CONFIRMED: BEATON IN CHARGE

JOHN BEATON has been confirmed as the referee for Celtic’s Premiership visit to Dens Park to face Dundee on Sunday.

The match official has been at the centre of a few controversies concerning the champions already this season.

Beaton awarded an extremely soft penalty-kick to Philippe Clement’s side in the 3-3 draw at Ibrox earlier this month.

He was in charge of VAR in Brendan Rodgers’ team’s 2-0 loss against Hearts at Tynecastle at the start of March when the Hoops had Yang Hyun-jun red-carded in the 14th minute and the hosts were gifted a phantom spot-kick just before the interval.

Whistler Don Robertson had been instructed to review both incidents before making the game-changing decisions.

And Beaton was the man in the middle when he dismissed Joe Hart in the first-half of the Hoops’ 3-0 win over Livingston in West Lothian in September.

It remains the only red card in a career that spans over two decades for the former England international netminder. Images later showed the decision should have been reversed.

Andrew Dallas will be on VAR duty for the match on Tayside while Peter Stuart will be the fourth official.
