Oh Charlie (swept aside) Green, you’ve got Celtic wrong!

1150

Sevco owner, Charles Green, got himself a bit confused last night when talking about Celtic, saying, “Our main rivals, or our former main rivals, across the city, they have had three different companies in their lifespan.  In fact if you look at their corporate structure now it’s more complicated than Rangers”.

For the record……..

Celtic were formed in 1888.  The officeholders of the club accepted personal liability for all debts until the club became a limited company on 12 April 1897.  On that day registration number SC003487 was given to The Celtic Football and Athletic Company Limited – a private limited company.

In 1994 Fergus McCann opened the club up to 10,000 supporters by making the club a public limited company, which then became known as Celtic PLC.  It is the same company, with the same registration number, SC003487.  On the same day the company became a PLC, Fergus, in his wisdom, registered a new company, with exactly the same name as the old company (The Celtic Football and Athletic Company Limited), in order to prevent another party registering the name, which retains an historical association with Celtic.  The new company is wholly owned by Celtic PLC.

Celtic now have in the region of 29,000 shareholders.  They, alongside every shareholder in our 125 year history, have made sure that every debt was settled.  Go to Companies House web site, click ‘Find Company Information’, search ‘CelticPLC’, for 115 unbroken years of limited liability history.

Swept aside

Green’s problems, of course, are not that people don’t understand Celtic’s corporate structure, they are that last month he told a BBC TV camera that if Rangers were liquidated “the history, the tradition, everything that’s great about this club is swept aside”.  Even he must suspect that he is not the best guy to lead his new club forward.

On the alleged illegal registration of players issue, Green was more contrite: “HMRC has still to reach a decision or announce their decision. I understand the SPL has put a panel together to look at this issue and we will contest it every inch of the way.  The view of the club, the fans and indeed newcomers like myself is that those titles and those games were won fairly and belong to this (sic) club.  We will fight it to the finish.”

At last we can agree.  If Rangers won trophies fairly they must (and will) retain them.  Speaking to Sky News in March Sir David Murray could not have been clearer that no Rangers players had dual contracts while his board was in charge.  If this is the case, Rangers have no case to answer.

However, if the old Lumley-troubler’s memory of this issue has failed him, then matters will take a different course.  If Sevco inherit Rangers SFA membership, they will be looking at many years of penalties to compensate for their decade or more of illegal player registration.

Prima Facie Evidence CSC.

    Thnking out loud.

If I were presented with a business plan that showed losses in season 1 and 2 but breaking even by season three and thereafter ,BUT the forecasts were dependent on promotion on the first two seasons, would I, as approver of the plan not have a vested interest in it becoming a reality?

If I were also the body responsible for appointing match officials would it not be in my interests that the forecasts I approved of had the kind of officials who would help them become true?

In short have the SFA screwed and skewed SFL3 and SFL2 for the next two seasons by approving membership to Sevco?

Would it not now be in the interest of the game at large to see the forecasts that the SFA gave approval to, just to reassure supporters of SFL3 and SFL2 clubs they were not being disadvanatged by the kind of financial unfair play, the predecessor of the club I had just approved membership of, was guilty of in exteremis in its past?

Has Scottish football reached the stage where the survival of the game and the survival of “Rangers” has become mutually exclusive in integrity terms?

What steps can the SFA take to convince supporters this is not now the case when they have lost all trust in their governance?

Dont know about that.Celtic have previous for this.On two occasions we submitted lists of players prior to games against Derry City and reneged on both occasions.Derry had sold out both games and fans were watching unrecognisable players after paying a fortune to get in.Thats not on.

It’s a temporary license and I’m still pretty sure they won’t last the season. For your general point though, that was always going to be the case, save them at any cost, and that’s certainly the view of most Scottish clubs. I think SPL chairmen are shocked they went to Div 3 so if they survive, and I don’t think they will, there will be gerrymandering and deals done next June. Same as it ever was? Same as it ever was.

  5. Hi lads, there were loads of GBers there today. They just started spread off around the Lisbon Lions stand and then a few minutes into the game they all rushed to the regular seats, proceeded to perform lateral movement and cause apoplexy among the stewards.

Anyway. I noticed a couple of posts there from Hamiltontim and Bjmac touching on the evil eye and poisoned tongue that accompanies the thorny subject of ‘how much time is spent on that ***** CQN’.

Completely agree if that’s the case. I just think that on this occasion the officials at Cliftonville must have known that a game against Inter, as part of our 125 years anniversary, would take precedent.

Cheers and hail hail.

  11. Evening, I sit above the gb and they weren’t there today. After 5 to 10 mins a lot of young folk seen the chance to get into that area and took it. The stewards then spent an hour going through all their tickets and sending them away.

No need to think out loud mi amigo.

It’s obvious, even to a thick Tim like me, that they will cheat their way to whatever needs be.

I posted earlier about the two games we have played in scotland so far this pre season, as bad as ever is the officiating, just a taster of what’s to come this season.

