You asked for it, many of you campaigned for it. All of you debated it, expressed a view on it and now your wish has been granted. The SPL voted 10-1 against parachuting Sevco into the league next season, with only Sevco itself voting for, and the Loyal Resisters abstaining.
Our fellow SPL clubs have spoken “unequivocally”, as have their fans. To be fair to fans of former club, Rangers, many of them wanted no part in this shoddy arrangement.
Having won the argument we must now win the future. As Celtic said in their statement yesterday:
“During Celtic’s long and illustrious 125-year history, there have been periods of difficulty. At these times, our supporters have always stood shoulder to shoulder with the Club. We need our supporters to be with us now, more than ever.
“We know our own supporters will be acutely aware of the significant challenges that lie ahead. We enter next season as Champions of Scotland and look ahead to retaining our title and to making an impact in a European context. We know how difficult this will be and we call on our supporters to join us in tackling these challenges, to take their place at Celtic Park, to invest in the Club and to continue to give us the kind of support for which they are renowned.”
The call has been made. Now, more than any time apart from when Fergus issued a similar call in 1994, you need to step forward and buy a season ticket for the champions and only club in Scotland who have played their entire history in top flight football.
The important debate isn’t about Newco anymore, it’s now about Celtic.
I’ve read the doom and scaremongering this morning, some of which is downright inappropriate. The grassroots fans who raised their voices and brought about this situation now have a responsibility to ensure our common future is successful.
There are many desperate for all or some of the 10 clubs who voted No yesterday to fail. We have to ensure all succeed. The forward plan for Celtic has to be a forward plan for Aberdeen, Dundee United, Hibs, Hearts, Motherwell and the rest.
All of these teams need a solution which allows them play competitive football in front of packed stadiums and to retain the talent they develop well into maturity. Any plan which does not aim for this will fail.
If we achieve this, yesterday’s vote will be the day foundations were laid for a stunning sporting achievement.
More later.
I don’t need to tell any of you about Oscar Knox, the three-year-old who is currently going through chemotherapy. We have all been touched by his photographs and TV appearance, while his dad has kept us up to date on the blog.
If you think our football club is worth stepping forward for, I make no apologies for asking you to dig deep twice today and remember why the entire Celtic project started. Take a read at Oscar’s blog and get involved.

Cardiff City have offered to
refund season ticket holders
upset by the club’s decision to
change its colours from blue to
red from next season.
Some 70 season ticket holders, out of a
total of 16,000, are believed to have so far
taken up the offer.
A Cardiff City spokesman said: ‘The club in
this process does not want to lose even one
season ticket holder, but we understand it’s
an emotive issue that for some there’s no
turning back.’
Fans who applied by Tuesday will receive an
immediate refund – minus a £20
administration fee – while others will only
get their money back if their season ticket
are re-sold.
The change of colour is part of a rebranding
exercise by the club’s Malaysian owners
which has also included a new red dragon
crest.
Chief executive Alan Whiteley has said the
facelift was intended to help the club, known
as the Bluebirds, to extend its appeal.
The club said in an email that it been
‘helped and encouraged by the influx of new
season ticket holders that we have also
seen’.

Yes that’s what I read to. Surely Andy Pandy isn’t telling porkie pies :-)
Here’s an idea, why don’t “Rangers” start their own league?
It could include:
Sevco 5088
Bomber Brown’s Rangers
Blue Knights Rangers
Wattie’s Old Fashioned Rangers
Walker, Texas Ranger
Linfield Ladies FC
The winner gets to keep Sir David Murray’s favourite picture of Joanna Lumley.

Ten Men-We could easily pay Inter an appearance fee.My point is we are in danger of asking too much of the punters.New strips,STs etc plus .If the money is going to a Charity,I wouldn’t question it mate.We shall see how many first team players appear for Inter.HH.
Alex Salmond will have a hand in accommodating Sevco into Div 1/SPL 2.
mccoist & brown saying different things minutes apart Hmmmmm
the minute Green was out the room the fat sleekit coward (am) says he cant ask fans to buy season books.
AM – made opinions crystal clear at spl meeting. Petrie etc asked for sanctions for us to stay spl. Only options starting afresh in div 3 AM

I understand the charity aspect of your post. Like most friendlies all the first XI Celtic + Inter players will be withdrawn after 45mins or so, especially as we have a CL qualifier the following Tuesday/Wednesday
Incidentally, remember Chelsea were owed £140k in the list of Rangers creditors?
That was their match fee + expenses for the friendly on Aug 6th

