Hatate, expectations and craft

145

The weight of expectation around Reo Hatate is substantial.  Our midfield fulcrum (or former fulcrum) has started only four league games this season and made another four appearances from the bench.

He returned to action yesterday, when he came through 45 minutes against St Mirren, the same side he made his last appearance for Celtic against, on 2 January.  Normal footballers need a lot of gametime before contemplating an appearance at Ibrox two weeks on Sunday.  Reo is not normal, however.

His game is not based on industry, he is all about vision and touch.  His mind operates at a speed none of his domestic contemporaries can match, comparisons to Lubomir Moravcik are valid.

Alan Thompson is one of my favourite Celtic all time midfielders.  When he played, I wrote on these pages that he was the most influential Celtic midfielder since the Lisbon Lions.

He played in a midfield with Lubo, so you can imagine the feedback I got, but love Lubo as we did, Alan was more influential.  He was hard as nails, a prodigious worker, as well as a scorer and creator of several of the most important Celtic goals of the 21st century.

For around three weeks after returning from injury, Alan was a passenger.  Fans got on his back, he once memorably cupped his ear after scoring.  When short of full fitness, his systems just didn’t work.

Question is, do Reo’s different attributes allow him control the Ibrox turf the way he has previously done so, even short of match fitness?  I’m not convinced.  Proceed with caution.

I also have Lenovo with Realtek mic and speakers. Try going to System/sound and look at Sound Devices and check that your speakers are recognised and add a device if necessary. It should guide you to any installation

Also, I had to give various apps like MS Teams, GoToMeeting permission to access the inbuilt and external speakers

Worth noting Brendan wasn’t exactly desperate to play Reo at the start of the season.

4 starts were not down to injury alone

    —–

Agreed, and the general consensus was he wasn’t playing well when he did play. Whether that was down to injury or not adapting to the Rodgers way of playing we’ll find out.

    D66,

Good on you on the weight loss. That’s impressive in that time.

Reminds me of a couple of girls I overheard at work, a work where magic diet pills seemed to be all the rage.

One girl mentioned how another girl in the work had lost a load of weight “and all she did was exercise and eat healthily,” like this was such an unexpected way to lose weight. 😅

My last op, the check was about a week to 10 days before the op.

I think they need to do it fairly promptly so that nothing changes much between the check and procedure.

  5. Good Morning Fholks…

Thanks for the replies to my comment re:VAR yesterday morning, apologies for the delay getting back…

    DAVID66 @ 9:49 AM,

Chairbhoy – Thanks, its just confirming what we already all know.

I really do hope our lawyers remit is take no prisoners at the upcoming hearing.

But alas I fear there will be a deal to be done regarding keeping quiet and letting Brendan in dugout for the Ipox game.

    D :)

Yes, there is a very odd situation now with the SFA VAR where they seem to think a fishing expedition to find a reason to alter the major events in a game is somehow legitimate.

But there does always seem to he horse trading in these situations, Crawford Allan’s head and a slapped wrist for BR (suspended touch line ban!?) might already be agreed.

    EMERALDBEE \O/ A DOUBLE NINER!! @ 9:51 AM,

“CHAIRBHOY, thanks for that clear summary of VAR and how it is SUPPOSED (my capitals 😊) to be used. There are so many discussion points that arise from that summary, but the “clear and obvious error” bit has done my nut in from the start – how can a toe, a head or even a nose being in front of an imaginary line cause a player to be deemed offside. Such a use of VAR technology undermines the principals of use right there.

Then of course there are the rules of intervention, which you summarised utterly clearly and which (also utterly) clearly have not been applied to Celtic.

I watched, along with millions of others, the introduction of VAR use in the Russia World Cup and even then started to feel concerned about the level of intervention. Fast forward to Scotland 2022 and I was, from the start, absolutely against it, suspecting (knowing?) that it would be weaponised against us. The absolute proof of that was seen at Tynecastle a couple of weeks ago.

In your link to the Motherwell FC statement there was a conclusion at the end which stated the vast majority of Motherwell fans would probably like to see VAR ditched. Include me in there.

Motherwell also made reference to the expensive costs to their club in funding VAR – various references have been made to these costs being paid by clubs on a sliding scale, with our club at the top of the table paying the most for it. I don’t know what level/time limit of ‘contractual’ obligation is involved, but with such unrest among football fans across the country (even the Hun supporters feel upset at times – ha ha ha???) would it not be within our power to threaten to withdraw our financial contribution towards VAR unless the principals of use, outlined so clearly in your post, were applied clearly and rigourously?

