Joe the Stabiliser. Motherwell the unpredictable

99

Joe Hart’s first job when he arrived at Celtic was to provide stability where it was sorely missing the previous season.  Vasilis Barkas started the season in goal and played 22 games in total, he was dropped for Scott Bain, who made 23 appearances, but both gave way for Conor Hazard, who played six times, including a memorable Scottish Cup Final, when he saved twice during the penalty deciders.

When the goalkeeper position is unstable, a burden is added to the defence, which had problems of its own.  Joe brought authority and reliability where it had been missing.  He was a big part of Ange Postecoglou’s success.

Celtic’s treble winning season meant that last term he played more football than any other in his career.  By May, he will be 37, and irrespective of form, Celtic will be planning for the future.  He is not here for the money or the weather, only the chance to play and he would not he happy as an understudy.  Paying Tottenham £1m for a 34-year-old turned out to be good value.

In his interview yesterday, Joe didn’t make suggestions about how he would like to end the season, but he didn’t need to.  You and I both know what his intentions are.

Celtic made heavy weather of it earlier this season at Fir Park.  Conceding a late equaliser before scoring an even later winner is great fun – and how leagues are sometimes won – but better not to concede late equalisers in the first place.

Motherwell lost at Hearts last weekend, their first defeat in the league since a Christmas Eve loss to Newco – evidence that they are difficult to beat when that is their intention.  Their visit to Celtic Park in November started Celtic’s recent run of poor results.  A David Turnbull penalty put the home side ahead with five minutes remaining, enough time for the visitors to equalise, despite contributing nothing but defending in the proceeding 89 minutes.

No predictions from me about Sunday.

  2. Burnley,

Sorry for your loss, My father in law is in a bad way over here in America, and it is sad to see a once strong man, very quickly turn frail and tired, trying to help my wife and mum in law as much as possible.

Hope for a good performance Sunday. Couldn’t give a jot about profits or whatever or Lawwell this or that. Just know that no matter what I’ll still wake up Monday morning a Tim, hopefully a happy one.

That’s the great thing about this site/community, we don’t know each other, but the well wishes and prayers are genuine.

Interim report out, from the DR:

“Celtic have an eye-watering £67million in the bank after making a huge profit of £32m before tax in their interim PLC report for the six months to December 2023.

The Scottish Premiership champions made their way back into the Champions League group stage and even though they didn’t qualify for the knockout phases, their financial gains at this stage have been reflected in their annual accounts. Revenue is up nearly £9m, from £76.5m last year to £85.2m.”

  4. 13 million spent on transfer fees, what was it 10 players incoming on good lengthy contracts, we are stuck with them, the rest on improving contracts including on 1 player who doesn’t want to be at Celtic, I wonder when the policy of this job lot buying of players who will never make it at Celtic, when will it be stopped, maybe it has in that we only signed 2 in the January window ,but I don’t think it has, unless Kuhn starts taking a man on he will fail what he does at the moment is rubbish, the other is a loan with no option to buy, what a mess this is with plenty to come back from loan deals.

  5. If you knowingly buy a season ticket from a PLC board which has thrown countless titles under the bus to help Rangers out – then justice is the last thing that you deserve because U2 are a cheat, you’d be as well joining the Illuminati to be in bed with the real U2.

Res12 is gobbledegook bunkum! 12 years wasted by bible thumping middle class bores.

Auldheied if he was honourable would GTF off of the stage.

Clunk isn’t my favourite person – no grassing snitch is – but what Clunk said to Auldheid on here the other night, NEEDED to be said.

So well done to Clunk only an honest mind would recognise the significance of what you said – well done. 👏️👏️👏️👏️

Btw, wasn’t it noticeable that SFTB was all in behind Auldheid after the Clunk dressing down, the two cheeks of the most boring inconsequential arse ever in the history of bores.

Two imposters who only see injustices that suit their dumbing down of the masses pretendy long game pursuit of justice with the Res12 bore-athon sleekitry.

