Abject failure of leadership

1038

After they hatched their plan to blackmail Scottish Football League clubs into voting Newco into the First Division, Stewart Regan, Neil Doncaster and David Longmuir might have paused to wonder what reaction they would receive.

You better believe they didn’t anticipate the reaction today from Clyde and Raith Rovers.  Rovers chairman, Turnbull Hutton, told BBC Scotland’s Jim Spence, “If we are at the stage of bending rules and accommodating, threatening and blackmailing, we want to give it up.”

“Bending rules… threatening… blackmailing…we want to give it up”.

Hutton went on to suggest heads should roll at the SFL, SFA and SPL.  He’s the first from within the football establishment to call for sackings but he’ll not be the last.

An extensive statement by Clyde FC concluded, “The papers include a proposal to allow a Newco to enter the 1st Division. This is contrary to the rules of the SFL and nothing within the papers justifies this proposal.”

Regan, Doncaster and Longmuir will now be contemplating that their bully-boy tactics will fail. SLF clubs will vote against their recommendations and SPL clubs will not stop promotion from the lower leagues based on merit.  It looks like abject failure of leadership.

    Doc..,

I did follow the whole conversation and I found his submissions very similar to the failed msm offerings, I must admit I begun to twitch when he put the teams in the traditional msm order, rangers and Celtic, I let it go, which wasnt easy if you know me :o)

But the insistence that the teams failure w purely down to not being good enough was too far IMO hence a single example of how Cetic had absolutely no say in the destination of the titles they won. All three seasons were littered with similiar decisions he refused to countenance.

sftb-I put up the squad stats mate,i think the 48 inc youth players who are full time.I think we all agree that we need quality rather than quantity but need to chase a few and keep numbers to compete in the 4 competitions.HH.

I didn’t agree with all of Stephbhoys point, but I didn’t find them anti Celtic. Some I agreed with, some not. Just opinions.

Stephbhoy wasn’t personal nor offensive, so I would happily converse in the future.

In addition to the 34 first team names names on the official site, we list 22 u-19s including 4 duplicate names (the Twardziks, McGeoch & Watt) common to both lists.

That gives us 52 names by my reckoning, though I suggest Rasmussen, Murphy and Thompson may soon depart and bring us under the 50 mark.

I do not know if any of those 50 or so names are not full time though I doubt it. It would be interesting to have factual comparisons of how many are employed by other clubs such as Man U, WBA, Hearts, or Middlesborough to give us a bench mark on this.

Kevtic- You missed Juarez out of your list

    bada….,

I stopped after we mad all that noise about objecting to being lumped in as old firm supporters, it wasnt that long ago, thought maybe some might remember, obviously not, just to remind you, there was a growing grounswell objecting to the board renewing the association, round about the time of threatened bhoycott and the meetings being held to bring the support together, for me it was objectionable I’d had enough.

At the time there were plenty of objectors and discussion on how it could be replaced, the objectiona were not taken seriously and thats that, I made my decision, I could not support a board who were happy to call me an old firm fan end of for me.

This story is stunning. There are at least three threads to it; each of which is a once-in-a-century headline in its own right.

The crimes of the past; the extraordinary efforts of governing authorities to absolve; and the question of what the present incumbents intentions – and chances – are.