We will win the league, but the officials will allow our players to be kicked up and down the park with total impunity, an injury here, a leg break there, who gives a feck, it’s only Celtic after all.

We both know that the game is as bent as a banana, just like the banana republic that is in charge of the game.

Getting to the end of the teather, can’tbe bothered any more, the cheating, the breacking of the rules is so in your face, it’s a complete feckin joke.

    Why do we bother ?

Seriously considering stopping the contribution to the club.

PL is in the position to do something about the referees, when I see t5hat he is doing something, the contribution will continue.

Not interested in paying for a charade.

A lock of years back, when Cliftonville were at deaths door, and Derry City were flying high financially – they agreed to play two friendly games, one at Solitude and one at the Brandywell – to try and raise a few bob.Derry City only went and sunk half of the gate receipts. The Reds were in a bad way at that time,Derry were attracting big crowds in the League of Ireland,up to 10,000.They didn’t need to do that.

That’s why Cliftonville fans always preferred Shamrock Rovers.

No mate.I used to follow Cliftonville everywhere when i was young, home and away. Then i wised up to myself as i got older – the fans were getting treated worse than animals, but the board,Jim Boyce in particular never spoke out about it.

The last competitive game i went to was the Irish Cup Final against Crusaders.

  16. Celtictom,

From where I was, they were ‘let’s all do the huddle”ing at the end.

I would have said that there was about half the regular numbers. Obviously I can’t vouch for who they were or whether they were branded GBers but they were good stand-ins and didn’t seem to disperse much.

Still I’m getting old, blind deaf and prone to wishful thinking and hallucination :-)

SFA replacement has to be the issue coming out of their contribution to and subsequent handling of Rangers demise.

I’m just looking ahead (as usual). Remember when licensing was never mentioned on msm until focus was placed on it? Well now its the turn of SFA replacement. :)

It needs a head of steam behind it. I saw BRTH refer to the forecasting matter earlier. Football has a right to know on what basis a licence was approved to Sevco.

There was one steward spent a full hour demanding to see tickets then moving young one’s on, if the club wish to attract more fans and keep them then they really need to work on their customer relations.

    Sixteen Roads,

Morals? They don’t know the meaning of it son.I waited until you responded there. They were using the exact same tactics of the Huns although on a smaller scale.Envelopes under the table and so called salaries submitted to Dublin to the League of Ireland until they were caught. The wages some guys were on was frightening.I have lived in this city for 20 odd years and have NEVER been in the Brandywell. The situation has changed now and they are being run decently and indeed one of their players worked with me and a lovely young lad he is too.

  21. In which I look at the joint SFA/SFL/SPL/Sevco statement.

Who owns Rangers Football Club right now? Not Sevco Scotland according to the statement.

Plus why Brechin have three chances to defeat Rangers FC, one on the pitch and two off it.

Why it seems to me that the SFA have granted Sevco Scotland Ltd a membership which does not exist and why possibly there are simply no players of Rangers FC registered to play tomorrow.

I think they sold Liam Coyle sure for £100,000? It doesn’t like sound much, but in terms of Irish football, and at that time,it was serious dough.

    The Cup Final? lol.

I was there too.Cliftonville never turned up.I was sitting beside Ciaran Caldwell and his da ironically. After the game,I always remember it as Sevco beat us 1-0 earlier that day,I beat a retreat to the right.I knew Broadway was only a stones throw away and I hiked up that wee hill to the Falls.Boy did I get full before returning to Robinsons and possibly the last bus to Derry.

  24. Celtictom

Just checked with a couple of regulars.

You were spot on. Most of the ones who moved in just took the opportunity. Some complaints from the GB lads about the song list (singing about dear departed friends and roamin in the gloamin etc….) but being as I said a bit mutt and jeff, all I get is the general noise and impression that one part of the ground hasn’t succumbed to rigor mortis.

Seems that a fair argument is starting amongst some GB regulars over …………well to be honest I’m not sure what it is over (other than the song choice) ,,,,,,,,,,,,but over on the GB proboard there are a few slings and arrows being fired amongst the contributors.

They are riding rough shod over everything that can be concieved as a rule, the damage has been done.

Do you honestly see that they will be accountable for their decisions, they are a law unto themselfs, it’s too feckin late.

I am in awe of guys like your good self for the contribution to their demise, without the likes of you and others it would never have happened, BUT, the powers still have the megaphone, the internet bampots are still using a couple of cans and a piece of string.

There is much miles to travel mi amigo.

I watched the euros this year with so much anticipation, and was so happy to see the footballers being allowed to play football, then I see the joke that are scottish referees, it honestly makes me want to puke.

There is a chance to turn our game around, the huns are gone for at least two seasons, let the game flow, let the footballers play football, irrespective of who they play for, but, you know as well as I do, we will be punished for their demise.

They can’t help it, it’s in their genes, the hate will intensify from now on, they will be langushing in the bottom division, we will have euro nights, their hate will fester inside like never before.

I want PL and the club to take a stance on the referees, it’s about footballers being allowed to play the beautifull game, the time is now, or my money is gone, I feel that serious about it.
