90 minute treble tightrope

789

Did we get a fright at Inverness last week?  That’s probably overplaying it a bit, but we didn’t get our own way against a team who have already overachieved this season and are more than capable of raising their game for the big occasion.

This is a team who will have no fears of facing Celtic.  They have a manager who will arrive at Hampden tomorrow with a plan to win the game.

John Hughes will not be the only one with such a plan.  Ronny Deila knows this game is the most important on the roster between now and the end of the season.  Only a potential Scottish Cup Final would be a bigger game.  Without wanting to be disrespectful of Aberdeen’s title push, which is an arithmetical challenge only, we are two wins away from winning the treble, and Inverness are the only top flight team who are able to stop us.

It we do achieve a treble this season it will be our first in 14 years.  Martin O’Neill’s triumph in 2001 was our only one in 46 years, so we have to wait a long time for these occasions.  Unfortunately, it takes only 90 minutes to extinguish the opportunity.  A few refereeing decisions the right way and Dundee United had us in a vulnerable place in the last round.  Without absolute concentration the same could happen tomorrow and the remainder of our season would take on an exhibition-game feel.

Feeling a bit nervous now.

Keep your eye on Kris Commons, he loves Hampden.

  1. When I was about seventeen I backpacked through Ireland. In Sligo had a beer or three with a young guy called Sean Savage. Long time ago but the face looks familiar. Just a normal young Irishman. State murder.

Herbo hope you are right mate and the hoops run riot. A trebel with style will be a rate thing.

  2. I think Ronny will be in their heeds for weeks telling them to go out in style. He wants it, and our lacklustre performances I think might have something to do with that.

I have a theory that Ronny has been pssn about wi the team to get them right up for the run in. Starting at Hampden in 10 hours. I think he’s playin a blinder. There’s been places up for grabs. Celtic, I reckon, will go out with all guns blazing in 10 hours time. The big chaps at the back are all the security ye need.

I think we’re gonnay put on a show.

  6. Reasons to be confident

ICT haven’t won any of their last 7 games

They lost to Aberdeen, Partick Thistle and Motherwell.

Aberdeen is understandable, but the latter two are hardly high fliers.

Our previous semi final at Hampden was a 45 minute stroll and I anticipate a similar game tomorrow. An early goal to settle us and then we take control with Brown, Bitton and Johansen having their way with the ICT midfielders.

The wide open spaces of Hampden will suit our high intensity, hard pressing game and we will prove too fit, too clever and too classy for the Highlanders.

3-0 and cue rising expectations for midweek.

A Hampden semi-final for Celtic means going to my least favourite football stadium to see my one and only favourite football team.

Semi-final and final memories are mixed over recent seasons but today I am very optimistic that we will have learned from last week and that we’ll win by a comfortable margin today.

I’d be surprised to see us start 442 and believe Ronny will stick with 4231 with the 3 forward midfielders being under instructions to get wide and into the box as often as possible to creat nervousness in the ICT defence.

Busy day for the old shades family today.

Up to sunny Strathaven for a 10.30 kick off with wee shades team, then a mad dash to Hamdump for the semi final, be lucky to make the bloody kick off, last time I missed the kick off at the dump I also missed the only goal ( we won ).

Anyway would appreciate it if you would all leave me a parking space at the bottom of Menock Rd :-).

    H.H and 4 nil please.

Another hat trick for the Griffalo.

IF we take our chances i believe we will win by a few but as we saw yesterday with Hibs doing so is another thing.

Cheers, I will have a shilling or two on that, back to back hat-tricks is asking a lot but if the game was at Celtic Park the price would be half of that, I will settle for 1-0, any victory will do

Sun is shining and a semi-final in approx 4hrs

If the Griff does get a hat trick at the dump, that would be the fifth time I have seen a Celtic striker achieve that.

Waking up to a Beautiful Sunday morning a few miles from mount Florida

I am well aware we have had a fair few bad days at hampden but I feel that given all the relevant factors we will win today

Decent surface .. Big playing area .. Against a team who don’t like either .

A manager who is driven for success and in his first season a treble would be amazing

A squad who are hungry for success and with a competition for places each player is under healthy pressure to perform

A goalkeeper who has made an almost miraculous recovery after it looked like his career was over through injury . Despite the massive transfer fee to Sunderland he had won only one senior trophy with hearts so he has a big point to prove every time he pulls on the gloves

And a striker in Leigh griffiths who likes hampden and is on form and thriving on ronnys methods

Finally – not winning last week at Inverness might well be a positive as it takes away any chance of complacency

I’m sitting here thinking we can win this with a couple of goals to spare

One hour before the bus leaves for the game, bloody stupid time for a cup semi to kick off. And they wonder why folk are not going to the games!

  20. Any kind of victory does today. ICT will park the bus and be very physical. Last week they played with 11 men in their own third off the park for 80% of the game. We , players and fans will need to be patient. I would take 1 nil all day long and the final at end of May will make this game a distant memory.
