Bitter sweet accounts

1056

Detail in our annual accounts for the year to 30 June 2014, released yesterday, are bitter sweet.  It was a good year financially but the successes were underpinned by qualification for the Champions League.  This season’s revenue will be lucky to rise much above £50m, from last season’s £64m.

I see lots of comment on Peter Lawwell’s £400k bonus.  The key figure to concentrate on executive pay is the basic (in this case £524k), not the bonus.  Celtic executive pay, including manager, chief exec and scouts, should heavily incentivise qualification for the Champions League.  If we’re in the Champions League, all other objectives become possible.  Failure to qualify brings a range of risks; so the execs should feel the pain of failure in the pocket.

Basic pay should be appropriate for the work (this goes for all staff at the club, of course), but there is ample room to incentivise everyone, from executives, to kiosk staff, to stewards, on club performance or service objectives, as appropriate.  Would doing so tackle many of the stewarding and service issues we see regularly? Would be interesting to find out.

  1. Lennybhoy,

Going by reports Scepovic and griff had a decent game for the development squad through the week.

Guidetti looks a real live wire but Thursday has got to be in the plans too. HH

  2. The Battered Bunnet on

Great to catch up with some old pals – Oldtim, BT, Kit – and some new ones – Praecepta, Ritchie amongst other CQN finery – over a sneaky wee pint earlier.

    Cheers fellas.

  3. Interesting reading some of the posts recently and the comments regarding the big drop in attendances at Celtic Park. When Fergus Mc.Cann did such a magnificent job in his rebuild of Parkhead making it one of the biggest stadiums in these islands no doubt he did not forsee the monster that SKY would make of the English Premier League and how it has affected not only the SPL but other former strongholds of football in Europe.. Maybe he also had ambitions of seeing Celtic moving south or to a European league.which of course may still happen, after many of us have gone to the happy hunting ground. Is Celtic Park too big?

Really looking forward to the ROI v Scotland next month and it should be a cracker and the Glenn Whelan – Scott Brown matchup sparks will fly.. Great weekend of sport coming up let’s hope the Hoops rediscover how to put the ball in the net, Ronny can’t do it for them.

  4. Point is starry they shouldn’t have been allowed to.

Rules say you have to have 3 players away they didn’t., also moshni was suspended. So only the other centre half was away.

Cowdenbeath appealed, no surprise, as per, the authorities stuck with Sevco

If pl is getting a bonus of 420 grand what in the name of moravcik is the 500 grand for?

PL drives the team bus; is head of scouting; heats the pies and is the main drummer for the GB…

When have the rules ever applied to that lot, the authorities have rubber-stamped their narrative and are ramming it down everyones throat..

  7. Watching David Forde the ROI goalkeeper against the Germans, the guy was a revelation despite the fact that he plays with lowly Millwall. Forde makes a mockery of the theory that players from a lower tier of football can’t step up to the plate when on the World stage.

  8. How did that Dermot Desmond and that other one O’Brien

    ever become multi billionaires.

They should have come on CQN and the gurus would have

Advised them on where they were going wrong.

  9. RD continues to play one man upfront again and loses tomorrow then what can you say? Ok the guy has a philosophy, but his remit is to win football matches, and he can’t keep losing to journeymen filled dross

  10. It’s probably just the 3G pitch (isn’t wi-fi great) but this game is certainly end to end stuff.

As it stands, I’m down 40p. Disaster ;-)

  11. Our season kick starts tomorrow.

    4 targets for RD

1 Top of the league by Jan 1st

2 Beat Thistle in the LC

3 European football in the new year.

    4 Play 2 strikers.

by not investing in celtic ?

  14. My friends in Celtic,

We had a chuckle ” Visible Pie stalls ” at the Accies game.

Sevco have a “full” management team savouring the game.

    HH.

PS : Reading back Lilly’s, ref PL, agree 100%.

  15. Starry,

    Lol

    Lennybhoy,

I think we’ll see both guidetti and Scepovic play together soon. JG looks like he can play well outside the box.

  16. Hey Butsybhoy

Been to Tesco with Paddy Bhoy.

Stocked up with food and liquid.

Looking forward to seeing you. I hear that lightweight pal of ours Chunky has bailed out.

  17. Corals

    Virgil 6/1

Broonie 7/1 to score anytime in 90mins tomorrow

I plumped for broonie so get yer tank on virgil :))))).

    good night all

wee mhan sitting tonight and Mam sitting tomorrow .

  18. Apologies for not yet creating a set of KDI’s yet for PL

(Incidentally the board should be doing so every year prior to any new finance year starting)

This holiday malarkey and 30 Degree heat is torture, Nae time for anything, anyway done Ma back in, and have had to get a taxi into St George’s ( Capital of Grenada) for a chemist and some treatment for such

Anyway, before I set out some KDI’s – TBB can you confirm season ticket sales above 43k ? If so outstanding, Growth in this area would have been 1 of the objectives, I thought I had read it was down to 38k

    Hail Hail

  19. Stairheedrammy on

Accies playing the same as they did against us, constant pressing and breaking fast, obviously well coached in this. They are getting away with murder regarding their fouling, Goodwillie was clattered 5 times by the same CH before the ref even spoke to him, Courier holds the ball well but couldn’t his a coos erse with a banjo and that wee fud Imrie just winds me up. I watched BBC news earlier re the state of Scottish Football, wonder why they chose the leagues newest club to base their reporting around?
