Last act of Ogilvie should be to call inquiry

901

The hours immediately after the First Tier Tribunal reports on Rangers use of Employee Benefits Trusts, which the BBC discovered is due this month, to loan money (!) to staff what happens at Hampden will be most interesting.  SFA president, Campbell Ogilvie, as a director, was legally responsible for Rangers when they started using EBTs and benefited from one himself but he has refused to resign and the SFA have declined to put him on gardening leave, pending a public investigation.

Instead, SFA chief executive, Stewart Regan, told press the Association had investigated Ogilvie’s contribution to the matter and found he had no case to answer, despite widespread scepticism that any investigation whatsoever was held into the president’s involvement in the issue.

If, despite protests from former Rangers directors that the club acted properly at all times, the FTT upholds the position of HMRC, that Rangers incorrectly failed to pay £94m tax, Ogilvie will surely walk (away), as the SFA will have to instigate disciplinary proceedings on the club which inherited Rangers membership, for deeds done while the president was in an executive position at Ibrox.

Even our new friend Charles Green would find it unpalatable that a man responsible for the subsequent penalty remains in charge of the body imposing the penalty.  We’ve said “Ogilvie will surely walk” before, of course, only to witness ever-higher standards of brass neck, but if he pauses for an hour before resigning, let it be to give those of us on the outside of the game what is needed, a full and independent inquiry into the game, how it is administered and controlled. Before the year is out we are likely to learn that our game was violated for more than a decade by people at the very top. A charlatan was expelled from the game earlier this year while the owner of a new club, without financial track record, is trying to raise millions from fans.

In any other European country, even Italy, the inquiry would already be under way.

Thats only if you are deranged enough to equate Millers sale with our loss of those titles. Which can only really be possible if Sir David Murray was Kenny Millers bitch but that’s a question you have elected not to answer.

I hope you’re right. The game in Scotland means nothing without the rules being implemented.

Taking the Huns to task for cheating is the first step in the road to recovery for Scottish football.

If Foxy means 99% couldn’t hold a job in football management, I think he’s being extremely conservative. I know I couldn’t. Doesn’t stop me having an opinion though… and being absolutely convinced I’m right.

i might not agree with your opinion but i’ll defend your right to say what you want (keeping within cqn rules of course).

the fact that most supporters dont have a clue about the professional game doesnt mean fans shouldnt express their opinions. it only means their opinions are usually well wide of the mark.

What is the chances of Levein being sacked in the week of the FFT result?

he can’t last that long :-)

  11. France v Spain – 60mins gone and France losing their shape.

However – diagonal out-balls causing Spain difficulty.

“Thinks” – counter-attacking diagonal cross-field passes from Lustig to Sammi/ Charlie to JF could cause Barca problems.

In fairness Spain could have been 3 or 4 up had they taken their chances (Messi?).

They just cant accept that Minty and his DEADclub are to blame for the state of our game.

A generation of Scottish youth was lost because of his policy of importing players on (dodgy deals).

And other clubs having to bring in experienced players to try and stop them.

If anyone wants a culprit for the state our game is in look no further than minty and thon dead club.

Ps look at the good scottish youth(at every club) that are getting a chance now they are gone even that newclub can give the boys a chance.

With the youth of our country now being given a chance since the top flight has been freed from the shackles of trying to keep up with a club thats policy was win by any means & other clubs no longer have to battle cheating by them I have no doubt the national team will prosper in time

some of the one touch stuff from Spain was a joy to watch, Iniesta and Xavi are hot at mo ( when are they ever cold:))) France played well and are big and strong up front, something Spain found difficult to handle. The French front line bullied the two Spanish CB’s ( Ramos and a.n. other didn’t catch his name ) something we should think of doing against Barca. They can play really good football but they don’t like being pushed around it upsets their rhythm.

I would imagine if you are near an Irish bar they will show it, nothing else will be on at that time.

I have your mobile no, will call you when I get to Barca so as where to meet.

Oldtim and BT will already be there, Auldheid will be in about 5 ish, get all your talking done before 5 mind, Auldheid can talk for scotland and every other nation you can think of :>))))))

Before we hear the cries of the Scottish football pundits for the head of Craig Levein, can I suggest that we have a contest on the basis of football knowledge which is a 5-a-side match between Team A -Alisdair Lamont, Robbie McLean, Chic Young,Richard Gordon and Hugh Keevins versus Team B – McGregor, Caldwell, Fletcher,Maloney and Morrison. The winners will pick the next Scottish manager.

Watching a re-run (10mins to go) – looked to me as if France’s use of the cross-field diagonal pass was causing Spain problems + some robust tackling/ closing down of the midfield upset the Spanish ‘ticky-tacky’ normal style?

Didier did his homework, some of the tackling was a tad ott, but it’s down to the referee to sort it.

I don’t think we need to be oot with our tackling, in their faces yes, but fair, I agree the diagonal balls gave them problems, they didn’t turn too well.

Not that I expect a result in Barca, but I don’t expect us to get humped.

just to clarify. The vast majority of supporters havent played the game at a professional level. they dont hold a professional qualification in the game and their opinions on all on field matters as a direct result are usually pish poor.
