Hector on the ball at Ibrox

547

It is scarcely credible that directors of newco Rangers have failed to maintain National Insurance (and, I presume, PAYE) obligations to HMRC.  The arrival of a seven day winding-up notice from HRMC last week brings serious consequences for the listed company, who have now required three short-term loans for over the last two months.

This payment is due on the same date every month, it will not be subject to dispute and failure to maintain payments brings the club into dispute with the SPFL, who six weeks ago deducted fellow Championship club, Livingston, five points and fined them £10k, for non-compliance of the league’s tax and reporting rules, which Neil Doncaster said were “an integral part of maintaining a fair league competition”.

The club already have an outstanding charge from the SFA over their failure to stick to a written agreement over the shareholding of Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley.  A five point penalty would bring them within three points of fifth-placed Falkirk, who are outside the play-off spots but have won six of their last seven games, pay their bills and will not be subject to a player fire-sale this month.

While newco are clearly short of cash their outlook is not as bleak as it may appear.  They have assets they should be able to sell quickly in order to raise cash, specifically players, Murray Park and Ibrox.  Rangers went into administration as their liabilities were considerably higher than the value of liquid assets, this is not the case with newco, whose liquid assets will be worth considerably more than immediate liabilities.

In short, an administrator will be able to sell players, Murray Park, Ibrox, or all three, and pay all creditors, so there is no reason the directors should not do so themselves.

There are a couple of observations worth noting:

I’ve never known a company to get to the stage of receiving a 7 day winding-up notice from HMRC which didn’t have many more stressed creditors.

National Insurance and PAYE for wages pad up to 30 November are due at HMRC on Wednesday 7 January.  It’s unclear if the £500k loan from Sandy Easdale is sufficient to cover this payment.

Lots likely to happen over the coming weeks but keen an eye on the financial fundamentals: it will take tens of millions of pounds to keep this club afloat over the next few years, even on a very limited football budget.

No one has explained a scenario under which this club is viable. This story only ends one way.

Nada Bing – John McGinn! I’m at a loss.

Johansen, Wakaso, Tonev, Mulgrew, Forrest, Commons. All better on the left than McGinn.

Stuart Armstrong is the only Spl player who ‘maybe’ would get a start for us.

I’m fine with signing some Scots but let’s accept they would be projects and squad players.

    ——

Agree that Armstrong has looked excellent. Though he’s also looked invisible (hard to do I’ll grant you!) in some big games.

As for McGinn. I’m not being cheeky or going all James Sanderson on you (cos I don’t know if your moniker is historical or currently geographical) but were you at the most recent st mirren match at Celtic park? McGinn had Mathews on toast 10 rows in front of me and matched Broonie tackle for tackle all game (and not for the first time).

I rate the kid. A lot.

And no, I’m not his Da!!!!!

This goes back to Dougie Dougie type schoolboy lies and has echoes of debts for unpaid tax bills and European licences being granted!

bawsman-i think John McGinn is a better left sided midfielder than we currently have.HH But i wouldn’t pay more than a million for any SPFL player ,to be honest.

    ============================

Paul MacGowan (now at Dundee) was better than McGinn.

To others, Scott Allan thought he was good enough to start showboating against the huns, he wisnae, kept making an erse of it.

I believe Alloa, who have played the huns 3 times this year – and not lost – are 8/1 to win against them AT HOME next fixture.

  8. Guidetti

I hope he proves me wrong because he will start tonight,

I would start him on the bench and start Leigh up there with instructions to shoot on site.

I don’t think Guidetti has his heart set on playing for us.

  9. See these 3 Aberdeen players (Reynolds, Jack & McGinn, I believe) what are better than our dross!

Are they the same Reynolds, Jack and McGinn that lost to a Celtic in early September when we were low in confidence when Maribor knocked us out of the CL and we drew with Dundee?

Are they the same trio who lost at home to a 10 man Celtic with Zaluska in goal in early November?

Did they all play for Aberdeen last year when they finished behind Motherwell?

  10. Mullet and co 2 yes indeed but the thing is no one in the media will ask the question why it’s ok and they will just ignore the rest of us. That’s how it works.

