Fatal assumptions

88

Celtic return to action at Easter Road tomorrow in a game it would be fatal to make any assumptions about.  With two away games ahead, our nine-point advantage could be reduced to three, by some refereeing errors or substandard performances.

Going by what we saw on Christmas Eve, the latter sounds unlikely.  That was our best performance in months, however, Hibs will have a gameplan that involves exploiting the unaccustomed right back, Reo Hatate, should he continue in the role.

There is a potential upside to the week, win twice and we will be at least 12 points clear at the top of the table.  For now, we cannot consider that, all that matters is Easter Road.

I hope you had a happy and fulfilling Christmas.  For those of you who work most of the year, I hope you managed some time off (I did).  God bless each of you who had to work over the period –thanks from the rest of us for keeping the world spinning.

  1. Watching Arsenal v West Ham last night.I noticed the weight loss our Bhoy Kieren Tierney looked , especially his face cheekbones.he didn’t look healthy, did anyone on here watching the game notice.

  2. Could be a big turnover come the end of January/summer in midfield:

    9 players for 3 slots.

4 to be punted – Abildgard, McCarthy, Robertson & Guchi.

1 at the moment to be added. 2 for each slot – McGregor, Hatate, O’Riley, Mooy, Turnbull & Iwata.

I’d expect another (Tom Rogic with puff such as Gloukh) with a possible further churn in the summer (Turnbull & O’Riley favouries to go).

    We never stop csc

Can’t say I get too fussed about “the gap” on a week-to-week basis. It’s something that will always go up and down over the course of a season and as it depends on what the team below you is doing you don’t have any control over that (other than in 10% of the games they play).

I’m just looking at our own output and I’d say 51 points out of 54 is pretty darned impressive, regardless of whether the next placed team is 3, 9 or 15 points behind.

Right up there with our fantastic 03-04 and 16-17 seasons.

  4. Statistically as have the hardest away fixture for Celtic ……

Then we go to the home of our nearest rivals where we seem to win more often.

2 wins would make me very happy.

A win and a draw from either and I would be fine also.

2 draws and so 2 points would not be a disaster but would make new year less fun.

A win and a defeat and so 3 points would be no fun

A defeat and then a win would be a laugh but would spoil the new year a bit for sure.

2 defeats would set us back for sure.

2 wins is my prediction despite VAR and Beaton.

    Spot on Re the consistency.

That said only 1 trip to Ibrox since last October. So not really been tested much v the main contender.

  6. Celtic have agreed to terminate the loan of Danish midfielder Oliver Abildgaard.

Several media outlets are reporting a deal has been struck with Rubin Kazan to end Abildgaard’s loan after just 156 minutes of football.

  7. My friends in Celtic,

Maybe its time to be positive and contemplate where we are as we see out 2022.

    Top of the league.

Best goal difference by a country mile.

    Sold out games.

Great squad which we will strengthen.

    Great manager who gets Celtic.

Emphasis on playing football the Glasgow Celtic way.

    Unbeated at home in 2022.

Only team undefeated with domestic VAR.

    Hail hail, the journey continues.

  8. God bless each of you who had to work over the period –thanks from the rest of us for keeping the world spinning.

Many thanks, sometimes we feel under appreciated but it’s what I choose to d

Glad you had a well deserved break and you and yours had a good one

Hope all had a great festive time, you can get to a place in life where you can just delight in your family enjoying the festives which mine did

Think if we drop any points over the next two games Ange and the bhoys will see it as points lost and quite rightly so…

    Hail Hail

This “Let them eat cake” moment has barely raised a murmur.

Indicative perhaps of how inured we’ve all become to the behaviour of this shower.

Apparently he was briefed robustly beforehand

“don’t ask anything on camera about struggling for food or shelter. Talk about something else always”.

And this is what he came up with.

  10. £45m for potential from Dutch runners up. No need to prove yourself at CL level.

    Crazy stuff.

Patronising and embarrassing for both. Cringe. But maybe a bit better than Boris.

    Agree.

Probably I am always wary of a momentum swing.

VAR is the great unknown. Nothing yet showing me it won’t really hinder us.

Hopefully we can catch up on Friday 6th January ?

Im feeling slightly dodgy at the moment, so i wont make it to the Howgait Tomorrow, so i will watch the Celts in ma hoose.

    HH Mate.

  15. For my sins, I watched Hibs play the huns a week ago. Forgive me P67 but there is at least one assumption we can make against Hibs.

It is this, they will attack us. They have no option but to attack us because based on Ibrox, they can’t defend to save their lives. Even were they to park the bus, they’re so dire at the back that it would make little difference.

If we have our shooting boots on we win comfortably tomorrow night.

  16. Happy Christmas…..to this Dear Green Place………….

  18. A Catholic firearms officer has won almost £44,000 in a religious harassment case after ‘f*** the Pope’ was written on his work coffee mug. Police Sergeant Paul McCue discovered the message had been graffitied on the underside of his Celtic Football Club mug and was so upset he had to go home from work.

The officer – part of a unit dedicated to protecting nuclear sites – had previously been ‘harassed’ by colleagues writing comments about loyalist paramilitary group the Ulster Defence Association, an employment tribunal heard. The hearing was told there was a history of ‘religious tensions’ within the Civil Nuclear Constabulary unit where Sgt McCue worked, with the force having to hold investigations and training sessions following allegations of sectarianism.
