Inter trepidation, Packy, Tommy, Joe & Patricia

809

Inter have hit a bit of form recently but comments coming out of Milan indicate their visit to Celtic Park is viewed with some trepidation.  The stadium’s Champions League reputation remains fresh in the memory, even if the team has been transformed since the last major victory over a truly top team two years ago.

A number of those who will play for Celtic on Thursday will have only seen those great European nights on television.  Playing in front of 60,000 Celtic fans will be a new experience.  Transforming this support into an energising force is our job.  Inter’s first objective will be to frustrate and quieten the crowd.  My hunch is that this will be difficult.

We have the line-up confirmed for the CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner, which is at the Kerrydale Suite on Friday 13 March.  Topping the bill for the Q&A is Packy Bonnar, Jock Stein’s last signing, who made his debut on St Patrick’s Day 1979.

Packy’s Celtic and Ireland team-mate, Tommy Coyne, will also be taking part.  Tommy had an incredible career and speaks intelligently on football, and life in general.  We’re also delighted to have Joe Miller.  Joe played in the same Celtic team as Packy and Tommy.  Part of our historic Centenary Team, he also scored that unforgettable Scottish Cup Final winner.  More recently Joe formed the Association of Former Celtic Players.

To mark the 50th anniversary of Jock Stein’s first game as Celtic manager, which takes place that week, we also have Jock’s personal friend and biographer, Archie Macpherson will speak about the great man.  If you’ve ever needed inspiration…..

I’m also delighted to confirm we have Celtic’s First Lady of Song, Patricia Ferns, who is making the journey over from Ireland for our night.

Let me know if you still need a ticket, celticquicknews@gmail.com

It’s Charlie Nicholas who does the thinking bud, not me.

However, I have thought about this KDS thing and quite honestly , having thought about it , am in complete disagreement with you.

feel free to disagree, I was in that lounge as one of the poshies, I know the reality, and it was not only me. Economics bites, some relocated to other lounges when they couldn’t sell enough tickets to keep it open, others downsized their ticket

“Rest assured if Sevco go down the pan they will use the old club/company bollocks again.”

Why wouldn’t they? It’s worked before, eh?

Of course mate.Sky Sports in particular will fly the same club banner.

Outwith Celtic and indeed all Scottish football fans it’s been massively hidden.

    Rangers? Liquidated?

People haven’t a clue what you are talking about when you mention it.

During the posting today Micktt mentioned you picking up your coat in the yard after break and running back to class. I then couldn’t get the PE teacher in Kes out of my head. He wants to be Bobby Charlton playing against the kids and then goes on a “mazer” to score. An Image reaffirmed by your comment on taking g hockey after school.

I guess I shouldn’t have used the word poshies as this has annoyed you. For that I apologise.

You said some people relocated to other lounges and some downsized.

I think some may have given up.

I would also guess ( unscientifically I may add) that the lounge will be used more by those who didn’t pay corporate nowadays than those who did.

Are u saying that those who gave up or downsized are all back for a spot of corporate at the Inter Milan game ?

No part of any of the Rangers enterprises should weaken your love of Celtic.

Plenty of ex-players I have spoken to – legends – have a different view to most on here myself included.

Tell Bertie Auld he is wrong if you like.

These guys look at things differently from the supporters as their Celtic experience is different to ours. They were hungry for Rangers – they wanted the scalp.

Celtic careers could be defined by performances against Rangers. Big Yogi and Willie Wallace enjoyed scoring against them often. Others, for example Joe McBride were not so fortunate.

As ex-players they relate to the current Celts in certain ways and one is in the teams Ronny’s teams will play.

So if their opinion is different to ours it is because of perspective more than anything else. They all know Rangers died but want Celtic to beat whatever Rangers we are obliged to play.

Joe Miller is a fine Celt in my opinion.

I was not a great fan of Paddy as a player and when I heard him on the radio pick his best ever team he was in my opinion light on Celts. I am sure my opinion will change after hearing him speak at CQN 11.

To abuse CQN guests is just plain bad manners. And to let any version of Rangers get in the way of your own relationship with our club is just daft.

Celtic first – Celtic last – Celtic overall.

Oh and more prominent guests will be at CQN 11 – quite a gathering is planned. And can that girl sing!

    001

Ps..You should Try asking Bertie what he thought of a Player getting a Benefit Game on or near the Lisbon Anniversary..(Ear Plugs Recommended)..;-)

  10. Can I add a comment on the Kerrydale suite / bar

I think Celtic are stuck between a Rock and a hard place here

Do Celtic have control of the full stadium for European games – I know from questioning my own seat movements earlier in the rounds that the answer to this is No

A large section of the stadium is handed over to European sponsors

I actually suggested, rather than move the many fans such as myself for European games, that all those who are forced to move either be allocated into the posh seats with use of the kerrydale suite, or, move all the sponsors over there, and leave us in our own seats ( I am North stand 107, row CC, directly in front of North stand posh seats, so seats taken for sponsors)

But to be clear, the club Must do certain things controlled by Uefa for these type of games

Could it be there are members in North Stand posh Seats, need to be moved over to Kerrydale bit ?

Point, it may not be within Celtic’s control

  13. So there you have it the Toffs stopped going to the football. and The Kerrydale Suite started to lose money.so for it to function again they opened it up to the ordinary fan.and its by all accounts its been a success. what happens when a big European club comes to town.the ordinary fan is not welcome.the posh ones that can afford 85 pounds are more than welcome.Celtic have as long as I can remember and have been supporting Celtic for over 60 yes.full of Snobs .but hey that mob don’t care they get all the freebies .we get the usual crap.rip of prices for a pie .chips etc.no time us ordinary fans chased them Snobs.

In light of MM’s news I don’t want to dwell on this tonight, I know some will return for this game, but I am sure that UEFA will take some of the normal hospitality spaces so that will mean people have to move for that reason too.

I was never corporate, just a guy with a posh seat, but I can no longer afford to pay three times a normal season ticket for a seat in a lounge, it’s how life has been for many since the banks went belly up
