de Boer reads script on predictable Celtic

1017

It’s probably easier to start with what went right last night, than what went wrong.  Efe Ambrose was the epitome of composure, trying to retain possession whenever possible, his transformation since Juventus has been remarkable.  van Dijk, Lustig and Izaguirre each did well.  Fraser Forster had a few saves to make, but this was one Champions League game he didn’t need to pull off a wonder-save.  He was totally exposed for the goal but otherwise Ajax didn’t really stress the Celtic goalkeeper, a clue, perhaps, to the solid performance of those immediately in front of him.

Our top two Champions League performers, Georgios Samaras and Kris Commons, both put in their least effective game at this level.  Samaras’ normally-reliable touch and ability to hold the ball deserted him, while Kris looked like a guy returning from injury. Slowly.

The minutia of these games are analysed by each team and after last month’s game, Frank de Boer clearly identified that Georgios was the major cog in Celtic’s machine. The striker was triangulated by opponents each time the ball came near him.

Neil Lennon was left with few choices in the middle of the park.  Mulgrew and Kayal would not have been his first choice partnership, given a free hand, but the only practical change there would have been to introduce Joe Ledley.  It’s far from clear what difference this would have made.

Celtic persisted in playing down the left long after it was evident this strategy was unproductive. Late in the first half one wag text me to say, “Time to bring Forrest on”, which told the whole story. Anthony Stokes was adrift, largely unconnected to the ankle clipping going on behind him. In short, our play was predictable and correctly predicted by do Boer. We didn’t have a Plan B, which even the best of teams need to avoid defeat occasionally in the Champions League.

BT – I tried posting you a link to ‘He’s More Than A Hero To Me’ by Billy No’well but it seems either links are no longer allowed on the blog or I’ve been restricted from posting links.

  2. Agree with who ever you like BLANTYRE no skin of my back son, but? To get back to the name calling thingie, so if I post that I thought James Forrest bottled it against Ajax on Wed.night I am breaking a rule in here? Do you honestly know how silly that sounds? A mean c’mon, is that your best shot? At this discussion?

  4. As a number of us continue to reside in the country of our birth the purchase of and perusal of the MSM products is sometimes the only way to stay abreast of current events affecting us.

Very rarely will I read a sports section of The Record The Sun or Herald and very rarely are they purchased however on occasions they are only form of entertainment on a long bus journey travelling away to watch Celtic and are purchased by numerous Celtic fans.

For those of you that live and exist in a Celtic Internet media bubble where do you get the rest of your news from and where do you read press releases interviews and players comments after a game because I have yet to see any blogger being given press accreditation in the media suite at Celtic Park

Ps Numerous copies of Record Sun Evening Times and Herald available free gratis in lounges at Celtic Park on match days take it that’s more proof of the board selling us down the river

He is all sorts of talent who loves to make fun of the MSM and Zombies.

He has upset a few of them, so it’s probably best he remains a bit of a mystery.

Very approachable, down to earth and likeable guy. Speak to him at the CSC this Friday.

Just my opinion. You’re not debating points of interest though you’re debating personalities. I suspect that’s why others have chosen to comment.

  15. Morrissey the 23rd Supporting Resolution 12 with a YES vote on

That last post should have been strike-through too. Hmm.

  16. At the start of this, I wasn’t there, so why make a comment well its fans like me who in the past 20 years have built celtics good name throughout Europe.

From the videos i have watched, It was clear that the council of Amsterdam did not want more than 8,000 drunken football fans without tickets in their city, the square was all blocked off, shops were boarded up and the police were ready for a fight.

Where is the fun in drinking outside in this environment?

Showing a message from a disappointed (but also making sure his glass windows aren’t smashed) bar owner who had just seen his over priced and watered down alcohol idea to make £££’ in a day ruined, is not a true reflection of everyone wanting us in Amsterdam.

We left the place in a mess, it was looking like a dump, bags and boxes of beer lay everywhere, smashed bottles, just left all around the square.

In the past the songs sung in city squares around Europe, Milan, Paris, Lyon, Barca, Hamburg, were all ballads, although in a different language the tone and feeling in the songs means locals still recognised them as folk songs and are unthreatened by them.

COYBG with the pointing and jumping up and down (the video i seen a few hundred people jumping up and down some a bit worse for wear) could be seen as aggressive to people going about their normal business. I think its awesome in a stadium, not on a street.

Its was easy to get to, but if you don’t have the spending money to buy the very expensive beers in the bars, or you don’t have a ticket for the game, why are you there?

If its to experience the city, then why are you cracking open your first beer at 8am and standing singing in a square.

We also didn’t have a group of fans linked with ‘ultra’ groups though out Europe with a skull as a badge, which is everywhere flags, clothes stickers! Or on Youtube stealing other fans banners.

Please note i think the GB experience is amazing in the stadium. The stuff that seems to surround them, not so.

We were treated illegally by the police. This must be dealt with.

But what did we look like from an outsider looking in?

  17. Falkirkbhoy

“But what did we look like from an outsider looking in?”

Well seen you werent there-I was-I saw no boarded up shops as we walked through the various areas of the city.I saw Celtic fans of all ages, male and female, families enjoying themselves[some more boisterous than othersbut nothing threatening] in one of europe major cities.

We looked like a group of fans of all ages visiting their city-not all drinking-well behaved-friendly and simply looking forward to a game of football enjoying an away trip-what do you think we looked like?

  18. checking the UEFA club rankings this morning and came across a very important question? regarding the DERRY CITY /DERRY CITY FC debate both are still on the current UEFA listing for this year taking into account the new DERRY CITY FC was granted a UEFA licence in 2010. jump forward a year 2014 both are still on the list, forward to 2015 and DERRY CITY no longer appear is this the old club/new club license taking affect and UEFA no longer state that DERRY CITY are deid.

Now here comes the good bit, same again GLASGOW RANGERS are on the current UEFA list, they died in 2012 fast forward to UEFA club rankings 2017 and they are gone and it is not that they are so far down the list it is to embarrassing for them to be there, because the previous years rankings 2016 they where the same as DUNDEE UTD. Debate?

    Morning,

Not been on for a few weeks, for various reasons, but it does help to pay the bill.

Ive been on record on here as being a supporter of the Celtic board on most issues, and while its always healthy to ask questions, its also not so good to see the constant criticism of, mainly Peter Lawell.

Id like to say also, when someone voices an opinion that others dont agree with, name calling ect is so childish,

Oh and lest I forget, I agree with you Tony

Off to the shops .
