Victor’s £1m a light amid utter insanity

1847

You want some good news? Around £1m of Tottenham’s money for Victor Wanyama will find its way to Celtic, which will offset some of the economic impact of this morning’s news. This aside, there is only bad news. If we want to buy footballers priced in euros (or anything other than GPB) they will cost more money. We will also have to pay higher wages to be competitive with European clubs.

Goods will cost more – it will start today with fuel and travel, then food, electrical goods and everything else. Wages will buy less (not just less-able footballers). Borrowing repayments will be higher. Business expenditure, wages and employment will drop, so will the tax take – and money available for welfare spend.  The poor always pay the highest penalty.

If you are rich enough and without a mortgage you can indulge in flag waving all day, happy in a delusion that self-determination even remotely exists in modern economies. Or that more self-determination over here, and a little less over there, is a panacea. It’s not, it’s just another economic crisis coming your way soon.

The entire political class have failed us. Calling a flag waving referendum was a grubby attempt to hold onto power by the prime minister; this mess is his making. Whoever succeeds him will have to successfully pander to the same party membership in order to get elected.

Jeremy Corbyn’s mealie-mouthed campaigning was an embarrassment. His “7 out of 10” backing for remain did what it was supposed to do: convince people he was going through the motions for something he didn’t believe in.

Who’s ever heard of a leader winning support for an issue he is prepared to back 7 out of 10 himself? He should go, but political ego will ensure he’ll hang around to make sure Johnson wins the next general election.

It took six days for the Greek government to abandon their own disastrous EU referendum mandate. Instead of attempting a rescue, all our political ‘leaders’ will give us is more populist power grabs. It’s already underway.

  1. 16 roads - Celtic über alles... on

Just a fleeting visit to pay my respects to MACANBHEATHA.

Never had the privilege of meeting MCB,however I know that a few of the CQN crew went to visit the legend,in the Strand during the Belfast hootanney.

When I seen then later on they couldn’t have spoken any higher of him – a proper Celtic gentleman by all accounts.

Sleep well brave soldier of Ireland.

    Hail Hail.

  2. Morning all.

Sincerest condolences on the sad passing of MACANBHEATHA.

Sincere condolences to those who knew and loved MACANBEATHA.

My Dad and the rest of the troops had a great time in his company last year;he’ll be a sore miss for many.

    R I P Sean.

  4. After the last 2 days, happy the football’s back.

    Come on you Wales.

Sounds like the Dembele deal might be on the cards. He and Griffiths next season would be unstoppable.

Only 5 sleeps till first friendly and the chance to see Brendan’s Bhoys in action.

    Hail Hail.

  5. RIP Sean.

    ACGR,

Thanks for the link to Kate Bush. I know most will appreciate her lovely dancing moves. But she is also a very fine singer. The orchestration in that song moves me very deeply, the chord sequences are powerful beyond words. Sorry a bit OT.

  6. MACANBEATHA, I was one of the unfortunates who never met you and, only came across your posts on here. The truth is, yer posts flew over my head.

Way, way, way too intelligent for the types of zany-nonsense that you would have read under my name.

I’m speaking to you as though your still here.

But, the thing is, you’ll always be here.

I know that you can read the thousands of words being typed for you from here, from where you are.

The words from those who knew you will probably be dripping in tears for a true, heroic legend.

    You’ll Never go away.

Like those who have gone from here before you, they’ll always be here.

When I was younger, I used to sing all the songs in praise of you and yer brave comrades, especially in the Jungle at Celtic Park where, the events from you neck of the woods would be woven into a lot of the hearts and minds of the Celtic support.

MACANBEATHA, what you bravely achieved, then what you and yer heroic comrades had to endure under the bondage of slavery, should be more than enough to see you all seated in the grandest company among Jesus’s flock.

May God Bless You MACANBEATHA and, protect your soul.

    Thoughts and Prayers

for all who are close to MACANBEATHA.

    MACANBEATHA RIP.

Cheers for the wee heads up about the daft family stuff last week

I remember reading Macanbheatha’s posts as a lurker and sometimes quite scary when you realise your reading somebody that has went through the serious stuff (as somebody posted most of us only either read or sing songs about) hopefully his family will soon be laughing and joking after this wee sad time

On a lighter note on my way to work the other day am sure your Cqn account was hi-jacked by a happy clapper (I wish it could have been me) am sure i read nearly 2 positive posts in a row :-)

  13. Good morning all from a damp, drizzly, overcast EK.

If God spares me I’m off to Spain for 10 days from tomorrow (early) morning so you all get a break from my morning reports till 7th July.

    Any reports from Espana ?

Enjoy your holiday and cheering on your sweep team tomorrow, I have a few shekels on the home team to lift the trophy but would be happy enough if your sweep team hand out a bit of payback to Thierry Henry :-)

Condolences, thoughts and prayers with the loved ones of MACANBHEATHA a man of honour and action.

  16. Gerry,

I can’t see Ireland going all the way although it would be great if they could knock out the hosts, despite France being my *ahem* investment of choice before a ball was kicked

That post was the most beautiful post I ever read on CQN.

You have posted hundreds if not thousands that irritated me but you made up for the lot with that one.

    God Bless You.

  18. Gerryfaethebrig on

Ireland have now got a great chance with both of us having ten Bob on France,,,,, from the start

That could be MON’s team talk sorted

  19. Good morning, dull and damp here.

Sad news overnight, God rest. To all out there, take care as it’s going to be a bumpy ride especially over in the occupied counties in marching season.

Having a rest day from gym duties, instead my day will consist of furniture removal, dump visiting ( recycling centre is the posh name), family duties and a nice payday treat of lunch with the good lady.

Obviously I will try to watch a bit of football as well, but will I avoid my £5 donation to the bookies?

  20. Corkcelt –

seeing your name there prompted to do my final (probably) dot count. I make it 295 seats remaining with availability as follows

    Lower tier (14)

    5 in 113, 3 in 101, 2 in 141 and 1 in each of 114, 143, 144 and 202

    Upper tier (281)

Most of these are on 416 (131) and 405 ( 83). The others being –

    13 in 404

    5 in each of 440, 443 and 412

    4 in 441, 407, 409, 411 and 415

    3 in 405 and 408

    2 in 437, 403, 404 and 414

    And finally single seats left in 438, 439, 442, 402 and 410

And if all of that doesn’t add up to 295 then my apologies!

So sorry to read of the passing of MACANBHEATHA. What does one say, how do you console those that he has left behind. They will take solace from knowing that he will always be with them in Spirit and one day they will be reunited.

you wished you voted yes ……

Ashamed to be a UK citizen tonight we voted for a little Britain

    —————————————————————————————————-

I voted Leave and I am getting a bit pissed off with the attitude of Remainers like you accusing me doing so for narrow nationalistic reasons. Nothing could be further from the truth for many like me who voted to get out of the exclusive club run primarily for Big Business and corrupt bankers who want to privatise any bit of the public sector they can screw a profit out of. Do you realise that if a future UK government wanted to re-nationalise the railways, the EU would block it? Same with water and power.

The EU is busted flush just as the UK is. Electors in every sovereign state now need to take control of their affairs and elect governments that will act in everyones’ interests and not of those of the super rich. The closer those in power are to the people they represent, the more accountable they are and more likely to act to advance their interest.
