Hit them quick and hard

263

Dundee have not scored a goal since taking a 2-0 lead over Motherwell with 20 minutes remaining earlier this month.  Since then, they have played 200 minutes football, plus added time.  Motherwell battered in three late goals that day to take the points, as Tony Docherty’s defence capitulated.

Their response, was to keep out Aberdeen and Newco, both of whom scored three times against the Celtic defence this month.  That bizarre loss to Motherwell is Dundee’s only defeat since losing 7-1 at Celtic Park in February.  Dundee were a shambles that day, but they reacted with the same fortitude they did to the defeat from Motherwell.

Celtic won 0-3 at Dundee on Boxing Day, albeit the game remained in the balance until late, and we won 3-0 in the first league meeting between the sides this season, in September.  Both these three goal wins were level at the break.

We can conclude that Dundee are a difficult side to predict.  When it goes wrong, it goes wrong quickly and thoroughly, but until then, they have enough composure to subdue most opponents.  So hit them quick and hard.

It’s all getting a bit exciting.

  2. Don’t think I’ve ever looked forward as much to a game against Dundee in my life !

Press the life out of them, win the ball in their defensive third and go from there.

  3. glendalystonsils on

Excitement of this kind I could do without . With our resources we should have been a bit more comfortable at this point in the season . Important that we learn lessons and we get our act together for next season

  4. An Dun,

Another thing.Do not be so abrupt and belligerant sounding with me.It does not work.If you spent some time .reading other items of news, you would not need to ask me.

  5. People think I am being hard on Maeda, but when I mention his drawbacks as a footballer, they obfuscate, humming and hawing. He is possibly one of the worst left wingers I have seen at Celtic. But,and it is a big but,I agree, through the middle,or inside channels,if used right,a menace with that pace.Balls over the top,Vardy style. That’s the role he plays well for Japan. He has none of the attributes a winger needs.

Tremendous athlete, who’s legs are too fast for his brain.I do like the guy,but not going with the argument,” Two managers picked him”.How many managers had Taylor 1st pick?.How many don’t fancy him?.

I hope he has a fantastic run in if fit.

  6. Does not matter the opponent, all except Hearts are playing for something.Tomorrow we will get an inclination, when they visit Love St.

  7. I am racking the brain cells here to remember that day then blogger James Forrest put up a piece and had me thinking there is a man in the know

A response to comments by others then posted on line just doesn’t attract my interest.

Like people debating the merits of individual players.

It all means well …. nothing really.

If Daizen resumes training next week, is that c.3 week’s he has missed?

    Not an eternity.

If he were in consideration – I imagine we are looking at him getting

    – last 30 minutes against Hearts (that would also depend on the score)

    – first 60 minutes of Glasgow derby.

I’d like to see him at Rugby Park. Crappy pitch leads to more broken play.

His nuisance value and high pressure might come in very handy.

Then two games on grass to finish.

“Celtic won 0-3 at Dundee on Boxing Day, albeit the game remained in the balance until late”

Would that be the one where Don Robertson assisted by Alan Muir on VAR failed to spot the wrestling going on in the box at most corners, mainly targeting CCV ? It shouldn’t have been level at the break by my recollection had either done their jobs (though we’d likely have missed any pens awarded to be fair).

“We really shouldn’t be talking up Dundee.”

As Ange used to say we should expect and prepare to face the best version of our opponents on any given day. Any articles like this that reduce the pressure on the team are fine by me. Treat them with respect, no complacency and just get the job done. I certainly prefer it to the hunnish “diddie team / we should always just expect to win” mentality that’s worked so well for Sevco over the years.

If a little expectation management helps the crowd stay calm and supportive and thus helps the players then more power to Paul’s pen (keyboard?). I’ll be anxious enough having seen us go there and struggle when we had stronger teams than we will at the weekend. e.g. when we needed a 95th minute winner to beat them (Paddy’s Day 2019?!) when Neil replaced BR – Lustig, Ajer, Tierney, Brown, Sinclair, Edouard and all.

  10. I wouldn’t think our biggest challenger’s captain would agree that Maeda is one of the worst wingers he has seen at Celtic.

Scares the life out of him. I am so much more confident with Daizen back in the squad.

He has his deficiencies of course but one of our most important players at helping the team press and play at tempo

Good afternoon all from the Shipbank. Absolute rabble in here. I’m the only sensible fella here.

Maeda excellent athlete but not the greatest footballer however he’s a pest to opposition’s defence!

  13. It’s worth remembering that, in the 7-1 game, Dundee could have been 2 up in the first few minutes.

I did not get it from James Forrest blog,I posted about it last night.JF blogged about it this morning.

Maybe he got it from me:-):-):-).

  18. Celticray,

Re Maeda,”He has his deficiencies”.Yes,far too many to play on the wing.I have noticed he is really starting to come in at the post more.Last game a hat trick, should have been 5,but what he needs to do more.

    He is an absolute enigma.

  19. G Fearon,

Boerrigter ????When did you see him play?.I must have went to get the pies.

  20. Our media really are abysmal .Today Vlad informed them that in the last 6 months,Huns have won 4 points more than us.You would think someone would venture”Yes,very good, but your point being?”.Would you not love to be a journalist at his pressers.A buffoon there for the taking.

  21. I believe we are the designated home side for the cup final. Does that mean we won’t be giving any tickets to the huns?
