  1. SUSTAINABILITY

Everton’s new £500m stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock is setting the standard for sustainability, as one of the most environmentally-friendly football stadia ever built.

All 480,000 cubic metres of sand required for the initial dock infill process were transported to the site by boat from the sea-bed, 20 miles out in the Irish Sea. This prevented thousands of trucks being needed to provide that sand.

Contract partner Laing O’Rourke have exceeded their ambitious target of re-using 95% of all materials on site.

A full assessment of flood levels has been undertaken, while heritage assets from the Dock’s heyday, including railway lines, mooring posts, cobbles and capstans, are being preserved, refurbished and integrated into the finished build.

As the 52,888-seater stadium takes shape, the Club and Laing O’Rourke are also improving the health and safety of the workforce, and cutting waste, with a pioneering system of design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA).

This entails pre-cast concrete terrace units and external brickwork panels being manufactured under factory conditions, and slotted into place on site, dramatically minimising wastage, improving safety and saving valuable time.

In readiness for an increase in numbers, the Club is set to upgrade facilities at nearby Sandhills train station, following a fan survey held back in 2018 which suggested that 60% of fans wanted to use public transport.

The close proximity to the city also means more fans will have the opportunity to walk to Bramley-Moore Dock, while a looping matchday shuttle bus services will run between the stadium and the main stations in town, for those who cannot make the journey on foot.

Electric vehicle charging points will also be installed at the stadium, where accessible parking will be made available, along with dedicated parking for bicycles.

  2. More inclined to look at our own failings in that defeat to Juventus, Lenny got the team selection and tactics wrong. We were really strong at set plays ,what did we expect them to do , tickle our attackers, we didn’t cope well with those dark arts.

Don’t think they expected to win , never mind so comfortably, they were ecstatic.

I was pi@@ed off after that game and it still bugs me.

  3. ‘Premier League charges Manchester City over alleged financial rule breaches

League refers alleged breaches to independent commission

Alleged financial breaches cover period from 2009-10 to 2017-18

Manchester City are alleged to have breached rules over providing ‘accurate financial information’ to the Premier League.

    Mon 6 Feb 2023 10.47 GMT

The Premier League has charged Manchester City with breaching its rules on dozens of occasions over multiple years. If proven these would be the greatest offences committed by a club in the history of the competition.

The independent commission which will consider the charges could recommend that City be expelled from competition, suspended or docked points if it finds the club guilty. Those sanctions are listed in the Premier League’s handbook but the commission is also clear to apply any punishment it considers appropriate.

The six-times Premier League champions have been accused of failing to give “a true and fair view of the club’s financial position”, of failing to “include full details” of player and manager remuneration, of failing to comply with rules regarding financial fair play and failing to co-operate in a Premier League investigation that has concluded after more than four years.

The charges will send shockwaves throughout the world of sport. City have reshaped football since they were taken over a private equity group controlled by the royal family of Abu Dhabi in 2008. The value of their squad is estimated to be more than £1bn and the club sits at the heart of a global network of 12 football teams.

The financial charges brought against Manchester City cover the period 2009-2018, and those requiring a club to “cooperate with, and assist, the Premier League in its investigations” extend from 2018 to this season. The charges will be heard by an independent commission, to be appointed by the chair of the Premier League judicial panel, Murray Rosen KC.

City were banned from the Champions League by Uefa in February 2020 after being found to have broken the financial rules of the competition and misled the European governing body, only for the ban to be overturned on appeal by the court of arbitration for sport.

On the central finding that City’s Abu Dhabi ownership had disguised its own funding as independent sponsorship by the state’s commercial companies, Cas found: “Most of the alleged breaches were either not established or time-barred.”

Documents disclosed as part of the ‘Football Leaks’ hack appeared to show that City had inflated the value of sponsorship deals from Abu Dhabi companies, and channeled money from the Gulf state to the club. Documents also suggested that the City manager Roberto Mancini had been in receipt of a second, secret, salary during his time at the club.

City have always vociferously denied any wrongdoing. They previously described the Football Leaks revelations as a “clear and organised” attempt to damage the club’s reputation. City have not yet responded to the statement at time of writing.

A Premier League statement said: “The proceedings before the Commission will, in accordance with Premier League Rule W.82, be confidential and heard in private.”

    EMERALDBEE \O/ A DOUBLE NINER!!

“I remember the Juventus game well. Pulling, dragging our players down and pushing all night. Every corner, shy or free kick.”

Juventus had actually “scouted” the referee for a few games and knew that he didn’t give fouls for this in any of the games that they had “watched” him, por cierto

  5. Documents also suggested that the City manager Roberto Mancini had been in receipt of a second, secret, salary during his time at the club.

Someone should ask Slippy what he thinks of that idea.

  7. SAINT STIVS

I’ve been to Goodison Park many times. It is a tight medium-sized stadium enclosed on all sides by narrow streets of terraced housing.

Visiting team buses have to negotiate such a street, lined on either side with parked cars, to get to the main door.

    Goodison Park’s capacity is 39,572.
