  1. Good morning all from a baltic, snow dusted Garngad.

I see that Clunk’s was on abusing posters. Again.

An absolute disgrace and I fear beyond help.

    God help his family .

    D. :)

  2. I havent read back yet….

Not the best performance from Celtic, but obviously a welcome 3 Points.

I was VERY disappointed in NICOLAS KUHN…He looked like w wee Bhoy lost on the wing. Maybe I missed it, but I didnt see him once beat a defender and get to the By Line. Are wingers not supposed to do that ?

He looked quite timid and nervous.

As for ADAM IDAH….Well done young man, you had a good game, and it was GREAT to finally see a Celtic player who can hit a Penalty with confidence.

Daizen Maeda does my nut in at times I dont doubt his work rate, but he really needs to work on his first touch and his crossing…..like a few others, I could mention at times.

JOE HART dealt well with anything that was thrown at him, and he was maybe a wee bit unlucky not to save the Hibs Goal. It was a good strike by the Hibs lad.

Overall, it was sense of relief more than anything when Big ADAM slotted that Winning Penalty away.

I have the horrible feeling that we will have many more Days/Nights like last night in the following months…UNLESS wee KYOGO gets good support and is PAIRED upfront with Adam Idah ?

win ugly and win the league , but get it sorted asap.

    ≈===================

Winning ugly gives the currants a head start so we need to rethink our signing policy.

Get the Ghirls team to have final say, can’t be any worse than out January window.

Hard watch last night, took me back to early 60’s before Big Jock

  4. We got out of jail bigtime last night.

Imagine this team in the Champions Leaugue ?

Because that is how we should be lining out, with a panel looking to qualify from the group stages. I don’t see anything near that at the moment.

  5. Such a difficult watch last night – so many poor performances and poor decision making it is hard to get you head around it. Clearly we take the points but that was the great escape – I can’t remember the last time we played so poorly and won. Our recent bad performances have mainly been lots of possession but little creativity and few missed chances but last was that and more cause of Hibs had taken their chances we could have lost 3 or 4 goals – that is a new low.

It is clear the board lack ambition and plan for cash in the bank not on the field which for a sports club is a bizarre concept. The recruitment team and methodology is atrocious this season and last. We lost first team starters in the last 12/18 months and not one replacement is of similar quality or experience. They all follow the same formula – young-ish, inexperienced, and show some potential – imagine a team full of Mikey Johnstones? They are not starters, they do not replace like for like and they most certainly don’t improve the 1st eleven. I’m not saying they is not room for the odd MoR or Yang type project but you cannot fill a squad and a transfer window with them and you cannot these young players to do the job of men. Our spend this season was not small but it was in light of the finance we have available but even so lots it has been wasted on bang average players who have been badly scouted and will never contribute much and will not recover the investment made. Who knows who does our scouting but it is currently shockingly bad – not just in what we bring in but in what we miss. Ferguson, Doig, Miovski all on our doorstep, all young -ish, all experienced in our league, all get able at a reasonable cost and reasonable wages and if all goes well strong sell on potential if that’s what the model requires but we get Kwon, Holm, Bernabei, Yang, Oh………seriously? Short term I know but what I’ve seen from Knun so far, especially last night, the guy Armstrong from Kilmarnock would be a better bet. Absolutely fecking shocking and that’s just the start of it – a professional hardworking recruitment team would have data on hundreds of players near and far and know who was end of contract etc. One or two that maybe would be out of our budget if we had to pay a fee but hold on, last year of contract, reduced fee or a bosman next season? Come up here, experienced pros 25-28 yo win some bling, play in Europe, pay a bit extra as no transfer fee? But no we get the aforementioned. There is no balance and our fee and wage structure too rigid and has not moved in enough. We appear completely blinkered in this area of the business and can only move in very small parameters – this is managerially extremely poor.

I’m stuck with the manager? Just can’t get my head round it. There is simply no way BR coaches this team to play slow boring and ineffective football coach would do that it’s just inconceivable. I also don’t see a change in set up in most games – the fullbacks are still inverted when we play out. The difference IMHO is the speed at which we do it and the personnel specifically on the wings. For years we have played against teams that defend in numbers or defend very deep – the difference now is the “low block” is both. It compresses 10 opposing players and 7-8 of ours into a small area of the park probably about 12-15 yards deep from 18 yard line to approx 30 yards out and not as wide as the pitch – there is no room to move, there is little room to squeeze that pass through, movement is difficult as everyone is so close to each other. Trying to find that space or pass when literally faced with a wall in front is extremely difficult and you need very very skilled and intelligent players to be able to do it consistently – we don’t have that. Sure we face the same thing last season but I honestly think that opponents have got better at that system and there no doubt it became harder for us towards the last few months of the season but crucially we had Jota, Hatate and Mooy who were all better in those tight spaces than what we have now so go figure. When we do manage to get wide reasonably quickly one get the 1 on 1 as opposed to against two our current wingers are not good enough or brave enough to take on full backs and win more often that not – either that or they are coached not to take the risk of losing possession. Personally I think it is one of the first two that ultimately leads to the third option of just passing back. Jota faced guys up and took them on – he’s no longer there and his replacement doesn’t do that. Abada was better at running on to the pass in behind and never great at 1 on 1s as contrary to popular belief he is not quick of the mark but he has been out so long and frankly I think his head is gone or struggling for sharpness. Yang has a trick but needs to be braver and allowed to lose the duel from time to time and not get rollicked from the crowd or the coaches.

