90 minute treble tightrope

789

Did we get a fright at Inverness last week?  That’s probably overplaying it a bit, but we didn’t get our own way against a team who have already overachieved this season and are more than capable of raising their game for the big occasion.

This is a team who will have no fears of facing Celtic.  They have a manager who will arrive at Hampden tomorrow with a plan to win the game.

John Hughes will not be the only one with such a plan.  Ronny Deila knows this game is the most important on the roster between now and the end of the season.  Only a potential Scottish Cup Final would be a bigger game.  Without wanting to be disrespectful of Aberdeen’s title push, which is an arithmetical challenge only, we are two wins away from winning the treble, and Inverness are the only top flight team who are able to stop us.

It we do achieve a treble this season it will be our first in 14 years.  Martin O’Neill’s triumph in 2001 was our only one in 46 years, so we have to wait a long time for these occasions.  Unfortunately, it takes only 90 minutes to extinguish the opportunity.  A few refereeing decisions the right way and Dundee United had us in a vulnerable place in the last round.  Without absolute concentration the same could happen tomorrow and the remainder of our season would take on an exhibition-game feel.

Feeling a bit nervous now.

Keep your eye on Kris Commons, he loves Hampden.

  1. SES That indeed was an awful night. Recall retiring to MJ Heraghtys and Gerry McNee came in with Jim Whyte. Always recall JW was like a rabbit caught in the headlights.

been a regular reader for a while – great site and great posts.

Celtic been in the blood all my life, thanks to my late father – often wondered if i would have supported another club were it not for him – no chance! I believe the history of this great club and what it stands for would have found me anyway – I’ve always felt it an honour to support Celtic, it is indeed more than just a club! don’t get to many games these days, but have made sure that my 2 bhoys know the history! Love what Ronny has done with team and hoping for a good result tomorrow. Hail!Hail!

  4. Going back to the 6-2 game.

Even after we made it 4-2, how many were still worried that they would come back with a dodgy penalty, an offside goal or an “Honest Mistake?”

I know I was still nervous till Henrik glanced in number 5.

Years of conditioning had left its mark, but the fear evaporated after that day.

Hello again all you young rebels.

Had to go to the shopping mall today not my favourite pastime

as my wee princess is fond of saying

” see you when yiv got tae go tae the shoaps yir murder so ye ur ”

but this was important the wee fella said to me yesterday

” Papa a need new fitba boots ”

” Whit, you’ve only had them a couple of months do you wear them

    every day to school?

” naw Papa the teacher wullny let me ”

    ” whats wrong with them?

” the studs ur awe worn doon ”

” well could you not just nail new ones on like we used to do ?

” whit ur ye talkin aboot Papa?

    ” never mind c’mon ”

Off we went to the huge shopping mall think Braehead only three

times bigger and full of sports shops, picked one of them and he

settled on his usual luminous green pair and i headed across to pay

and left him looking through all the Epl gash on display not a hoops

top in sight except the wee mhans, shameful.

I kept my eye on him and he started talking to some Asian kids and

they were pointing at his top and the badge and it looked as though

he was demonstrating taking a free kick without a ball and then

using his arm to show the flight of the ball and then holding a steering

wheel, i just couldn’t figure out what he was up to but they were all

chattering away excitedly and holding thumbs up.

After paying i went over and said .

” what was that all about wee mhan?

” a wis telling them awe aboot Nakamuras free kick on Utube when

he puts the baw in a bus windey ”

” but son they are Chinese Nakamura was Japanese ”

” disny matter Papa they know noo he played fur the bhoys ”

Someday he’ll make a fine ambassador for the club.

  8. Bada As much as we love Izzy if we are going to improve as a team his final ball needs to improve and he has to be more defensively aware.

  11. G64-his final ball can be frustrating, but when he doesn’t play you can see what he brings to the team(if you catch my drift),width and the space he creates for others
