Hit them quick and hard

263

Dundee have not scored a goal since taking a 2-0 lead over Motherwell with 20 minutes remaining earlier this month.  Since then, they have played 200 minutes football, plus added time.  Motherwell battered in three late goals that day to take the points, as Tony Docherty’s defence capitulated.

Their response, was to keep out Aberdeen and Newco, both of whom scored three times against the Celtic defence this month.  That bizarre loss to Motherwell is Dundee’s only defeat since losing 7-1 at Celtic Park in February.  Dundee were a shambles that day, but they reacted with the same fortitude they did to the defeat from Motherwell.

Celtic won 0-3 at Dundee on Boxing Day, albeit the game remained in the balance until late, and we won 3-0 in the first league meeting between the sides this season, in September.  Both these three goal wins were level at the break.

We can conclude that Dundee are a difficult side to predict.  When it goes wrong, it goes wrong quickly and thoroughly, but until then, they have enough composure to subdue most opponents.  So hit them quick and hard.

It’s all getting a bit exciting.

  1. Early life

McGrory was born at Millburn Street, Glasgow. He was the son of Henry McGrory and Catherine Coll, both of whom were Irish Catholic immigrants from Ulster. Henry and Catherine had been married at St. Baithin’s Church (known locally as ‘the Chapel’) in St. Johnston, a village in The Laggan district in the east of County Donegal, before emigrating to Scotland. While Catherine was from The Laggan, Henry may have been from elsewhere within County Donegal. Jimmy’s elder brother was born in St. Johnston before the family left for Glasgow. They lived in Glasgow’s East End on his father’s wages as a gasworks labourer.

  2. Just a personal message to say we have received Thank You Letters from Kilbride Hospice, Strathcarron Hospice, The Halliday Foundation and the Neuroblastoma Fund for our donations raised by Superbru entry money and further donations from Xmas prize winners. I have posted the letters on a What’s App Group but I haven’t worked out how to post them on here but I am open to tech advice. on how to do this.

So this is my personal thanks in addition to the letters sent from the above agencies

  3. Jackie- I would, although it could be argued he’s a really good impact sub against tiring defences….

I only came on here early this morning because I havent stopped Peeing since the wee CQN Bevvy Session on Friday.

How did you manage to post that then? Are you a no hold pee-er or do you employ staff to help you do that?😳

Thanks for your efforts. After posting, I asked my older brother and he confirmed that Jimmy`s life started in Millburn St and he then moved to 264 (?) Roystonhill, or, as the locals called it, Garngad Hill. So, we definitely lived in neither the same close nor the same `house`.

Ah, well, I`ll have to be satisfied with having been a close neighbour to perhaps the least celebrated incredible goalscorer in world football.

  6. Incidentally, I just received an article by Hugh Keevins (?) on Celtic’s game today. Even by Scottish Media standards, it is truly dreadful

The meeja are fairly ramping up the anti-Celtic stories this morning judging by ‘Newsnow’.

Keevins at the forefront , of course .

    Any significant games on today?

  8. GLENDALYSTONSILS on 28TH APRIL 2024 10:59 AM

    I am not surprised.

Just as annoying is that neutrals still believe that ` they are just as bad as each other ` and that the Media treats them equally.

    Cheerio for now.

  9. I’m heading back to the Southside to watch the game today. Not been back for a wee while so I’m looking forward to it.

  10. Dry, bright and cold in Dundee just now. High cloud. 50/50 chance of rain for the game according to local weather guru.

Be very careful Mate in case you bump into BRRB…..

If you do…You will probably never go back to the Southside.

  14. BRRB / Big Jimmy .

I can take you down to see Scaniel and the donkeys .

However , the journey may take ten hours , what with BRRB stopping for bevvy and Big Jimmy stopping for multiple pees 🤪

  15. -BRRB probably Sweeneys. I’d prefer Heraghtys but I’ll probably get outvoted.

Big Jimmy thanks for the warning 😊

Just saw the headline in Hugh Keevins masterpiece and that’s as far as I would bother, he’s a complete arse!

  17. Wee Bobby c

Totally agree regards keevins he keeps getting the gig because we react to him . If we all shunned him he wouldn’t get the acclaim he does . And if he was pro Celtic he wouldn’t have got the Gig in the first place . Come on Celtic today , get the game won playing Celtic football ,but please be aware of Beaton he has been placed there to do a number on us . HH

  18. Kevin’s is a cuckold of a man. Bullied by the huns in the studios and too cowardly to say what he really thinks.

Back in the day he helped us but was bullied since.

  19. Down to their conditioning I reckon from their manager and the refs giving them everything:

    13:00

    St Mirren 0-0 Rangers

Fabio Silva hits the deck in the box.

“Get up you,” shouts Steven Thompson on Sportsound.

He does collide with Alex Gogic but not a chance is it a penalty.

    He’s got previous for it. It’s a booking, it’s a dive.

He doesn’t need to do it. It’s embarrassing.

  20. Just read Hugh Keevin’s piece in the Sunday Mail, and although he snipes and snaps like someone who has been banned from seeing the club he loves, but to be perfectly honest the main points he makes, if you ignore the sniping, are factual, and most, if, not all, have been expressed on here and other platforms.

    1. He says that he would not put money on Celtic winning, or, getting a draw – the way this season has gone neither would I, or, I suspect many Celtic fans.

    2. He mentions that we have only two clean sheets out of the last ten and have a habit of losing late goals, whereas in the past we would be scoring them – I can’t argue with those facts.

    3. Yang’s carelessness in the closing minutes of added time at Ibrox which denied us the win is stated, together with the view that but for that lapse the title could be all but wrapped-up. – Again I have no beef with that.

    4. Recruitment is next up – he writes that Lagerbielke, Nawrocki, Kobayashi and the on-loan Phillips have all been a waste of time and money. He says that the former two are not being trusted to start any match and this was even more acute when CCV was injured. – On the money as far most posters on here are concerned.

    5. He warns of any slip-ups today – don’t we all?

    6. He then is full of praises for Matt O’Riley and bemoans how we need (and need) our captain fully fit in the run-in. – All in line with what all Celtic supporters are thinking at the minute.

    7. James Forrest is talked-up and Keevins believes that he and Matt will be the key to securing a result today – an opinion that some of us will hold.

So although his article is ‘dressed-up’ in parts and looks critical, really it is not and merely reinforces many of the facts that have affected Celtic this season.

He may not be my favourite pundit, but I am interested in what he says – bit like ‘playing the ball, not the man. If Celtic do win the Double, rest assured there will be warmth in Hughie’s heart, although he may do his damndest to conceal it, and will probably be happy that he did not jinx us by tipping us.