The closest that we have come to justice was Rangers missing out on the Europa League trophy by a penalty….a hun victory that night would have ended all of the arse dragging approaches like the boring, never ending story of Res12.

12 years wasted on this Res12 bs ffs!!

A couple of years ago a hun Euro trophy would have emptied the park and got the PLC to fk off of the stage, probably with rioting Tims kicking the main door in at Parkhead – THEE ONLYWAY ffs!

Will the huns do Timmy a favour this season – win a Euro trophy and generate the necessary anger levels to wake Timmy the fk up?

    Hmmmm…..?

You don’t negotiate with sharks – you starve them then kick the doors in and drag them the fk out of the way.

Dilly Dally Res12 Bunkum will get a few rules changed on a rule book that nobody will EVER apply to the huns.

    The options are…

Dilly Dally with the Res12 Borefest or some fangled Celtic Trust Borefest malarky.

    Or….

Get Angry Enough To Get The PLC to FK Off Of The Stage.

Its a bad day when only a hun Euro trophy victory will wake sleepy Timmy up.

    Auldheid

As I was a member of the Celtic Trust executive committee that decided to decline your proposal I have been dismayed at your continual false narrative around that decision and the individuals who took the decision, this is a personal reply to hopefully provide some balance to the debate on CQN from my own involvement, I hope you accept it in the spirit it is intended

At no point in the meeting I attended was disrespect directly or indirectly shown to yourself or the group of shareholders you represent, no personality of any individual discussed, as for the the small group of shareholders ( a group of people who were anonymous to myself and those in the meeting ) the meeting I attended only considered your proposal solely on its merits, a unanimous decision was reached to decline your proposal for the Celtic trust to get involved, The executive committee then was made up entirely of volunteers who have careers and lives, the Celtic Trust was just an expansion of their passion for Celtic, at that time I was a member it contained strong personalities with professionals drawn from Education, Business, and Trade Unionism it was a broad spectrum, a lot of talent IMO with considerable life experience, to suggest that I or others were misled or easily persuaded is nonsense and far from the truth, I understand your personal viewpoint that this decision is incomprehensible to you, and your strategy was infallible, that is your right, I will not break confidences and the confidentiality of the meeting and disclose any details of the discussion that took place in a public forum, nor name any individuals who don’t visit this public platform thereby denying them the right to reply, I speak for myself only.

To me this wasn’t a binary issue, there are good people on both sides, good Celtic people, I have no ill will toward you or the small group you represent, I have to say not all in the Res12 group of 4 feel about the CT and its people the way you do, a recent wedding guest list tells its own truth, fantastic day out.

Indeed it is my understanding that the Celtic Trust assisted with the initial Res12 procedure and with gaining signatures, when it was eventually voted on at an AGM CT voted for it. I was not opposed to Res12 or you P, if I may suggest time has moved on, and I see no benefit to anyone in regurgitating this debate on the CT and its executive, the meeting I attended never sought to offend or disrespect you or any shareholder.

The Celtic Trust over the past 20 years has fought cases both individually and collectively on behalf of Celtic fans who approached the Trust for help, to accuse them of naval gazing internally without consideration of the wider support is a false narrative the facts do not support, outside of the CT members of the CT have assisted with the successful FAC campaign, and the Call it Out protests, I attended the protests outside St Alphonous protesting against the right of the OO to march past Catholic Churches and assault priests in the 21st century.

The Celtic Trust does not have the power (shares) or the membership numbers to force real change within the Celtic boardroom, nor the impregnable towers of Hampden, limited success achieved by the CT has been at AGMs with resolutions that have the power to embarrass the Celtic board or making strong cases which the club agrees to at the regular meetings with club Secretary, CEO, and Liaison officer has been the best it could achieve, however, it is the only shareholder organisation within the Celtic family, CT also regularly has dialogue with all the other supporter organisations, I am not pretending the CT is perfect far from it, indeed who is ?

