BRENDAN IN THE BEGINNING: HOW THE LEAGUE CUP WAS WON

0

BRENDAN RODGERS guided the Hoops to their 3-0 League Cup Final success over Aberdeen on November 27 2016 with the club achieving historic acclaim at Hampden.

The players were hailed as Celtic Centurians after they picked up their 100th piece of major silverware in a thoroughly well-merited and professional manner as they dismantled the Dons.

Rodgers beamed brightly as he won his first trophy as manager of his boyhood idols.

Jaunty and rejuvenated James Forrest was in the thick of the action as he scored a magnificent second goal and was felled in the box for a penalty-kick which brought the third goal for Moussa Dembele.

DELIGHT AND DESPAIR…James Forrest races away in triumph after leaving keeper Joe Lewis and his Aberdeen defenders in disarray as he notches the second goal at Hampden.

The breakthrough strike was claimed by Tom Rogic in the 16th minute wo eased and teased his way in from the right onto his favoured left foot and, from the edge of the box, he curled a sublime low effort beyond the searching fingers of the despairing Joe Lewis.

Forrest then doubled the advantage in the 37th minute following a mesmerising slalom run at the back-tracking defence before finishing with a flashing drive.

The third arrived in the 64th minute after Anthony O’Connor had sent the winger sprawling and Dembele made no mistake.

What a way to celebrate becoming Ton-Up Bhoys.

TEAM: Gordon; Lustig, Simunovic, Sviatchenko, Izaguirre; Brown, Armstrong; Roberts (sub: Bitton 65), Rogic (sub: McGregor 76), Forrest (sub: Griffiths 90); Dembele.
