CELTIC continue to sit top of the Premiership tree, but manager Brendan Rodgers has certainly had his moments of difficulty following his return to Parkhead as Ange Postecoglou’s replacement, and there is every expectation that we will do a little bit of additional business when the January transfer window opens to further improve our already excellent chances of lifting the title once again.
As rumour mill speculation hots up, it is being claimed that we could well be preparing a potential record breaking New Year move for current Aberdeen star Bojan Miovski. For fans who likes a flutter, this transfer is potential one to watch when it comes to whatever strengthening the club may do.
Miovski is this season’s current third favourite to be the Premiership’s top scorer and has scored 5 times in his 14 appearances so far. Miovski’s record so far could make him a great asset in boosting Celtic’s current goal difference of an already impressive 32.
As for fans will know, many rumours can easily be discounted, but Rodgers has been actively watching the 24 year old North Macedonian international striker this season, with it claimed that we have had a scout in attendance for every domestic game he has played so far. It also makes sense from a depth and options perspective, as we may lose the services of Japanese duo Kyogo Furuhashi and Daizen Maeda, plus South Korean international Oh Hyeon-gyu for a period in the very near future given the upcoming Asian Cup which runs for a month over January and February.
However, Aberdeen are not believed to be overly open to doing a deal, so if we want to effectively force a move through next month, it is suggested that it will now take a new record fee between two Scottish clubs if he is to leave Pittodrie in the future.
That means that given Aberdeen value the attacker far in excess of the £4.4 million fee that we paid Hibernian for Scott Brown back in 2007, we will probably have to look to break that by some margin here, as there will be a premium to pay in order for them to agree to lose him in January, as it seems they would be far more amenable to doing a deal next summer.
Naturally, they accept with him showing such good form in the Scottish top flight that there are definitely going to be interested parties and his chances of moving on are quite high, but with 11 goals in 24 appearances so far in the 2023/24 campaign, it is entirely understandable as to why they would not want to lose him during a month where it is known to be notoriously difficult to replace any poached top performers.
In his debut season in Scotland he also scored 18 times, and is well on target to beat that tally in his second year.
Aberdeen have already laid their stall out, with chief executive Alan Burrows on record saying “We are under no pressure to sell. If anybody wants to take our best assets away from us, particularly ones on long contracts, we are going to be very difficult to deal with.”
We will have to see how serious Celtic’s interest proves to be.
