Moussa’s violation

632

When the players arrived at Lennoxtown for training yesterday morning, Brendan Rodgers had no intention of allowing Moussa Dembele to leave the club.  Such was the player’s behaviour over the following two hours, the manager’s view changed to “Get him out of here.”

Yet again, the days ahead of an important game were clouded by distraction, but this time it took the form of insubordination against the manager.  Brendan’s view changed from not wanting to be left with only two strikers, to insisting the player was shipped out of the club.

One photographer, there for the press conference ahead of tomorrow’s game, told the manager, “I’ve been doing this for 30 years and never seen behaviour like that.”

You and I have seen many come and go over the years, so losing one is nothing new.  Receiving £20m also breaks a barrier in what we can ask for our players in the future, but the manner which this came about is a source of regret.  Moussa is a great player, one who delivered for us when it mattered most.  His goals and swagger were a joy to watch.  Now, the memory of his achievements have been violated by his behaviour.  Having a go at the manager on Twitter, where he talked about being lied to (utter rubbish) and ‘Liked’ a comment from Chris Sutton saying he was targeting Brendan, all while playing to “Bhoys and Ghirls” is deplorable. I’ll get over it and applaud politely when you do the Paradise Windfall 15 years from now, but we’re not buying it, Moussa.

Lots to say on the transfer window, but I’ll pick up on it more next week.  We have a game tomorrow against an outfit who think they can win the league.  This is a day for Brendan and Scott Brown, Dedryck, Kieran, Callum, Tom and the others to do what they do so often against Newco.  It’s a day for you and me to lift the team and paint Glasgow green and white.

Last month was traumatic, but it was also cathartic.  We are a united club with a bit of an edge right now.  Do your thing, Celtic.  Spank this lot one more time.

  4. BMCUW @ 7:18 PM,

Never thought of that… though I’m not sure they even look at it like that, it’s all about managing perceptions you know;)

    BIGBHOY @ 7:24 PM,

This gets to the heart of the matter… that’s not good squad management.

Brendan had moved on 20 players before this window, when the window opened he was playing the likes of Ryan Christie and Scott Allan who had came back on loan as well as some fringe players to assess where they were.

He’d done this with every player he moved on and every player He’s kept.

I’m sure at that stage he was looking to move players along.

He said he was only looking for quality additions. He had asked for three positions to be strengthened the midfield area he wanted John McGinn.

    None of that happened…

Now there was a likely hood that Boyata was going and a real chance we could lose a “star” like Dembele

    This needed managing, it wasn’t.

Instead we get players like Arzani popping up from leftfield – why? We don’t need a loanee in this position.

We have gone for quantity rather than quality again, against Brendan’s expressed wishes.

We now have a bloated squad lacking the quality and permanence we need in certain areas and we are back to square one.

Only we now have peeved Belgium’s and Frenchmen plotting their Celtic Park escape.

    Hail Hail

Thanks – I enjoy your posts too.

I guessed the first British Football Club newspaper was launched about then, I was just a year too early LOL

The ole Celtic View couldn’t cope with the internet bampots, of today .The Blogs have never been busier due to what wasn’t a good window for Celtic fans, due to a variety of mistakes but also to media saturisation which can even now capture the training ground bust ups live, it seems.

Most Celtic fans are much more mild and philosophical about the transfer window but they appreciate too, the enormous chasm our financially sound well operated and administered club, has over Sevco and the others.

The player personnel experts on CQN can compare what we’ve lost, compared with what we now have , though despite Moussa’s late flounce to fortune, left us short. up front, chances were his flounce helped us make a good decision IMHO

I don’t expect we’ll ignore the out of contract possibilities? the list of strikers has some interesting names that will adequately cover us in the Europa until the next window opens, where we now have Gazillions to burn.

Youseff Mulumbu by all accounts is excellent cover, in an area that was all to often vacant in Stuart Armstrong’s ‘his leaving year’, and glad Brendan Rodgers put his foot down and showed Moussa to his golden palace, avoiding exactly the same scenario, we prolonged with Armers.

I think a club of Celtic’s coefficient is doing fairly well for cover with the retained Keiran Tierney and Emillio not too shabby considering KT could play every game if he wanted?

Besides eventually retaining the best Centre Back at the club we appear to have covered Jozo Simunovic ‘s unreliability with Flip Benkovic. His transfer valuation seems to dwarf the rest of the combined SPL kitty, and to have him till at least a day in May at Hamdump? is even better.

Throw in , a couple of wingers, or wonder kids of OZ and Scotland, and I think we’re sound for record sales of a very attractive Europa Cup three match package selling sure to sell like hot cakes.

    HH

  10. Bobby. So we had a net cash at bank balance of £30m at the last accounts. If you take the long term loan that actually meant £50m in the bank (Celtic love bolloks like net cash at bank. A way to hide money).

So we have had another £20m transfer profit since then and a good second half in terms of accounts.

So I am being conservative in my£70m.

Question is. What is it for?

After all we clearly aren’t a proper football club………

Still can we unite whilst the board sticks hot poker up our behinds.

Perhaps some of you are into that?

  15. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on

    From the BBC:

Stephen Dobbie says boyhood club Rangers are the “one team” who could tempt him to leave Queen of the South.

He netted four in Queens’ 5-0 thumping of Scottish Championship rivals Ayr United on the back of a hat-trick last week against Falkirk.

The former Hibernian, Swansea City and Brighton striker joined the Dumfries club for a second spell two years ago.

  16. I think Griffiths might be injured for tomorrow ?

Edouard is fit and I think will probably start as lone striker tomorrow. I reckon Rogic will be in behind him, with MacGregor left and Forrest right.

The rest picks itself I think, only injury or having signed for Aston Villa will mean a change from the usual suspect in each position. (That’s not a geat thing, btw. We have little depth now).

With some good luck, we will win. If the breaks go against us, we won’t and that will be hard to take.

  17. He’s back despite requests to stop posting.

    No me. Not Neganon2.

Welcome back to both of us.

One insults the host the other expresses disdain for a treacherous puerile manipulator.

    Quick question.

If we fail to score 5 against the confident Huns tomorrow will it represent a narrowing of the gap?

Can’t see the wood for trees

  19. Guys I’m in need of some help. I appear to have lost the ability to grasp the subtleties of fitba.

The SMSM all seem to be in agreement that Stevie G’ s Unbeaten Rangers are ” in the ascendancy” and “have the moments” but I’m struggling to grasp this concept.

Firstly, they’ve drawn their last two games while we’ve won ours. They’ve lost 4 goals while we’ve had 2 clean sheets. There’s another problem. They appear to have only won 5 games out of 11. Now, that’s less than 50%. We, on the other hand, have won 6 out of 11 – which is more than 50%.

You can maybe see why I’m confused?

Then there’s the “defence” stuff. They’ve improved dramatically whereas we’re a shambles with our best defender being a Bombscare. Yet, whatever way I look at it we seem to lose less goals.

Ach, it’s probably cause of the school ‘a went tae
