Newco interims, vanity projects and inevitable conclusion

449

Interim accounts for the 6 months to 31 December 2017 were issued by Newco over the Easter break.  Income was up £3.1m, due to the new merchandise deal negotiated (paid for) with SportsDirect, higher ticketing and hospitality revenue, although no mention was made in the notes of the progress the club made with its first foray into European football.

Costs were up correspondingly, by £3.5m, leading to a loss of £926k for the period.  The previous year, a corresponding loss of £238k led to a season-end loss of £6.663m.  We can expect something similar for this season, leaving directors to find an operating loss in the region of £7m.

The good news is that “penniless” Dave King has convinced a Trust to provide the £11m required for him to make an offer for shares his concert party do not already own.  The offer of 20p/share is likely to be accepted by some who have tired of the episode, including those who were ousted by King and colleagues in 2015.

It is likely all the money is in place to cover this season’s deficit and the share offer but the big question remains, how to breakeven?  Competing with Celtic is not even a question.

If expenditure remains at current levels, reaching the Europa League group stage would bring in enough money to remove the spectre of running out of cash, but that is a huge challenge.  Newco would need to overcome four higher seeds to get there (something I doubt has ever been achieved).

They could increase the football budget, but that would expose them to higher-still potential losses, with associated risks.  Or they could downsize.  Stick with Murty, get rid of the Portuguese vanity projects and develop a team from the ground up.

Downsizing also comes with risks.  Vanity projects sell tickets and merchandise.  A first team full of teenage graduates from Murray Park would be a hard act to ‘follow’.

In short, I don’t see financial viability in this club, never mind competing with Celtic.

For goodness sake people on here talk about football, music, weather, holidays a post now and again about dugs isn’t doing any harm.

    I agree, no qualms there.

I just think he goes quiet/ missing in games too often, but I would rather have him.

    A fantastic player.

  4. CQN can be extremely frustrating and the log off is disappointingly far too close to the log on some days. However, it’s a 24/7 operation, open to a variety of multi-talented, multi-intelligent and varied intelligent Celtic supporters and sadly others.

It has been a wonderful addition to many of our lives but on occasion, like someone close, it will disappoint, anger and let you down.

I can be selfish with it and the advice of scroll on by is always good as is don’t bite. On occasion I can’t believe what I’m reading but who am I to judge? But I can be disappointed and angry as well as exhilarated at times. That’s life.

    But I keep coming back.

  6. BP, I agree, I don’t post much but read most days. I couldn’t begin to tell you the subjects matters which are mentioned on here. Don’t even ask be what Petec is talking about sometimes. (No disrespect intended). Some days 50-80% of posts are about posters meeting up. Or memories of meet ups. These posts which are harmless, are of no interest to me. I scroll past.

You – and others – keep on talking about dogs all you like. It will still barely account for 2% of the posts on here. Some people seem to think they own the site and should direct it . The height of selfishness.

Honestly mate, post what you like, when you like and as often as you wish, within the blog rules.

If a post is uninteresting to someone they should just scroll by.

You have had some good advice from others as I recall ( e.g. The Six counties LGV driver). So don’t turn away, CQN is a marvellous source for all things.

    Tims are always better together.

  8. Juve aren’t known for their sportsmanship and neither is Ronaldo particularly. However, no matter what you think about either, the mutual respect tonight was great to watch. The Juve fans applauded Ronaldo which he acknowledged and to a man the Juve players congratulated him at the end, particularly Buffon who you can only feel sorry for. It was a good night for football.

  9. DAVID66, love you to bits pal and cheeko, tell you what ill leave it to the blog, if anyone wants me to stop posting no problem, but if i cant post about the ghuys that i love well maybe i better get outa here, but i will keep in touch. bmcuw has my e-mail and the lovely mike in toronto has as well,l by the way the exiled tim hope you and the dogs are okay not forgetting angel and mahes dog apologies mahe forgot the name.hh.

  10. I mentioned something of this to Hamiltontim about 3 years ago. The infamous CLIQUE attitude. He dismissed it. I still disagree. The clique do not own this site.

  17. Marspapa is that a polite way of telling me to eff off.

I do read the Celtic Star, I pop up Newsnow Celtic a few times a day and read every Celtic site & blog I can, apart from the obvious click bait ones.

Big Packy post away my friend and post away your doggie posts if you want.

I’m not trying to stop anyone having fun but to me I just felt that the doggie stuff was becoming silly.

If there are enough on here happy to bow wow away then knock yourselves out.

    I’ll let ye to it.

  18. I’m now bemused.

Are the clique the pro dug judean front of cqn or the anti dug ones?

Or the baldies or the hairies?

And as someone who had a dug as a wean and may have one again….and with rapidly thinning hair….where does that leave me????

And have I ever inadvertently disappointed the godfather of soul, Roy Croppie????

  21. Quick question

    On Celtic :-)))

Did Simonuvic, not just miss Saturday game, as it was 2nd game of suspension for getting a red card in an away game just before international break ???

So he missed Motherwell and Riss County games ???

I know I read he was injured ??? Was it not just suspension ????

So we can expect to see him back tomorrow??

    Hail Hail

I asked BP to stop passing messages on fae his talkin dugs. Was Dr Doolittle real?

  23. I mentioned to BMCUWP recently that I agreed with him the site improved massively after Delaneys Dunky post about why he had went ‘missing’ and what happened around Christmas?. I was very moved by that and posted my support quickly after. Next thing, several posters opened up about their experiences.

So it wasn’t about football. Who cares? It’s a community.

I don’t wish to call anyone out but the poster who complained about dog talk come back on and explain your favourite topic on here.
