BBC turn tanks on our hero Craig

768

BBC investigative journalist, Mark Daly, has shown remarkable fortitude in pursuing Craig Whyte, but it’s clear to any unbiased observer that our hero is totally innocent of the serious allegation levelled at him.  Yesterday, Reporting Scotland suggested Whyte may have committed perjury in the witness box at Glasgow Sheriff Court in December last year in a case involving the supply of roofing materials.

Craig handled the second question on his disqualification as a company director, “You can’t remember why you were banned for seven years?” pitch perfectly.

He said, “Well, I’m not going to say in open court and get it wrong.”

This was a good answer, a very good answer.  Saying something wrong in open court is not what our man wants to do.

It was the third question that those pesky BBC types have tried to make trouble over: “Was it anything to do with the treatment of creditors?”

To which Craig replied, “No.”

One insignificant, two-letter, word that people are trying to build into something more than it is.  If only he’d kept to the simple, “I’m not going to say in open court and get it wrong” reply, none of this perjury nonsense would be raised.

Now we have the messy business of a sheriff, currently deliberating the roofing materials case based on the evidence presented, being interrupted by all this rubbish.  Have you any idea how complicated it becomes for a sheriff to discharge his duties when perjury is publicly being alleged (incorrectly, I may add) before he has even reached his verdict?  He’s left in a very difficult position and will not be pleased.

Last night Craig’s spokesman gave you the truth, saying the BBCs latest hatchet job was “a variation on what the BBC already alleged in a documentary riddled with inaccuracies and falsehoods”.

The BBC also published extracts of a written judgement of a trial at the Royal Courts of Justice Companies Court from 2000 which saw Craig’s seven year ban imposed after he put a company into liquidation.

Inaccuracies and falsehoods – and the guy, fair-minded that he is, didn’t even grab the opportunity to have another day in court, this time against the broadcaster.  I’d love to see you take them on, Craig.  Keep up the good work.

In case you missed the note from yesterday…. If you are on Facebook or Twitter you can use the share button below each comment to post your contributions to your social media accounts. You can also use it to share, or give prominence to, any comment you think enjoyable enough for a wider audience.

Finally, Celtic fan, Billy Connolly, has been in the news recently so I thought we would give a spin to one of his early works. Apologies for the mild use of colourful language. Firm apologies to Strathclyde Police, who are the subject of some fun here but who I hold in the highest esteem (I’m serious at this part), and just for the record, the following song is a gentle poke at the authorities honesty in court and in no way related to persons mentioned anywhere on Celtic Quick News.

I read them all (I think) many years ago. Great stories. Thought The Keys of the Kingdom was the best.

Contrast that with some of the critically acclaimed guff of recent years.

Have you ever read something with Freedom in the title by M Frantzen? If not, don’t even think about it.

  2. Tonight is the first time I have heard pundits on Clyde make very clear and emphatic declarations that Rangers should be punished if the Tax Tribunal goes against them.

They stated that if it does go against them it will be proven that they gained an unfair advantage between 2000 and 2008 by spending tax money on players while every other club in Scotland paid it’s taxes and cut it’s cloth.

I really don’t think they have though this through. Pandora’s box is opening. If Rangers choose liquidation as a result of the tax case then Rangers FC will cease to be. It will be an ex-football club.

What punishment can be placed upon an ex-football club?

They may argue, when the back peddling begins, that going into liquidation is punishment enough. However, liquidation is a choice made from within, not a punishment imposed. At that juncture, no punishment will have been applied by the SPL or the SFA for the unfair advantage gained.

Therefore, the question remains – what punishment can be placed upon an ex-football club?

As it no longer exists, no punishment can be applied in the here-and-now nor in the future. Therefore, the only punishment which can be made is retrospective. As the unfair advantage was gained in the past, the only action available to the SPL and the SFA is to negate that unfair advantage by stripping the ex-football club of all trophies acquired during the period it was operating with an unfair advantage.

Allowing Rangers FC to retain the trophies it acquired during this period would be the ultimate betrayal of sporting fair play.

Watch the backtracking by Dalziel once this is pointed out to him. Spiers will probably acknowledge that they should be stripped of the trophies if they fail to pay HMRC what they are due, as the argument is compelling and without credible counter. Dalziel’s mind isn’t set to credible though, so he’ll just want to talk about football….

And then there is Hearts….does it get any better? Stay safe tomorrow night bhoys and ghirls…..you know what they are like through there.

    Jelly and Ice Cream tonight.

I would go with same 11 – one thing that confused me on Saturday : I was watching on the box and it looked as though we were 4312, with commons having a free role when we attacked, but when ICT had possession it was a conventional 442 .