Have any of you had a response to to doncasters statement from celtic or the SPFL?

    Nah didn’t think so…….

  11. Jamesgang.

    I’m not McGinns day either.

He is a beacon in a very poor team. My nephew and his Dad are St Mirren season ticket holders, they rate him highly.

As I’ve already posted. Rather than playing him wide, I think he would do a job beside Broonie behind the three.

  12. Joe Filippis Haircut on

themaestro72. Big John hasnt played much football in the last 2 years due to illness. He started really well for us but has visibly tired recently when he gets his fitness level back to where it should be he will score plenty of goals for us. H.H.

  13. Jamesgang – the moniker is fae the old Stone Roses b-side!

Saw the game and the boy played well, as did McLean.

I was never a good player but kicked a baw for a few years. Considered myself a ‘flair’ player.

    Played Sunday’s and did well.

Got signed Junior and after a few training sessions I realised these boys could play a bit.

The result? Come match days I passed the buck rather than try anything fancy.

I think a few boys we sign from Spl clubs realise quickly they aren’t as technically good as they thought they were when the sign and train with us.

You play for St Mirren against us and take a chance and Meg Broonie. See when you sign for us and the pressure is on no to give easy possession away etc? very different.

Big Rogic gave an interview describing how at training players did things that were breathtaking.

You would find a RyanJack or John McGinn would see themselves very differently after a few sessions with us.

We had an exceptionally good season in the league last year – the likliehood is it would have been worse this season anyway

I don’t agree we saw much in the way of entertainment last season

The big word here is transition – change is never easy things generally get worse before they get better

  16. In matters of whether tax is overdue and by when. You don’t do it over the phone, not without a fax copy of the HMRC letter, it’s date, what it says and what that means in rule terms.

If the sum has been paid but was not reported under the rules then it’s some punishment like a fine for not reporting.

Not seeing the documentation that proves what took place is a recognised trick for avoiding the rules by RFC, SFA and the SPFL.

It is a trick made easier to perform when proof of what is said verbally is not asked for when the circumstances demand it has to be provided or even if asked for it but it’s witheld.

RFC as was have previous in the respect of not providing proof when required.

2005 when HMRC asked if De Boer and Flo had side letters.

2011 when completing UEFA Licence check forms in June/July aided and abetted by the SFA.

2012 when not providing evidence of illegal ebts to Harper MacLeod for LNS.

The simple fact is that so desperate are the clubs not to lose TRFC to the game, no one is prepared to put the sick dog down and so they simply do not seek proof of what they might suspect for fear of what that proof will demand the authorities do.

The parachutist there was three of them, one the deid guy, one the burd that shot him deid and the other Cowley from the Professionals… He survived, obviously cause he was in the Professionals, mmmmmm but got killed in the Great Escape….”Have a good trip”……”Thank you”…..Doh.

The priest well he survived, kind of gets the Micks a slap on the back and in from the cold.

The SS guy, he was actually,Belgian, an SS recruit from the occupied country, he turned good and got shot helping Cowley escape….not the greatest of escapes. .!

Sevco get to much attention on here,We as Celtic Supportters should realy get serious about our own club ,were it has been heading over the last 4 or 5 yrs.Signing medicore players ,a board that will not back our young supporters, and letting the media away with murder for yrs.ex players putting the boot into the coaches .the top man Dermot Desmond never near the club.no we need good Celtic Supporters running our club.i heard a rumour that desmond and Eddie Jordan a man i have no issues with him, are wanting to offload there shares,so maybe there is a supporters with deep pockets ,and buy these shares, so never mind talking about sevco, start putting pressure on them that run our club.Change or Shut the Door behind you.

I must admit I am panicking a little

I am not too confident about how we are playing – we are not dominating and I think both Aberdeen and DU are aware that we are weak and are both having a go – I also think referees will help them along the way simply to put pressure on us/Ronny

As for RD I am not convinced but I buy into giving him time

Priority for me is to win the league – I will accept not winning cups if that’s the cost of giving RD time BUT win the league – we must win at all cost