It is easy to criticise CT on social media, I have read many contributions from the perspective of If They made me King ! Every day on CQN and in the exploding world of Celtic social media there is discussion and debate around issues involving Celtic, all to frequently there is deep division between opposing viewpoints, and rarely a consensus on how to resolve and move forward, even when the club was in peril of being liquidated the fanbase couldn’t be completely united, in my own considerable experience that is an incontrovertible truth, any individual who thinks they can rally the Celtic support in their thousands or tens of thousands isn’t reading the myriad of rooms

I won’t be responding to any posts in reply, you are free to have the last word, to conclude P I wish you success in your endeavours in SFA reform, it has been for you an all-encompassing passion, the vehicle of the SFSA wouldn’t be my personal choice though as IMO the best interests of Celtic wouldn’t be served, nevertheless bon chance

    =========================

I’ve been as supportive of CST endeavours as the next guy and I still am, but because of the decision you refer to and its justification, that did NOT reflect the proposal being made on behalf of the Res12 shareholders which was a perfectly reasonable one, so much so I thought it could not have been presented as proposed,) I have felt alienated and persona non grata since.

Attempts on Twitter to discredit me that were countered by others who trust me did not help.

As I have gone to some lengths to explain its not regurgitating what Res12 sought. it using the treatment of shareholders over the Res12 years to get an opinion of whether Company/Corporate Law was breached.

The very act of doing it will achieve the kind of massive embarrassment mentioned last night.

That is where the misrepresentation of res12 has occurred and I have every right to address.

I attended the Zoom meeting last night and was glad to see some of the questions I had about the CST direction of travel (not because of animosity ) surfacing.

The very fact the meeting took place to gather the opinions of attendees on the CST direction of travel to inform the follow up Open Meeting on 29th in The Grace Suite at CP 7 for 7.30 – which I hope gets a high turnout – I was glad to hear (although audio was poor) , my reservations about the Drive for 5 policy being aired from the floor as well as some knowledge of corporate law would be useful aligned with mine.

I was good to hear from others what I put to the CST at one of the Zoom meetings a couple of years ago, but I did not chip in last night because I feel persona non grata for reasons I do not know but knowing them might help.

On CST Relationships – I drafted the resolution seeking transparency and accountability of the SFA Open Meeting at St Mary’s in 2010/11? that was accepted and taken to Celtic who on that occasion acted on it.

I learned how to use Twitter on Jeanette’s request when she chaired the Roadshow in the Kerrydale St after Tony Mowbray left.

When she jokingly proposed Neil Lennon for manager I thought that will cause waves so made sure in the Tweet that it was said in a light joking way, but not sure that reduced criticism.

Somewhere. somehow the relationship soured and I would really like to know the reason because I think just as Res12 has been misrepresented so too have I.

On The SFSA at least the SG have been forced by their own MSPs to bring together the various parties to look at solutions and I think it would be a good idea if Celtic supporters had an official presence at those meetings. I have the advantage of meeting some of the folk involved on the ground and I’ve read scare tactics to discredit the SFSA on what are sectarian grounds, which prevents engagement.

Going back to your original point about that meeting (if it is the same one I’m thinking of ) what took place and who were involved is recorded but out of respect to the individuals I have not put what was said into the public domain.

It is something best dealt with privately.

On the meeting last night I was pleased the focus has now gone on governance and strategy, my hobby horse since 2010 , although its about Celtic not the SFA and I have a lot of experience of both which I put to CST a couple of years back because I cared about what needs to be done to bring healing to Celtic as a whole , which includes the CST, so in that spirit and since some of the points were raised at the meeting you can read my thoughts at

    https://docs.google.com/document/d/1IAPRvu6G7NNOzUiTCFOxAcLpmU_2PQel/edit

To do as suggested will require a much bigger resource than I know the CST have had to work with, but I have an idea to involve ST Holders in the resolution process.

