How administrators can avoid redundancies short-term

1072

There have been many questions about the unusual circumstance in football of Rangers going into administration but not making any players redundant.  It is possible, and not totally uncommon, for directors of a company in administration to arbitrarily choose to provide funds from their own resources to pay any chosen creditor, including staff. In football, players’ contracts of employment need to be with the club, but the source of payment can come from anywhere.

In this instance, Rangers Group, the club’s holding company, or any other body or person, could be in sufficient funds to provide the administrators with enough money to not only pay players, but to continue operating in a relatively normal state.  Rangers’ administrators have already suggested Craig Whyte has guaranteed to make-good wages due to be paid this week, although it was not made clear which entity would be paying, or the source of such funds.

Administrators will only be forced into player redundancies if they do not have sufficient funds available to see them through to the timely conclusion of negotiations with creditors, or if they are unable to receive binding undertakings from another source that they will step forward to pay players next month.

Various sources over the weekend suggested HM Revenue and Customs were prepared to extend generous time to pay terms to Rangers.  This club is owned by Craig Whyte.  While we all know what a stand-up guy Craig is, how likely to you think HMRC are to believe he will stick to a plan stretching out years into the future?  It’s just not going to happen.

I hear a ‘We’ll take a few years to pay too’ campaign is set to trickle through the SPL if HMRC agree to this one.  Better using the tax man as a bank than using an actual bank.

I had a discussion along similar lines yesterday at a baptism where a couple of friends/workmates were talking about wanting M.Thatcher dead.

First of all, as a Christian, I do not wish death for anyone, be it Thatcher, Paisley etc.

Then I pointed out that I wasn’t that sad that she shut the mines in Scotland. They were breeding grounds for anti-Catholic sentiment. They were extensions of the orange lodges they all belonged to. We were detested in all forms and there was no such thing promotion for any RC’s. There were areas underground that were clearly marked as no go areas for RC’s!

From what I was then told, it was similar in the steelworks, but maybe not as bad as the mines.

My Catholic dad worked in the Scottish pits and rose through the ranks to be a manager.

God rest him, he told hundreds of stories (often multiple times!) but never one that reflected the points of your post.

He worked in Lanarkshire and Ayrshire pits till about 1965.

My wee (funny) story……a few years ago, new member of staff sitting chatting to me….like everyone else in the WORLD, got to know I was a Celtic Mhan within about 5 secs of meeting me …LOL……

Then he comes away with…”My dad used to tell us not to play with ‘taigs’, but I just ignored him” ……I have NO IDEA what he expected my reaction to be (was he expecting me to THANK HIM….!!)

Anyway, I stared at him for a few seconds, then let out the loudest laugh (guffaw) I have ever made…….(apart from last week’s Admin…..He He)………well, the look on his face was PRICELESS, as it gradually dawned on him what an erse he was……!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Liquidation is still very very likely, however if they should win the big tax case, content yourself with this and this is what I understand from their situation.

They still owe at least £9m to HMRC

They are overspending by £10m per year

They owe ticketus for 3/4 years season tickets

By my reckoning, they need to cut over £20m per year over the next 4 years to just survive, anyway you look at it, it’s gruel and stones for them and jelly and ice cream for us.

  9. …….all I said was that the union (shop steward) did nothing about the fact that eleven Catholics were culled(called) in one year.

The ASW as it was, was not particularly sectarian, to my knowledge; just infiltrated by Commies!

This was down to the fact that he was a craven coward and the Works Manager was a bitter hun by the name of Mc.Pherson.

    ‘why are they called huns?’

The truth is that no one knows.

It’s said they called us huns before we called them huns.

They then embraced the word and called themselves huns. Andy Cameron refers to himself (or at least used to call himself) a hun. You’ll have seen the Observer article I posted earlier where the journalist called himself a hun.

The campaign to have the word declared sectarian is someone playing the parity of esteem game.

    It’s a nonsense.

They are huns. The word isn’t illegal. COPFS guidance is that police shouldn’t be arresting people for using the word.

  17. They called us huns and we called them huns.

The difference is that they behaved like the original huns, thereby laying an undisputed claim to the title.

I did add the caveat that i do not know if this is factual. My own background is staunchly republican and i can categorically state that this subject is openly debated along with Sinn Fein’s current policies which some moderate Republicans acedemics do not agree with. I would never attempt to denigrate the memory of the hunger strikers that was not my intention nor having re read my post does it read as doing so; it only mentions that questions exist within the reublican community regarding one individuals role.

Likewise… all my family were miners, goin back to the famine

Anecdotally at least, in the latter half of the 19th century the coal and ironstone mines were riven with sectarianism – exacerbated with the downward pressure on wages of a starving immigrant population. Stories handed down in my family attest to this.

By my Grandfathers time however – 1920’s to 1960’s – his view was that sectarianism was rare in the pits, life was hard enough, and there was a mutual respect amongst the men because of this. I’ve no idea whether this was true across the country, but in his locale it was
