Playing with an eye on your next gig, bold use of Latin

845

I don’t like playing games when players have transfer or contract business swirling around the dressing room.  Give a team an excuse to underperform and they tend to grab it, so I expect a difficult challenge at Easter Road tomorrow.  If we want to maintain our unbeaten run and two month old clean sheet record we’ll need to bring our A game.

Neil Lennon’s comments at yesterday’s media conference, about potentially dropping players who plan to leave in the summer, point in this direction.  Few manage to perform with an eye on their next gig.

Well done to the new regime at Newco Rangers who used Latin in their stock market announcement yesterday.  There was no “ex-gratia” payment to resigning director, Brian Stockbridge, who instead had his contract paid up.

Paying Stockbridge in full is hardly a money saver but with him not around it will sweeten the medicine others will have to take and allow a fresh angle to be pitched to supporters at season ticket renewal time.  Let’s hope their manager sticks to his contractual guns.

Daily Record columnist, Chris Sutton, has today made the case for Neil Lennon to leave Celtic and move to England.  Nice one, Chris.  If you hand around long enough to get to see it all.

Was at that gig at the Apollo as well. Suicide supported as well and got pelted with various objects. I was in the front row and forever more the front row at the Apollo began with Row C as the first two rows were thrown at the stage. Honest it wisnae me as I was thrown out by this massive bouncer for PUSHING! Pushing at a punk concert, well I never.

  3. Elbhoy,

Is the someone in the Arbroath team with the surname Dew??

Dew, Linn and banjo wid be kinda funny.

  4. Celtic striker… Troy Deeney of Watford… Seems to score regularly but know nothing about him..

  5. Looks like The New Rangers are looking for mug investors and the mug supporters to put even more money in by scaring them with the prospect of Celtic doing ten in a row

    Prestonpansbhoy,

Hi mate have you got one of those usually yellow booster packs with a compressor built in for tyres that run off the ciggy lighter socket? I know you said the valve is knacked but can it maybe take enough air to get you the requisite half-mile or whatever away from home so the AA will attend? Or maybe you can borrow a big bloke to stand on the spanner to get the over-tightened wheel nuts off? Apologies you’ve probably been through these but…I feel your pain!!

I have a daft old car that I’m trying to keep on the road and seem to spend half my spare time trying to figure out schtoopid shtuff like that :))

In other news I had to laugh at this paragraph from the Herald about safe standing:

“Celtic, though, will first need to obtain a safety certificate from Glasgow City Council who would seek counsel from the police and other relevant safety groups before giving the go-ahead. The council’s movements will also be guided by the UK government’s weighty 232-page tome Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds – known as The Green Guide.”

Celtic FC – GCC – The Green Guide….The UFH strikes again!

  7. Pretty much Ron.

And now every rag today telling the gullible fans that they should be happy now stockbridge has been booted.

“Well done to the new regime at Newco Rangers who used Latin in their stock market announcement yesterday”

I think this is a first for them the previous regime would never use the popish language.

Hopefully we will see more Latin from them, the phrase bellum domesticum being quite apt for this particular dysfunctional family

  9. Token Tim,

Its a goal scoring centre forward we’re after.

You obviously still think it’s a team game;-)

  10. PF,

I know. hence the question mark.

In saying that goal-scoring midfielders are worth their weight in gold.

  11. Weeron…..

Have seen Sevco play for a total of about 10 minutes in various snippets, since the New Club were formed.

There is virtually zero interest in them down here in Englandshire, apart from a few Huns who live down here ,but even they are outnumbered by Hoops as the hillbillies don’t last long away from their wretched, bigoted lives in Scotland.Probably missing the home comforts of their sisters’ beds.

    Hun pen …feckin joke

Our Old Firm board should take note of this

They maybe skint ….but playing against 12 men is difficult

  13. Hmmm maybe that money on Citeh @ 13/5 wasnt doon the drain after all.

    2-2 with 11mins to go.

  14. the long wait is over on

    Paul

Agree on your point about the ex gratia payment.

With apologies for anyone who read it last night I posted this

    “the long wait is over

Interesting that Clyde are already reporting that Stockbridge has left with no payment when the statement clearly says that no “ex gratia “payment has been paid.

Who knows what his contract may have stipulated in the event of dismissal?”

Followed by the later observation that I suspect the spin suggesting that nothing had been paid would be at Stockbridge’s behest to avoid “civil unrest” directed at him.

He’s the new Craig Whyte / scapegoat character. All the problems since the EPO will now be his fault and not the “club’s”.

On Celtic matters I’d sign Griffiths at the right price. What we need is a proven penalty box scorer. Yes it would be ideal to get someone in who’s going to make a difference in the Champions League but as a team ( sadly ) now well outside Deloittes top twenty it’s unrealistic to expect box office signings who can do that.

The realistic level of our aspirations is , frankly and sadly , qualification for the CL and a regular and proven goal scorer who can , hopefully, perform at a Champions league qualifier level is now essential. We don’t currently have one. We have , potentially , one in Watt but until he knuckles down and translates his undoubted talent into consistent performances we have to have alternatives.

Griffiths would never be a first draft pick on the transfer wish list but he’d score more than Stokes.

  15. Hmmm currently waiting on Boro to score and assuming no other goals in the 3 games, then your tuly will be just under £370 better off!

    HAIL! HAIL!