!!Bada Bing!! – I saw Alex Salmond on TV recently for the first time in years.
He seems to have turned into Morn from Star Trek: DS9
http://images.wikia.com/memoryalpha/en/images/9/91/Morn.jpg
I’m impressed at his determination to be famine and drought resistant, but not sure that an independent Scotland could afford to keep feeding him.
If he gets any fatter the entire country could disappear forever within the eternal darkness of his Schwarzschild radius. (thumbsup)
In the aftermath of the blitz of Manchester in 2008, RFC as it then was, contributed to Manchester City Council’s UEFA Cup Final Review. Their “submission” began in contrite fashion with the assertion that, “the purpose of the review is to assess what lessons can be learned for the future rather than apportion blame to those involved in the organisation and management of the event”. It humbly proffered the view that, “the consequences of the failure to have sufficient back-up systems for the screen in Piccadilly Gardens were dire”.
The Rangers Supporters Assembly prepared a “report” on the event which began in self-flagellatory tone by saying, “Before going into our detailed report, it may well help [help what?] if a short explanation is given to illustrate what appearing in the final meant to Rangers supporters…….Unlike most other clubs, rangers fanbase is worldwide…….one of if not [sic.] the largest travelling support in Europe…….Rangers is in fact the most successful club in the world……..[police] seemed to switch from ‘helpful mode’ to ‘riot mode’.
Yesterday’s performance by Malcolm Murray at the SPL meeting was described as “arrogant” and was seen by some as a major factor in other clubs’ hardening of attitudes towards Sevco. This is a response typical of that of the Sevco support:
“I actually think Malcolm Murray could be a great Chairman. No nonsense, hard as nails. And a good Rangers man. If he is arrogant, it is only because the rest feel inferior in the presence of the Rangers – exactly how they should feel. F*** the rest of them. They don’t care about us, why should we be pussyfooting about them?”
What’s not to like about these megalomaniacs?
pheersy – I keep forgetting about Ayrshire. (thumbsup)
I am immensly prouc of Celtic (and yes the Board) for yesterday’s decision and the statement that followed. It is time to get behind both Celtic and the other clubs. I will be buying my season ticket again and I think St Mirren will have me and my family going along on a more regular basis.
Vive le Celtic
Just hit play on my music collection on my phone and as if by magic, the first 3 songs that came on all seemed to be linked to Newco/SPL scenario:
Sleeper – Sale of the century
Oasis – Don’t look back in anger
and finally Primal Scream with the SPL’s new anthem:
Movin’ on up
Now i know why they are called ‘Smart’ phones
Does anyone know when the identity of Club 12 will be revealed?
Maybe Doncaster is too busy with SFL business
Ten Men-Hyped up training session,I think you’ll find we pay our bills :}HH
Hello paul, just a wee thought i had today would you agree that when murray and his so called revoloution of scottish football ,acording to his lapdogs in the press, that they actually destroyed the very fabric of the game. They ruined the very eco system scottish football, now they are out of the picture its a chance for the eco system to repair its self, ok we all know we will be favourites to win the league, but the cup competitions and the race for 2nd place (whos your money on that one?) will provide the very much needed medicine the game needs.

Unable to use a season ticket any more, however,
I think this is a great idea fro Celtic and a way for people like
myself to inject some cash into our beloved club.
Celtic Supporters Clubs might think of purchasing as well.
============================
I”ve suggested to Celtic the idea of a proxy seat for overseas supporters where they pay for or contribute to the cost of a proxy seat that Celtic then allocate to someone who would like to attend a game (not necessarily the same person game to game) in their place.
A subscription to Celtic TV would be an element of the price. Still at the embryonic stage but it is one way for those not able to attend but can afford to do it, can put a bum (you know what I mean) on a seat at CP and spread the supporting load.
Everybody wins.

I was critical of one of your posts the other day so, in terms of balance, i think i should give credit for your latest post (although, in reality, you probably arent too bothered about either of my opinions!).
On a different matter, just listened again to Bomber’s appearance last night on SSB. A decent interviewer would have kept on about who was part of his latest consortium – his response of “the rangers supporters” didnt seem to cut it. I think, though, that they knew that he was just making himself sound like a bit of a tube and took it easy on them. God help the supporters of the cvlub fomerly known as Rangers if they are placing their trust in him, although a few of the callers were appearing to do exactly that!
I listened last night to the John McEnroe 5Live phone in last night and the last caller was a guy from Glasgow. He made reference to jelly and ice cream to celebrate Andy Murray’s win and ‘Rangers dying’ – i think it was lost somewhat on Messrs McEnroe and Henman!!!
All of these teams need a solution which allows them play competitive football in front of packed stadiums and to retain the talent they develop well into maturity. Any plan which does not aim for this will fail.
So, I wonder what that solution might include?
They ask for 50, we offer 10. Thirty per cent of the gate, I think. Maybe 25 after decent allowances for fixed costs.

Celtic have been working on a Membership scheme and I feed in ideas from the blogs but it was parked recently until the future became a bit clearer.
The conditions for introducing something that will embrace Celtic supporters everywhere in what form they are best able to support – see my earliere post on a proxy seat- have never been better.

They wouldn’t want to hear bad news on the 12th now would they? :)
For once in this whole drama they bring something forward and WE’RE NOT HAPPY! The 12th would have been hugely ironic and would have done for me;)

Paul67 et Al,
Regarding “Club12” – Who is it going to be? Dunfermline or Dundee?
The powers that be are screaming about all the money that is lost to the game because Sevco got a knock-back (whit a pure riddy by the way!). Maybe their time would be better spent looking for ways to generate money to replace it (isn’t that their job after all?).
Isn’t there a money spinner staring them straight in the face? i.e. A play-off between these two for a place in the SPL?
punk rock tim ,
cheers. She’s no a bad old bird as ma-in-law’s go – mind you , i’m still on my first !
