SPECULATION that Scott Brown could be in the running for the Hibs manager’s job has finally come to an end.

The Easter Road club issued a statement this morning confirming the appointment of Nick Montgomery as their new boss on a three-year contract.

The 41-year-old head coach has left Aussie outfit Central Coast Mariners to replace Lee Johnson, who was sacked two weeks ago.

Ironically, the axed gaffer has just been handed the post at Fleetwood Town which was vacated by Brown on September 3, as CQN reported.

ONFIELD LEADER…Scott Brown who was at Celtic for 14 years.

The ex-Celtic skipper, who had been 15 months at the club in his first managerial role, left the third-tier side following five defeats in six league games.

Brown, 38, was linked with a sensational return to his former Leith club, where he played for four years before his record-breaking £4.4million switch to the Hoops in the summer of 2007, but that door has now closed for the one-time Scotland international skipper who has already stated he wants to continue in the game at that level.

Yorkshire-born Montgomery will be assisted by Portuguese coach Sergio Raimundo, while Miguel de Oliveira Miranda joins as goalkeeping coach, having both worked with him at Australian side. David Gray will remain as a first-team coach.

His first match will be against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Saturday.
