Be afraid Rangers, be very afraid

914

Do you remember the Green and Whitewash season?  In 2003-04 Celtic dominated the league.  After drawing their opening game away to Dunfermline they won their next 25 consecutive league games, beating every team in the league home and away.  Across all competitions, they beat Rangers five times in four league and a Scottish Cup meeting.

This was as dominant as a team could get but there were vulnerabilities.  Not only was Henrik Larsson out of contract, much of that team were in the twilight of their careers.  Paul Lambert, Neil Lennon, Alan Thompson and Chris Sutton would never command the same on-field fear again.

The team that completed nine league wins in a row on Wednesday night could not be more different from the 03-04 vintage in one important aspect; only four are older than 23-years-old and none of them are veterans: Brown, 26, Samaras, 26, Mulgrew, 25 and Ledley, 24.

With an average age of just over 22 years this team will continue to improve for years; we can see evidence of progress.  James Forrest has made a huge step up in form from last season.  Victor Wanyama is almost unrecognisable from the player who arrived in the summer.  Big Fraser, 23, still young for a keeper, inspires a lot more confidence than he did last season, and the baby of the team, Adam Matthews, is a scarcely believable 19-years-old. He’s so new to this environment you have to wonder if even the lad’s father knew he had a performance like Wednesday night’s in him.

Ki, 22, Stokes, 23, Izaguirre, 25, Kelvin Wilson, 26 and Mikael Lustig, 25 all fit the same profile.  They are a squad full of improving players with the appetite you only get when your career is in front of you.

Rangers, and the rest, should be very afraid. Wednesday night might be as close as they get to the coattails of the young Celts.

  1. On Dec 1st Scottish FA Chief Executive Stewart Regan:

“The Scottish FA has noted the Rangers FC statement to the stock exchange regarding the club’s owner Craig Whyte.

“We have been in dialogue with the club on this matter and in light of today’s developments have requested clarification by return. We await disclosure of key information before we can make any further comment.”

I guess we are all still waiting and that no Journalist has had the time to follow up the story!

Your appearances on the blog co-incide with poor results.

Fortunately we are now on a winning run which provides the added bonus of not having to listen to your half -baked, inane drivel.

No doubt, like the proverbial bad smell you will be back as soon as we hit a blip on the road.

A great idea. After all, the huns have their own station on 810 medium wave. I cannot bear to listen to shortbread but there is often no other option. Pre-match, during match, after match they are virulently anti-Celtic.

    Anafternoon fellow Tims

    Roccobhoy needs help!

Any1 have a log in to Kerrydale Strret? Reason I ask is, I’ve just been on followfollow and they are running a thread about log in’s for other football forums. 1 guy posted that he has a log in for Kerrydale street. He also posted his login name. Now the danger is he could be at it, and could know the person he claims to be on Kerrydale street. In other words he could be wanting to get the person ( a genuine Tim ) who posts under the name he claims to have, into trouble! Alternatively, the bloke could be stupid enough to not realise there are lurking Tims on fascist fascist!

Am obviously reluctant to post his log in name invade he is at it!

    Hail Hail

    Roccobhoy

    ……….

I’m on KDS, FF has plenty of KDS members who log in to view. One of them will I’m sure have informed one of the mods about this. But i’ll PM one of them when I get home and let them know as well. Whats the initials of the login name?

  5. I asked earlier on who it was the Hun players were backslapping and talking to halfway down the tunnel on their way out for the 2nd half. A number of players looking overly friendly with the person in the darkness of the tunnel, especially the Huns no.18 Carlos Boconegra.

After watching the 2nd half and checking the 4th officials attire at the substitutions it looks to me that the players were being too friendly with the 4th official. Unfortunately the link does not show the Celtic players coming out to determine if the same friendliness was shown towards them.

Kitalba’s YouTube link to 2nd half.

greenjedi. Celtic radio I like it but would like more than an 8 mile radius. H.H

    ……..

The 8 mile radius is a rule, it for stations to broadcast to a specific area only. It meant to be a local local radio station

FB are the initials mate. B is not Bhoy though.

Also another posted gave his login name for a Celtic forum but never mentioned which forum. His initials are KB, the B being Bhoy.

    Hail Hail

  8. stephbhoy. Just a question from your interesting post what in your opinion should Celtic be doing to jncrease the leisure/pleasure for the supporters?

