Rope-a-Dope lemmings ready to walk off cliff

704

Rangers International’s advice to shareholders, issued last night, for next week’s General Meeting is legally spot on.  They have read the contract but they’re not reading the narrative.

As they say, the club would not be bound to repay the £5m loan from MASH if shareholders vote in favour of doing so.  Repaying this loan may not be in the interests of “shareholders as a whole” (I dispute this).

In asserting these views, and winning the vote on the matter, Rangers International will surely not surprise MASH.

When someone as thorough and well-resourced as Mike Ashley puts resolutions in front of you, when his motivations are “not clear to the directors”, you have to consider if you’re in a Rope-a-Dope scenario.

Without knowing anything about Ashley’s plans, I can give you an assurance that he will expect shareholders to vote against his resolution.  He is asking for his money and expects this request to be declined.  He is also asking searching questions about the events which led to the succession of the current board.  I do not expect him to be satisfied with the answer.

The real question is, why has Ashley engineered a scenario where he has made a legitimate request for repayment and been rejected?

If you think next week’s meeting is about winning the vote you could not be more wrong.  The cynic would say Ashley wants justification for what he’s about to do next.

Those shares in Rangers Retail Ltd (RRL) which are due to be returned from MASH to Rangers International on repayment of the loan are currently worth 26% of RRL.  I wonder if they will be worth more than 0.1% of the company this time next month.

This is a classic Rope-a-Dope.  Pay him his money, do it quickly, secure as much of your Intellectual Property as you can, as quickly as you can.  This is not a matter for brinksmanship.  You stupid, stupid, lemmings are walking off a cliff.  Again!

Best post I’ve read today, and as usual there’s been a few good ones.

I’m guessing then that we’d be welcome turning wearing rosary beads? For some reason I don’t think it’s barriers that would be broken…

Friends in Celtic – fundraising request for Mary’s Meals

My brother in law, a Jag amongst Tim’s , together with his best mate are attempting to do the West Highland Way in 24 hours this weekend, all in aid of Mary”s Meals , a charity which I know is close to a lot of our hearts…..

I’ll let them explain what this madness entails …

“96 miles, 17 thousand feet of ascent, 24 hours. No wheels, taxis or horses, just running. The route is the famous West Highland Way in Scotland, a rugged cross country route through mountains and glens, starting in Milngavie and ending in Fort William. John and Mark will start on the stroke of midnight on June 6th 2015, and hope to finish before midnight the following night.”

Someone once said to me at a very painful episode in my life “whatever it is that you feel, it’s not love. Love is not like that”.

I then went on to find out what love is. Life changing stuff.

Nope. It is either well founded or a mistake.

If the former then results will be beneficial.

If the latter life will provide endless opportunities to learn from it.

I did post yesterday that certainly in the football sense Celtic seem to be a learning organisation.

On running the business in a way that attempts to recognise the wide but mainly ethically way its support see things, don’t get BRTH and I in the same room. Im talking “Talkathon”

From my occasional meetings with folk at Celtic I have never come away questioning their ethics, but I’m a very trusting fellow.

  8. Queen of the South getting themselves ready for a push for promotion next season. They will be a big challenge to any younger and less well prepared clubs in that division.

    From BBC Scotland

“Gavin Skelton has left his position as manager of Northern Premier League club Workington to become a player-coach at Queen of the South.

The 34-year-old will assist manager James Fowler as the Palmerston side try to gain promotion from the Scottish Championship next season.

Skelton and Fowler were team-mates at Kilmarnock for two years.

Fowler said: “He was a model professional as a player and has an impressive record as a coach.”

Skelton joined Workington as a player having begun his career at his home team, Carlisle United.

He played more than 230 games for Gretna from 2002 to 2008 before spells at Kilmarnock, Hamilton Academical and Barrow before returning to Workington as a player-coach in 2013.

Skelton took on the managerial position last year and led Workington to the play-offs last season.

“Having made the step up to manager so quickly during last season, I wanted to take my time choosing an assistant,” added Fowler.

“It has to be someone you trust and someone you know that you can rely on.

“Gavin and I were team-mates at Rugby Park and, for me, he fits that criteria.

“He’s still young with fresh ideas and I believe he’ll prove to be a valuable member of my coaching team.”

thought of you last night when Irish news announced along with the Tricolor a united Irishmen flag was hoisted above stormont

can you account for your whereabouts :-)))))

Dena, I would love it, just love it to have done that. But, alas, it wasn’t me! Great to see a Tricolour over Stormont though.

However, years ago, in the ’80s I was involved in an incident at RTÉ studios where a banner was unfurled from the mast which made that day’s news and features on the Reeling in the Years programme for that year.

timbhoy2 – I used to sit in FS4 in the main stand and I know what you mean, JS lower is night and day compared to what is on offer from there. Not sure with the restricted space there what they can do to change that but I agree with you it’s not the greatest. Hopefully it’s something the club looks at as there’s no comparison just now…

  13. I met a former Indian colleague recently. She had left our operation in India because she was behind the male pecking order and try as I might I failed to do anything about it. But she left with my blessing. Which felt inadequate to me but important to her at the time.

She has flourished as a result. Her current job is managing a business process outsourcing operation. That she helped to set up. In Saudi Arabia. For women employees only.

Women and men are not allowed to work together of course, so the Saudi government is promoting this approach to getting women out to work. Interesting that they have chosen India to help. My colleague informed me that her priority is to coach a local Saudi woman up to management level so she (my ex-colleague) can come home and look after her family. Or go on to her next challenge.

That suggests to me that at least part of Saudi Arabia is trying to change things. In a way that is manageable for that culture and the time and place it’s at. Maybe that deserves support? Mythili certainly does.

But who am I to judge?

I come from a modern first world culture that apparently is having an Orangefest at the weekend which will add a few hammer blows to the wedge dividing the local tribes.

Anyone want to throw some stones at a greenhouse? Or a desert they’ve never visited?

  23. Rhetorical,

I think there are many people that just want the PLC to live up to the club ethos, mission statement and codes of conduct expected from all supporters, a wee bit of an example would not go amiss, would it ? Or are they no Celtic supporters ?

My guess is, DD is embroiling the club with an ethos that does not reflect the founding ethos, winning and making money are all that will matter and there’s plenty of supporters that want that too, there is nothing some will condemn as long as the team is winning. That frightens me, becoming ra peeple is not an option for me. So am gonnae complain about it.
