The exceptional Celtic Movement

900

When this publishes, I should be a few kilometres into the Great Scottish Run.  These events can be humbling.  You see people there with messages on their shirts.  ‘The big C’ gets a lot of mentions, in many of its forms, as does heart disease and conditions most of us will, fortunately, be less familiar with.  Some simply have a loved one’s smiling photograph on their back.  Their former feeling of helplessness matured into purposeful action.

I’m running for Celtic Charity’s 1254125 campaign.  This is not something controlled or even organised by the club, but it is fundamental to what Celtic Football Club is.  The Celtic Movement was called together in a church hall in November 1887 to alleviate the distress of poverty in those unable to feed themselves.  It is different from other clubs because it started differently and has since walked unfamiliar roads.

The spirit to help others has been increasingly self-evident in recent years but I am sure the commitment has become more embedded as a result of 1254125.  It is now part of our routine, what we know to expect from ourselves.

We will only stay different if you and I continue to insist we walk (or run) unfamiliar roads.  We all worry about where our club is going.  There is little we can do about many potential dangers but we can make sure Celtic remains anchored to the spirit which founded it.  You can support 1254125 through the MyDonate page I setup to convince me I shouldn’t give up halfway through this run.  Your support is appreciated.

Yesterday we lost Cllr George Ryan, or St John Doyle, as he was known on these pages.  George touched the lives of hundreds of people but unless you were in direct contact, you would not know what he did for the people of Glasgow, for Celtic supporters in difficulty, or even for the Thai Tims.  He was an exceptional Celtic man who lived the way exceptional Celtic people have ever since that meeting in St Mary’s Hall.

It is a murky tale that would make a great book ( if there was no fear of retribution for the writer or the publisher ).However, It goes much further back than Jacksons article in the Daily Ranger Sir David Murray who has done a great job of keeping his name out of the scandal which he caused started the whole sorry saga his greed for power and influence knew no bounds and so many were willing to follow him.The cover up on this scandal was not just confined to Scotland but covers the whole of the UK including many Government agencies and was wrapped in the protective coat of the Masonic Lodge. The whole story will never be known and the current occupants in the Board room at Ibrox are confident that newco will not run out of funding and in two seasons it will be welcome back to the SPL for the triumphant Newco who have won on the proffesional leagues in Scotland in there return to there rightfull place. H.H.

Will not be surprised if we have to go to ibrokes for them to get a bumper pay day.’

Those who know about such things are saying we’re not yet in the draw. It’s only the wee, diddy teams at this stage.

  3. I dont know why the huns are demonising Craig Whyte.

In my opinion without Craig Whyte they wouldnt have any team.

The outcome of withholding tax and NIC for a full season was that they survived to the season finale. This reason allowed them the time to come up with different scenarios to still have football at Ibrox and play under the Rangers name.

It was only a normal summer break. Another transfer window. New players.

New division. OK that was different.

However consider the consequences had Craigie boy paid his taxes.

The whole charade would have ground to a halt mid season.

Not exactly the blip that is now being portrayed that has happened. The old club/same club argument would have a totally different dynamic.

“I reckon sale and leaseback is what they are working towards. A dripping roast rather than a quick buck..

It could well be the best scenario for Celtic, not owning their own Stadium and Training ground means their “Club’s” value Will be a fraction of that in the Accounts, while the rental costs Will be debilitating.

It means they Will have less money for Football activities and little Collateral to raisea credit- line.

All in all vastly cortailing their abilities to be competitive in the Premier League.

“Interesting though that Jackson is suggesting that the Murray/Whyte deal was brokered by the bank, which is what I have suspected from the start.

Yes, while Muir gets singled out from that Old Board for disloyalty if the Bank did want to ensure they got their 18m and reduce LTSB’s exposure to RFC’s numerous risk you could say he was one of the few doing his job.

Making sure LTSB and MIH extricated themselves from a financial and PR disaster that Rangers were about to come.

Thoughts and prayers today for George Ryan and his family.

Never met the man but always enjoyed his posts. A true Celtic man and I believe a man of great dignity.

Very sad that Celtic and CQN have lost another son and the Ryan family have lost a much loved husband and father.

Celtic should be taking this time to ensure that our destiny is never ever connected in any way to what the huns do or do not do.

They should not be on our radar. They are not worthy of our consideration.

We must not reform the ties that fate has broken.

It is interesting that Keech Jackass attributes the sale to Whyte as being the responsibility of Donald Muir who “plucked Whyte from obscurity (he was one of those off the radar billionaire recluses, presumably)”.

It is interesting but it is not yet convincing. As I recall it, Donald Muir was under tremendous pressure from Rangers fans, led by the sleekit Walter Smith and cheer-led by the Daily record, as they blamed him and Lloyds for the effrontery of trying to impose financial disciplines when they had other plans. If Jackson prints something I agree with, I immediately question my own beliefs.

P.S. There was a delicious aptness in Somerset Park, whose club Board said “No thanks” to SDM, being the scene of major Ibrox protests

  9. Keith Jackson and his latest orc diatribe……….it comes across suspiciously as priming the lumpen proletariat for Liquidation Day II

Jackson’s paymasters will determine what can/can’t be written so as not to alienate their audience. This piece – which contains nothing new nor exclusive – will still be painful for their support to read and for that Keith deserves our thanks. He has missed out loads, of course, but it is a timely reminder for those that can join the dots that they are continuing to be bled dry. Just reading his column will have them looking out their marching brogues and torches.

I would be interested to know if Jabba is orchestrating this or if he has truly burnt his media bridges. We all know their is a media campaign to rubbish their current board and lionize the “real Rangers men” waiting to take their places around the board. The wonderful thing is people like the Easdales will continue to run them into the ground by trying to pander to the lowest common denominator – the orange pound.

Sale and leaseback, a couple of comments:

The mechanism for this was put in place with the incorporation of a holding company more than 2 years ago. Wavetwower it was called. But Whyte never saw it through, although he may of course return. The rhetoric was always there with Whyte, ‘having the club fan owned’, ‘giving it back to the fans’. He meant it, he would just own the stadium and sell off Murray Park.

Whyte’s proxy, allegedly, has made a suitable carbon copy in RIFC. It’s as plain as day. TRFC will be given back to the fans, this is the next play. A fan owned club, it’s true, they just won’t own the stadium in the swap, RIFC will only be landlord, the investors will own their Blue Pitch.

It’s controversial, but no more so than stadium naming rights, really. A long lease means it’s at the disposal of the ‘Club’ for the rest of the stadium’s useful life.

Or in 2 years time get the invite to the English or Euro leagues, builds a sponsored 70,000 brand new all seater nearer the airport, put TRFC into administration and leave the landlord goosed would be a fair old table turner. Or is that Tina Turner.

Dividing club from company and asset ownership from user just ensures the ghost walks the streets, the eternal crypt is long sealed.

Totally agree, for all the criticism the Celtic PLC board get, some justified, some harsh IMO, they have managed to put in place a business model independent of the infamous old firm.

Their demise was indeed fateful, if the last couple of years has taught us anything it has proven Celtic don’t need Rangers, we must continue to ensure we insulate ourselves culturally and financially from them, Celtic’s altruistic, monumental uniqueness can be celebrated.