Can you or others clarify ?

Do you, I would go with the same starting XI, was thinking to myself on Saturday that perhaps Neil had that in mind a wee bit. For all James Forrest has had a fantastic season, I would not start him in places like Inverness or swinecastle…

My prediction 0-3, not sure who will score but I fancy Brozek to come off the bench and get the third.

Graham Spiers is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. He tries to present himself as a reasonable and concerned sports journalist and as the acceptable face of the Scottish sports writing fraternity who are no more than hacks or as the English Sports writers called them in the 60s and 70s ‘supporters with typewriters’.

Spiers is more articulate than most of the MSM, however, to me he is one of the worst. I still believe he was one of the first to boot the boot into Neil Lennon after the Shame Game last year. After the preliminaries on the SSB Phone in the following night he was the first to speak “What on earth got into Neil Lennon last night?” He went on about Neil’s snarling attitude and totally airbrushed McCoist’s behaviour.

It is a total act this feigned concern for the good of Scottish football in his repeated support of Rangers being allowed straight into the SPL. He does say, “Yes if found guilty on the tax case they deserve to be punished” but then stoutly refuses to explore what that punishment might be and that it could entail them being totally removed from the Scottish scene as a consequence. He usually resorts straight away to restate his support for RFC being allowed into SPL.

When asked about RFC’s trophies during the EBT years being taken away from them he said ‘I’m not in favour of that’. Why not Graham? Don’t you believe in fairness and justice? Or can you not stomach the fact that the League titles will be awarded to Celtic as a result of RFC having cheated and given themselves an unfair advantage. After all, they have already enjoyed the trappings of the success (European Football) they so unfairly and undeservedly gained.

Graham Spiers – he should come with a health warning and don’t be fooled by his weasel words.

Only went back as far as ’84 – both Aberdeen and Utd reached semi-finals that year. 88, the orcs reached the qtrs and of course the previous season, Utd reached the Uefa final.

Regarding ’83, Aberdeen won the Runners Up Cup, Utd reached the Uefa QFs and Celtic, marginally failed (odd goal in five) to reach the QFs of The Big Cup

  17. A quick summary of RC tonight;

Graham “for the good of the game” Spiers; hunz must be punished. Demotion? Hell, no! Tainted titles stripped? Oh, no! How about a wee asterisk against last few titles.

    So, that’s it then guys!

Next season the 5 stars will be replaced by 6 asterisks!

Gordon ” I agree with the caller 100%” Deeyell totally agreed.

    So, that’s that sorted then!

  21. I just had a look there to see which Celtic 11 started against Hearts when we lost 2 nil at Tynecastle on 2nd October:

    Forster

    Matthews

    Majstorovic

    Mulgrew

    El Kaddouri

    Forrest

    Ki

    Wanyama

    Commons (red carded)

    Bangura

    Hooper

At that time Dan was going through a rough patch.

El Kaddouri was gash and not fit for purpose.

Ki was and has been inconsistent (and not one for a midfield battle)

Wanyama was starting only his third game of the season and was yet to establish himself.

    Commons got sent off.

Bangura got a start and never really looked the part.

    Times have changed.

    My team tomorrow would be:

    Forster

    Matthews

    Rogne

    Wilson K

    Mulgrew

    Forrest

    Brown

    Wanyama

    Ledley

    Samaras

    Hooper

    2 nil the hoops tomorrow.

    Paul67,

A tremendous site you have, work friend dropped the CQN name a good while ago now and Ive been a lurker ever since. I felt now was the right time to break the mould and contribute myself. These are indeed great days to be a Celtic supporter, only eclipsed by the memories of a decade ago and for the priveleged among us the Stein era. I know i am not the only one who feels something huge is coming our way, a period of success that we have not felt for a while. Granted it may in part be down to our unfortunate (smug grin) neighbours imminent demise but that should not detract from the fact that we have a squad and a manager who are getting better by each month.

Which brings me onto my point. We all understand the current economic struggles everyone is enduring but I have been keeping an eye on our home attendances since we started our unbeaten run and what I have noticed is not much of an increase in home attendances. We currently have an average of 49,000 for home gates. This is a bit surprising considering our form in the last few months, allied to what is happening to the orcs and has me a bit baffled.

If we are on an unbeaten run, our arch rivals are hanging onto their survival with whats left of their fingertips and their dignity, why is it our attendances are not rising? Can it all be down to the economic climate?

I’m not worried tho, all we need to watch out for is anybody with one long eyebrow. They may try to disguise this by pulling their tammy low, in which case you can still identify them by the fact that their eyes are positioned below their nostrils.