Number 5 on the list is what I think is needed more than any to bring all supporters under the same roof as I share Jeanette’s fear of having no unified say if DD or his family sell up.

I leave the Thoughts at the link with you in the spirit that created them in the first place which was to allow the CST to grow and being spirit that wish has not died.

If you use X you can make contact by DM if you wish.

  15. Thanks again to all for kind words.

    You are correct re Murray.

To be really honest Martin Bain and all the others in the cabal of hangers on privately joked about how much he indulged Wee Dick. It may well have started back in 1999 as you said.

It was weird seeing their side and how angry they were when WGS won 3 in a row. I thought it was going to collapse when we won at Ibrox at new year when We were going for a 4th and 7 points clear. Sadly Walter salvaged it for them or maybe wee blew it at Easter road and after a year of taking it on the chin Lenny then blew it at Inverness.

To win the league when we did and often by large margins run it to last day finishes in 2003 2005 2009 and 2011 despite their cheating and despite our ‘right sizing’ our business speaks volumes for everyone involved through these years in my view. Ultimately it led to their demise.

To this day I get really angry though when I hear from a couple of rugby guys I know (one a welsh guy) who take great pride in having ‘sorted out Sir David’s personal portfolio and allowed him to grow his fortunes whilst others lose much more than the face painters. The only price he paid was losing the rangers. To be fair that whole chapter does make me smile.

I just hope we can galvanise and achieve my personal lifetime aim of winning more trophies and more leagues than them before my time comes.

We are within touching distance …. No one more than me wanted this for next season. If they do prevail this year it will be another 3 seasons wait ! I will be close to getting my pensioners seat at Celtic Park then lol.

  16. When I was a wee bhoy delivering the evening papers the most up to date info we all got was on the stop press section on the back page, in fact the Saturday evenings were also the best coverage of a game it was as if you were actually still at it.

The Sundays which usually hit the pubs, that closed around 10:00 on a Saturday night, as they were being delivered to the far reaching newsagents so not too much tampering with the coverage of that days games, and then on a Monday they had all day Sunday tae spoof around with what had actually transpired, but for us that had actually been at the game we were NOT fooled, not a bit.

However in the early 70s when we were at our peak and on our way tae another quadruple before r ight h un davidson and the big mhan’s ego too over the record stopped commenting on our weekend games.

Rumour and opinion dressed up as cold hard facts …. entertaining chit chat if your down the pub for a beer but far removed from reality as you can get.

  18. The problem was,if you can get your thick heads around it,BR told everyone,he wanted” 3 or 4 quality players in the January window”.Now I have nothing againstBR,but that statement, coming from an experienced manager, with experience of the transfer windows, was ,a cover my arse statement. We all know, well I do,said it often enough on here, that no one sells their good players in January. No one,as we witnessed from the transfer window. He left the recruitment staff with an impossible task. Why buy Khun, and pay the loan money for,Idah, when it could have bought us,probably,Miovski. The reason,BR did not fancy him.How can you argue with that?.

This is a manager who would not recognise a CH,as his time at Leicester showed,if he found one in his soup, yet in some seeming fit of pique, leaves out 2 summer signings for that position, one who played 5 games,3 away, including Ibrox,conceding,2 goals, and 5 wins, now a Swedish International. The other,a seasoned CH from Poland, who after playing a couple of games which impressed most attending, joined his Swedish counterpart on the bench, sometimes not.Replaced by a LOI LB,and a guy,Welsh who has never held down a 1st team place,to be our defence.

Cannot find a way to get Scotlands most explosive, and best CF,Kyogo into a game because of his obsession with possession,in fact, from the off,he had him out of position, clearly overworking his own brain,to try making him fit his obscure tactics.

    Maeda,dear God,dont get me started on that passenger,who has scored 4 goals,this season,while little else,and

finds himself a starter in most fans,God knows why first 11,yet Palma, with 10 goals, and 14 assists,is falling foul of the baying pack.Very very strange mob,our support.