So how do we improve as an attacking threat? It’s far easier to be a destructive player than a creative one – closing down the space, getting in the tackle and the blocks and especially when the team in front of you is predictable so we need to change it at least vary how we attack and our wingers need to be told to go for the 1 on 1s no excuses no back passes – get a yard and whip it in or cut it back and do it quickly don’t give full back time to set, don’t take 4/5 touches, face him up quickly and drive at them, turn them getting facing their own goal or byline put them under pressure. The coaches need to bash this into them and the crowd need to understand that it’s not going to work every time but it’s the only way to break the block.

Clearly non of us are coaches but strikes me that our front 3 don’t move enough side to side dragging defenders with them or causing confusion as to who is picking up who. This creates gaps and channels for passes to be played or other to move into. Think of American Football – before the snap of each play the receivers are moving across the field from inside to out, from outside to in and from one side to the other and all time his opponent is running around trying match him up causing confusion in the defence – if you stand still or move back and forward you are easy to mark and make defenders lives easy – if you are constantly moving and he doesn’t know who is coming across him next then we are asking questions.

Last thing from the stupidly long post is shoot……..we most certainly don’t do that enough. Show the players a Harry Kane video- he scores loads because he shoots and shoots quickly. One touch first time he doesn’t mess around – get a sight and hit it.

Cmon Brendan get these bhoys moving and motivated……

Sorry for the boring rant but head full of broken bottles

  6. Majestic Hartson on

    Good post Moisey.

The thing about us just before the winter break that was giving me hope was I thought we were trying to get the ball forward faster and not letting teams get back and settle.

We don’t seem to be doing that any more. It’s slow and laboured.

  7. Tough watch last night where with 5 mins to go I was writing off our chances of the title.

Let’s hope that the pen award was a bit like the Jan Venegoor Header against the huns moment in 2008 which was a season changing moment for us.

What’s incredibly apparent is the lack of midfield functionality.

The 3 midfielders are too similar and last night they all disappeared leaving out back line totally vulnerable.

What we needed more than anything ( well maybe a LB was more required ) was someone who could sit in there and be that defensive enforcer protecting the back 4 and allowing our midfielders to play. I like Bernardo but the boy struggled with any type of tackling. Cal Mac and MOR where by there standards posted missing.

If we can somehow win this league can you believe we would be thanking Andrew Dallas for

    Doing his job fairly?

    Cmon the Hoops!!!!

  8. Tom McLaughlin on

Give Abada the transfer he wants in the summer. He’s not interested. A waste of a jersey.

  9. Lurch fancies his team to win everything, they aren’t better than us but are more physical, this more than anything is lacking in the team players need to be prepared to battle and by that I don’t mean stupid bookings just go into contacts and compete and disrupt, we don’t do that nearly enough.

  10. MOISEY17 on 8TH FEBRUARY 2024 8:09 AM

    Great post.

I would love to contradict much of it. But I can’t.

    HH.

  11. Lot’s of good points Moisey, it’s all about movement and communication, shooting ability and brave wingers with freedom to take on players in one to one situations..

One of the bugbears with me is the leaning back when shooting from distance, have they never been told that the ball can only go skywards when doing this. I know that modern coaching is very technical but some of the basics of football are so simple . My teacher{ex Celtic player] in the 1950’s who coached the school team used to hammer the slogan “head over the ball when shooting” , the Hibs boy had terrific technique for his goal .

I don’t like criticising individuals but I have really got to question our scouting system during the past year, the scatter gun approach isn’t working, and we’ve lost some good players and not replaced like for like.

The display last night was shockingly bad and unless we improve significantly, this season is going to be one of failure.

  12. Majestic Hartson

    From last night

If lots of players (maybe more than 2) are “off form” I’d suggest it’s not form that’s the issue.

    I think many things MH

Firstly is BR missing a good assistant since Harry Kewell left.Chris went to spurs so BR2 is well different from first time.

As sunday will show we have been inconsistent with selection either thro poor form or injury-Aj is out sunday.

GT may come back but we have not had the same Centre back partnership with ccv injured and Starfelt away to his girlfriend,Scales form has peaked and levelled out,he is still doin well,Nawrocki’s form is strugglin.

In midfield MoR and Calum are strugglin and with paulo there we are technically good but need a bit of dig in middle as we are getting pushed of the ball.

Up front kyogo would be served well if properly serviced, our wingers cant beat a man and get the ball over, imo he should always start, maybe now playing of idah.

Tactically at times we need a compass as our direction is back the way, retain possession at all costs.

