Huge decision ahead for Neil Lennon

833

When they dispensed with Unai Emeri last weekend, Spartak Moscow brought to an end an experiment to bring sophistication to their team.  New caretaker manager, Valeriy Karpin, was manager immediately before Emeri, was also the man who appointed Emeri and stood over him as general manager of the club since moving from the dugout in the summer.

Karpin relies more on his strong, authoritative, personality than tactical innovation, which is likely to mean we face a more disciplined team in Glasgow next week that we faced in Moscow – there will be no brothel at the back.

My main concern is that the Kilmarnock/St Johnstone/Inverness tactics of defending solidly and taking their chances when going forward is perfectly suited for Karpin’s Spartak.  Against Benfica and Barcelona at home, Neil Lennon played it tight and incredibly tight respectively, which proved to be excellent decisions.  He has a huge call to make against Spartak, playing an adventurous game could leave us exposed.

This result is not to be taken for granted.

CQN Annual – perfect Christmas present

It was some comfort to see Celtic back on form last night, especially down the flanks, which were crucial in Moscow and could prove to be so again next week.  Hopefully the knocks and strains which have hampered the squad in recent weeks are beginning to fade ahead of our Christmas Cup Final.

  9. Celtic manager Neil Lennon expects striker Lassad Nouioui to make a significant impact at the club this season.

The 27-year-old has been blighted by injuries since his arrival at Celtic Park at the end of August, but he has scored two goals in recent weeks in the victories at Aberdeen and over Hearts in midweek.

Lennon believes the Tunisia international has now reached full fitness and is confident he can progress on the pitch as well.

“We have been very impressed with Lassad, and he got 75 minutes on Wednesday, which is the longest he has played for us in any game since he arrived,” the Celtic boss said.

“People wanted us to throw him in early, but we have to be careful with him. In two of the games we did play him, he had to come off injured, and we lost him for two to three weeks each time.

“That’s not because of the physicality of the league here or anything like that, but because he did not have a pre-season.

“He was out of contract at Deportivo La Coruna and he did not get signed up with us until deadline day. The change in environment in football has probably caused all of that.

“He is a good finisher. I don’t know how prolific he is going to be, but he has a nice touch and can link the play up very well.”

  10. Celtic has become the latest leading club to embrace YouTube by launching its own official channel.

The Scottish Premier League (SPL) champion’s channel on the video-sharing website will include match highlights, classic games, behind -the-scenes footage at training as well as interviews and pre-match news. The channel had gained 2,391 subscribers by Thursday evening, with users viewing 23,435 video clips.

Steve Nuttall, senior director for YouTube Sport, said: “Over 100 of the leading clubs in Europe run YouTube channels and we’re delighted that Celtic are taking their rightful place amongst them. Leagues, federations and clubs now recognise that a YouTube presence is a great way to grow and engage with a global fan base.”

    Me too

I was up at Aberdeen a few weeks ago …he was excellent when he came on

I also thought he was very good on Wednesday

He is 100-1 to be top league scorer …if he gets a decent run those odds could prove very generous

I find the possibility he works with children thoroughly sickening. Even if he isn’t involved with kids Im sure his employers won’t be too pleased at such behaviour of one of their employees.

  16. John MacMidden of the Raging Supporters Association added: “It would leave a sour taste in the mouths of many supporters if the stadium/ sewage works is re-named The WongaHut but it will always be The BigotDome to Sevco fans.”

  17. Steinreignedsupreme on

The rebranding of Ibrox story is the latest lame attempt to revive the flagging share issue.

It will never happen. I note no one is asking Mike Ashley about his supposed interest.