    – win every game 5-0.

Maks sense tae me, and it maks sense tae Mo.

  9. Steinreignedsupreme

Well it might only be a matter of time with McMoist – He seems to think Jelavic won’t be sold – this might be a sticking point. If I’m being too faithful in one man’s prowess then perhaps I should reassess.

Bangura’s first touch and overall ability in the time he’s had on the park for me hasn’t exactly blown me away. I saw him for the first time in the flesh the other day and he clooks clueless. Harsh perhaps but I think we’d both agree, the jury is most definitely out.

I don’t believe we signed the wrong Bangura but I do think there was an element of going for the cheaper option over Diawarra which may or may not prove a fruitless chase come January.

If it is merely a case of the work permit excu8se being valid, I’ll hold my hand up and say I was wrong and misled or chose to believe a man who was wrong but as I say, jury definitely out.

I don’t know if Paul67 is 100% correct in his summation. I cannot speak for Paul67 and I am not privy to his information. I only go by stories I’ve heard on here and others throughout my lifetime – accept the rumours charge but remain to be convinced as I do not know the whole story. None of these stories can be confirmed but it is hard to argue that them upstairs haven’t had an influence – Roy and Robbie Keane AND Daryl Murphy may have been approved by the manager but I personally believe some of this was in part foisted onto the managers in each case.

The stories don’t go away and they cannot all be nonsense.

The old board simply didn’t give managers who they wanted at times which we accept so upstairs interference has happened.

Do you think interference has never happened?

Anyone think if we sign Kris Boyd and Cueller it would be like watching New co.Rangers ? ;- ) H.H.

  11. No one really knows the signing process.

Hard to believe Lawell would not have some influence with position he holds.

If we criticise him for failures like Hooiveld we should praise him for Izzy.

Not a fan of him but he is only following orders.

  12. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-16360934

Novel way to deal with fan on pitch violence….

By the way folks, would just add a bit of caution to current assessment of where we’re at. If we’re still there at t’business end then we will have a lot to celebrate, including the undoubted young talent in the team. Personally still think the strongest asset Lennon has shown is the ability to pick a player (with one or two exceptions!)

  13. Joe Fillipi’s Haircut

Boyd and Cellar are a pair of diddies who looked decent in spl thanks to their brothers in black.

One’s scoring record was enhanced by penalties and lines men unwilling to raise flags.

The other was aided by adjusting the rules to allow plowing into back of opponents tripping and shirt pulling with impunity.

Neither should get into Celtic park without a ticket.

i have manange to get along to several games this season and every time a go to a celtic game i tend to make a day of it, you know go for a meal/ drink before or after game usually to the tune of 30 + pounds, but on the occassions i have made it i have went along with a few other lads 30X3 =90 pounds, but that money went to another company, not because i wished to spend my money there, no, because celtic dont offer me the opportunity to spend it in their bar/ restaurant/ cafe.

i also tend to go out for a meal at least once per fortnight, unplanned most times, a few special occasions have seen me book tables at 67, but this is limited if i want to just pop in any given day, again my money is given to another.

i was in celtic superstore at celtic park (non match days) about 10 times this year, could i give celtic my money when i wanted to sit down and have lunch a soft drink. no

celtic museum open 5 days a week 2 maybe 3 tours every day yet the visitors have to walk accross the car park to get to celtic store, see barca, edinburgh zoo for details on getting people to buy before leaving, tour ends in store not that hard. same problem as before

basic stuff that should be on offer for you and me and good for business.

we are living in the 21st centuary but celtic akin to most football clubs cant/ dont diversify

every second week 45,000 – 55,000 fans decend on celtic park many come early few stay for long before going into local pubs/ clubs to spend money i ‘am sure they would rather give to their club, throw in midweek games, supporters functions, christmas etc… potential earning is huge but untapped.

2 celtic rangers, 3 next gem games under-19 games have 3,000 – 8,000 fans at celtic park, same problems

how many of our fans or those with an affection for celtic come to scotland every year, yet we direct them to local hotels wtf… we need to use our name/ brand to step into the 21st centuary.

know guys on here have talked about the need to improve celtic t.v. etc…. really the list of what we could do is endless

we could be a huge club, even playing in scotland would not hold us back, no more if onlys.