We have plenty to be gettin on with our team look to tire ats 2nd halfs go on,like you it doesnt instil confidence but if we keep winning like last night i will take it.

Lots to be gettin on with.

  13. Liam Scales’ dominance at Easter Road

One player who was better than the Irish marksman was his international teammate Scales, who dominated at Easter Road and produced a complete performance.

The former Aberdeen loanee has established himself as a regular starter, with 23 league starts, and showcased his quality once again against Hibs on Wednesday night.

    Liam Scales

    Vs Hibernian (via Sofascore)

    Minutes played

    90

    Duels contested

    Ten

    Duels won

    Nine

    Clearances

    Four

    Blocks

    Two

As you can see in the table above, Scales was a rock at the back for Celtic as he won 90% of his duels, which included all three of his battles on the deck and six of his seven aerial contests.

He dominated the opposition at almost every opportunity to prevent them from causing more issues for Joe Hart between the sticks on the night, and could do little to stop Dylan Levitt’s superb strike from the edge of the box to make it 1-1 on the hour.

One crucial intervention came towards the end of the match as Hibs looked set to counter with pace down the right but Scales adjusted brilliantly to intercept and control the ball, which allowed the Hoops to build an attack of their own.

The Irish colossus was also composed in possession of the ball with a whopping 126 passes completed (88% success rate) from 157 touches of the ball.

Scales only gave the ball away 17 times from those 157 touches. Whereas, Idah lost possession nine times from his 21 touches at the top end of the pitch.

Overall, the central defender produced a complete performance with his reliability on the ball and in his exceptional defensive work, whereas his compatriot left a lot to be desired away from his crucial penalties, which is why the former Shamrock Rovers star was the best player on the park for the Hoops.

  14. Play badly ( which we did) and win (which we did) are TWO of the things that make Champions.

Can`t say I am particularly confident but 50/50 is not terrible,

PS This is when supporters can help. Constant negativity , fed by the MSSM and Sky pundits, is not the way to go.

  15. PS I meant winning while playing badly !!! The way I`ve written it looks like playing badly is a pre-requisite for would-be Champions !!

Just as well no one reads my posts :-)))

  16. DARWIN-JHB–CLOUD9-GRIFTER GALLOWAYS TOMMY

Brexit boat chasing racists like you have no say in what Celtic are,you are a Troll.

You stick out as you think a change of name covers your racism.Big empty words used but be it your love of Boris and boat chasing, penchant for CBC to be a topic, your sleekit, the only collective you have is namechanging, you have no ‘we’except for your duplicitous range of monikers

    your a troll.Andrena ffs.

  17. an tearmann

Thanks for the update on OldTim67.

I’ll phone the aul Infirmary sometime today and with a bit of luck will get to speak to him.

    Hail Hail

  18. Silver City 1888 on

Great to see Idah get his first Celtic goals. There was a time when I’d say “Aye, but it was only a penalty.” Sadly not these days.

  19. STEBHOY Watching the game last night one player who in my opinion had a good game that player was Bernabei ,I thought Bernardo was average he cant control the ball at times,he isn’t worth the 6million bein g quoted for him ,also our captain McGregor is suffering from to many games seeing him making to many bad passes,Holm should be in contention to replace him ,Welsh is to injury prone Scales takes forever on making a pass STEBHOY that’s just my opinion from watching the game last night.

  20. SILVER CITY 1888 on 8TH FEBRUARY 2024 10:11 AM

True ! Hopefully our new Bhoy means that has changed.

  21. Right. Time to go for my train to Glasgow for a family visit to Cafe Andaluz.

    Cheerio for now.

  22. hot smoked

Has had a couple of spells in hospital recently before Christmas and since, and as AT has pointed out he has been moved to a Community Hospital, which is the old Infirmary in Falkirk. So, well enough to be transferred, and with a view (was gonna say “fae the windae” there) to getting him back into his own place in due course.

  23. All huff and puff, nout to show for it. Obviously Kuhn is playing to instructions, always pass the ball back to midfield, stupid and not his fault.

Very few pass marks, joint MOM was Ralston and yes, Bernabei, thouhht he did very well.

Passses too to Bernardo, Scales and Welsh and pur new striker. Maeda loooked a bit jaded but gets a pass from me as does big Joe.

Hibs should have won the game by 3 or 4 goals, and bhoy, did we get away with one big time.

    KINGLuBO

  24. MOISEY17

Not boring, you said what we are all thinking. Afraid it’s Brendans system mainly at fault, wingers who obviously are told NOT, to take a man on one to one, but pass back, shambolic.

Huns are no great shakes, but are at the moment, better than us sadly, pains me, but stating the obvious .

    KINGLuBO

  25. onenightinlisbon on

Two positives from last night – 3 points and a confident penalty taker.

    The rest?

Performance the same yet again and Rodgers states “we must be better” after the game again.

This is only going in one direction unfortunately.

  26. Tom …,totally agree re Abada ….chancer who is not interested …get rid …he may actually be a Trojan horse and playing against us …hope he languishes in the lower tiers of Englandshire where he belongs ..and reflect on who actually made his name 😡
