SPFL actions ahead of Government probably saved lives

187

The Commons report released today only looked at actions in England, noting that a failure to lockdown even a week earlier in March 2020 probably doubled the number of first wave fatalities.  Mirror actions took place in Scotland.

While politicians in London and Edinburgh pondered what to do, football acted.  With the most valuable game on the roster two days away, the SPFL went ahead of the Government and suspended its season on 13 March 2020.  By then, we had all seen what was happening in Lombardy and had an ominous feeling of what lay ahead.  Permitting football games, where tens of thousands of people mingled, was reckless, we all knew it, fans, administrators and statuesque Government ministers.

The decision to stop the season was brave and had consequences for the League’s board, who came under intense personal pressure, some of which remains to this day.   It possibly saved lives, so huge credit is due.  A less self-absorbed political class would have acted ahead of them.

It is sad to see him still hated by them and now hated by some of our support too. I hope he gets a job somewhere and is allowed to get on with it quietly.

    But not in Israel.

    Was that the evidence?

Israel? No, after what he’s been through in his life I wouldn’t dream of telling him where he should and shouldn’t go.

  3. living in a constant state of concern about your and your families lives because of the job you do Would give you a perspective on life that I couldn’t understand.

I think it would also make you pretty immune to criticism from people who don’t understand what it’s like.

Prob there too.such as life for a manager on the lookout for a new job, can’t be seen to be unavailable to no one.job market yada.the country choice tho is a handy narrative for a press in dividing the Celtic support tho ,phasers are at full malky with narrative while cheating is going on around us.

Soz mate need sleep :-)but we dump a lot on our heroes,nl gave me some moments as a tim,you too i guess.

Neil Lennon will probably be presented as the [new] always ready to pull us out of a crisis legend at the right time either before or after the next window when Ange will be deemed as a failure after we blow our EL group attempts as the huns go through, and the shipping of points domestically will do him in.

The noise will point to dissatisfaction on stilts if NL does come back.

But when did a Celtic PLC ever crumble to noise ?

Anybody can make noise. But if you fans are incapable of being ruthless at ticket renewal time, then what you ask for is what you’ll get.

Ange ball died on the pitch at Ibrox. And it ain’t coming back because we squeezed past Aberdeen.

Maybe a few scalps from the bottom six teams here and there.

But what good is that ?

Neil Lennon or Gordon Strachan will replace Ange sooner than you think.

If you dismiss that as eejit material then you ain’t been watching.

To sum it up….”Rebels My Ass !!!”

Starmer: Labour will work with PM to fight Covid-19 in national …https://www.theguardian.com › politics › 2020 › apr

4 Apr 2020 — Keir Starmer has vowed to work with Boris Johnson “in the national interest” to guide Britain through the mounting coronavirus outbreak, …

In the first 6 months of the Covid crises, there was no difference amongst the better together crew about how to deal with it Labour and Liberal hid behind the fat ass of Boris and are equally as culpable of the horrendous death toll as Boris

The mistakes Nicola Sturgeon and her Government made were to follow the UK Govts madness in dealing with Covid sadly she lacked the courage to take Scotland on a different path

Someone mentioned Scotland playing on an artificial surface. A year from now, a World Cup will take place and every match, including the final, will be played on an artificial pitch.

  8. That was a tough watch last night. McGregor coming on gave us balance.

McTominay is a conundrum. Plays for a top club but his qualities and best position are not obvious. Looks like a centre mid playing CH or a CH playing centre mid. He doesn’t fit our midfield style at all but is a risk a a CH. He should probably be on the bench most games. Feel bad saying that after Saturday.

In contrast Calmac does the difficult things (link up play, changes in phase of play, off the ball positioning,) very well and makes it look easy🍀

  12. A RANGERS star was unable to attend his trial as he is on a Covid isolation.

Jermain Defoe was due to stand at Glasgow’s Justice of the Peace court yesterday afternoon.

The 39-year-old, of Bearsden, East Dunbartonshire, was to face a single speeding charge.

Prosecutors state Defoe drove a black Range Rover Sport at 56 miles per hour in a 30 zone.

The alleged offence is said to have taken place on December 28, 2020 on the A730, Mill Street, between Millburn Avenue and Mill Court in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire.

Procurator fiscal depute Jennifer Gilmour told the court that she was given a reason for Defoe’s non-attendance.

Justice of the Peace Colin Machment asked what the reason was.

    Miss Gilmour replied: “Covid isolation.

Amazing the amount of hun players now affected by covid after being immune last season.

One shot on target against a team with some part timers. Even if we qualify in 2nd place, we are likely to be drawn against any 2 from Serbia, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Norway, Croatia, Poland or Romania. Fat chance of qualifying from that with the strike force we have.

Denmark scored in the last 5 minutes against them,1-0.Took a draw with Austria. Not the mugs they were.

  16. Amazes me ,on here, the scorn,or sour comments heaped on Gilmour. He does not play for the Hun.He upped ship and done them out of millions. Not an ounce of loyalty towards them.Unless of course, the dislike is aimed at him because of his Mum.Too ridiculous for words.I hope the boy continues his excellent upward spiral.A very good player for the amount of 1st team football he has had.Augurs very well for him.Of course he should play for Scotland. The better he becomes, the more vomiting seen over Mordor way.Whats not to like?.

Now Patterson, different.Like our own Montgomery, not at that level yet.For Clarke ,needs must.

  17. That big Diddy that gave Jullien a bit of a hard time.Doing it to a few CHs .Even he is getting stick for getting booked.Which incidentally, was never a booking.
