90 minute treble tightrope

789

Did we get a fright at Inverness last week?  That’s probably overplaying it a bit, but we didn’t get our own way against a team who have already overachieved this season and are more than capable of raising their game for the big occasion.

This is a team who will have no fears of facing Celtic.  They have a manager who will arrive at Hampden tomorrow with a plan to win the game.

John Hughes will not be the only one with such a plan.  Ronny Deila knows this game is the most important on the roster between now and the end of the season.  Only a potential Scottish Cup Final would be a bigger game.  Without wanting to be disrespectful of Aberdeen’s title push, which is an arithmetical challenge only, we are two wins away from winning the treble, and Inverness are the only top flight team who are able to stop us.

It we do achieve a treble this season it will be our first in 14 years.  Martin O’Neill’s triumph in 2001 was our only one in 46 years, so we have to wait a long time for these occasions.  Unfortunately, it takes only 90 minutes to extinguish the opportunity.  A few refereeing decisions the right way and Dundee United had us in a vulnerable place in the last round.  Without absolute concentration the same could happen tomorrow and the remainder of our season would take on an exhibition-game feel.

Feeling a bit nervous now.

Keep your eye on Kris Commons, he loves Hampden.

Herbo at 4.20 50 Shades of green . My son is playing in Motherwell at 10am this morning then a mad dash to Hampden.

I too are hoping someone leaves a parking space in Menock Road or Celtic Road as it used to be, Sean Fallon, Roddie McDonald & Frank McGarvey all stayed very close to each other in Menock Road between Aikenhead Road & the brow of the hill on Menock Road. Roddie lived right next door to the wonderful and much missed, Sean.

Let’s do our jobs today, Bhoys and we should do it.

  2. Quite excited. First Hampden game since the Jinky final 10 years ago.

Great looking day and only smiled headache from last night’s visit to the Park Bar.

  7. Beautiful morning in Troon.

Leaving in about an hour to get a parking place hopefully!

Pitch looked in excellent nick yesterday, will suit us. Regardless of ten men defences and park the bus tactics I expect us to win on that big surface. Room to open them up.

    Mon the Hoops!

If we win today we will maullicate Falkirk in the final.

  8. To all Tim’s going to the game today …have a good one..

“If we win today we will maullicate Falkirk in the final.”

If the players are thinking like that, we might do neither 0:-)

I did, however, like your reintroduction into the lexicon of `maullicate” .

I think I prefer your spelling, with the allusion to `maul` to the more traditional ` mollicate`. 0:-)

  11. Going to the game with my big sis and her Falkirk supporting partner.

They were both at yesterdays game as well.

Here’s hoping we get ourselves through to set up a great day for us all in May!

Will be going for a few beers with them in Glasgow after the game.

Are any of you lot going to be about?

  12. Good morning fellow Tims, heading down to McDonalds for my breaky, meeting my brother in law at? Well whenever he calls on my mobile, as he is doing a runner from the chapel after Holy Comunion he said at 10 o’clock mass, he sais round about 10:30? That’s fast I said, when you where younger it seemed for ever, I may start attending more often now ;)

(Heathen) and then down to the Beachwood for a libation before the game, have a great day everyone, mon the hoops.

Lurking Huns enjoy our day, and girfuys.

  13. Woke up this morning with a strange feeling.

No going to the game today because of a family commitment and it feels like I’m betraying the team !!!

Last time I felt like this I was about 8!

For all those Bhoys & Ghirls going today I hope it’s memorable for all the right reasons and the team perform.

Give the Bhoys are roar from me!!

    Hail Hail

  14. Soon off to the necessary evil that is Hampden. I really dislike attending matches there. I think it might have something to do with the fellows who reside on the sixth floor. Shameful lot.

Anyway a dry gazebo beckons, south stand today. I trust Ronny will get it right and a return at the end of May will result.

Hope everyone has a good day. I’m wanting to be eager to watch the whole game at home on my return, chilled beer, relaxed waiting for our goals to flow.

  15. Morning all.

Beautiful day down here. Hope it is still beautiful in every way this afternoon, when we have maullicated/mollicated John Hughes’ team. Personally, I have had way too many disappointments in finals, never mind semis, to take anything for granted. Thank you Ronnie and the team for getting us this far.

I will not be amazed if Guidetti starts and Leigh G comes off the bench when ICT have lost a fraction, for that is all it is in the modern game, of their physical commitment. Regardless, I trust in Ronny Deila . My nervousness about this game is all to do with me and nothing to do with Celtic. To help keep myself calm, I am going out cycling and will not come back until three. I will look at Scottish Cup, Fixtures and hope to see : Celtic V Falkirk. Only then will I relax and read about the game on CQN.

Cheerio to one and all ( except TonyD`s Lurking Huns 0:-) )

  17. Stan and Stefan - Sitting doon for Scott Broon on

In a coffee shop up the Mearns and reading the (free) Sunday Mail.

What a rubbish paper that is. Journalism, they wouldn’t know it if it Alex Thompson and Oor Phil were to present it to them on a plate.

    Examples…

Centre page spread of how wonderful the new Southern General is going to be. Really. Already undersized. Staff looking to leave in their droves. Staff and patients are going to suffer. As described to me be a doctor who will be assigned there – until he can get out.

Ronny Deila has a 10 year plan for Celtic, according to the headline. No mention of it in the article, only quotes from Ronny saying he has a history of staying with clubs for a long time.

And of course, a plea for Rangers players misdemeanours to be wiped clean prior to the playoffs so that some of their players can assault opponents in the remains league games but still be eligible for the end of season, out of contract(?) finale.

As for the politics… not going to mention it on Cup semi final day.

    I need a cleansing shower.

  18. Watching the golf from China. Not that long ago the people had nothing.now its a rich country. Here in Britain Foodbanks says it all.the rich get richer.the poor well are still

Poor.why does the majority of people in this country allow these rich people policy’s to happen.maybe the answers is we just look after our own selfish ways.

  19. For the moment there is some cloud cover over Hampden but the sun is threatening to break through….

  20. BSR @ 09:46,

Like that team, a few have said we need Efe, to deal with the physicality of ICT – I say play the footballers.

Also not sure how good Stephan is on the left, but I know if we’re playing James it’s got to be on the right – right.

    On Craig Gordon

His save on Wed night was jawdroppingly superb,The Killie player had his hands on his head in disbelief for nearly a minute, he just couldn’t believe Craig did what he did to stop a goal.

Was sitting behind the goal with Marspapa clan and neither could I,what a signing he has been.

  26. Morning folks,

    BSR,

Like the look of your team. Only change for me would be for Guidetti start up front with Griffiths. Maybe leave out Commons.