Good stuff all round CHAIRBHOY, thanks.

    Ave Ave

Totally agree, VAR in Scotland has just brought another dimension to the referee fraternities’ ability to manipulate games.

Alastair Johnson getting his goal chalked off against St Johnstone, for a random misplaced toe much earlier in the play, being a case in point.

As stated earlier, my hope is it gives them enough rope to hang themselves, there is a technology footprint video and audio* accounts of the incidents that exposes their “decision making”.

Like you say Celtic are the largest contributor to VAR and if other Clubs like Motherwell see it as a waste of money, then pressure can be brought to bear on the SFA.

It will be embarrassing for them to loise VAR as their officials could not stick to IFAB rules.

*If someone remembers to press the red record button!??

    —————

    Excellent stuff David.

What you eat and drink should determine if you lose or gain fat (which is what you’ve implemented) and exercise should be a bonus activity that gets you energised and feeling great.

If your diet is rubbish, all the exercise is the world won’t make loads of difference.

Sounds like you’re doing great. Nice one bud!

  9. For anyone interested in losing body fat, they should do these three things in this order:

    1. Cut down alcohol (3/4 of CQNers have already decided it’s not for them! 😂)

    2. Cut down sugar

    3. Cut down refined carbohydrates (which are any carbohydrates that are man made like cereals, pasta, bread etc)

Eat more real, slow-release carbs, which are found in oats, grains (no, whisky doesn’t count!) and starchy vegetables like potatoes, sweet potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, parsnips, carrots and so on.

If you’re doing all of the above and it’s not working as well as you’d like, you will need to look at your portion sizes and amount of calories you consume on a daily/weekly basis. As your body fat will increase if you are consuming more calories than you use in a daily/weekly basis.

You should also write down everything you eat and drink across one week to review it and see where it could improve.

The only way your body can store any excess calories and save them for a rainy day (as we still function in survival mode), is to convert them to fat. So, fat is just energy waiting to be used. 😃👍

Do not be scared of full fat products either. Fat in products like milk, cheese, yogurt etc is completely natural. The biggest con in fitness/gyms is advising people their diet should contain 55%-65% of carbohydrates. If you are not using these carbs up in your day to day activities, guess what? They get converted to and stored as fat! At least the fat you eat, gets used for loads of bodily functions before any left is stored. Carbs are for energy only!

For guidance, I met with the consultant in mid December, with the op done in the first week of February 2020, just in time for the 1st lockdown 6 weeks later.

Although it didn’t apply to me, I think that you are advised to avoid flying after a knee op, to avoid the possibility of blood clots forming in the legs.

I would advise you to ask the doc about this at the pre-op…

I was at the game and like many have no idea behind VAR decisions, they seem to avoid showing the lines on the stadium screens.

Did the telly clarify who was offside, big Idah or JF?

  13. MELVIN UDALL @ 10:00 AM,

    Some very sound advice… points 1,2 &3 a must fholks…

Just before Covid 19, my thoughts were getting my body ready for “old age” was the way to go (very late fifties).

Now, my BMI was fine, 6ft 2 in 13st 8lbs, but I decided getting rid of the visceral fat and replace it with muscle.

Went on a Keto diet, lost half a stone the first week, half a stone the second week and decided to fire in with phase two…

Keeping on Keto and putting on muscle weight isn’t easy, I also learned about Sacropenia.

Covid lock down kicked in also.. so continued to lose weight:((

So four years later and phase two has been very very tuff, but have no regrets about loosing the visceral fat, that things an energy, libido and ultimately a person killer.

So still working on it!! got a new bike this month, phase two complete and my (old) beach body ready by June, though thought that in 2020:)))

    Hail Hail

  14. MAJESTIC HARTSON and PRESTONPANS BHOYS,

Watching the game on CelticTV it took me a few times of rewinding to even see where the incident had occurred.

Of course that camera was above the half way line.

My thoughts were the linesman flags for an off side by Alastair, then the VAR forensic team start and go into the minutiae of previous moves looking for an excuse to chalk the goal off.

That’s not what VAR was supposed to be about.

Even if it’s used like that, we know in Scotland, if it’s R2ngers the goal stands.

    Hail Hail

  16. “…I think that you are advised to avoid flying after a knee op…”

Oops…I should have qualified that point. I think the advice is for a set period (3 months?) after the op and not forever 🙂.

I had a flight around 6 months after the op with no problems.
