CELTIC EYE £1m GERMAN DEFENDER

CELTIC have been linked with £1million-rated German defender Moritz Jenz, of Lausanne-Sport.

The 22-year-old utility star – who is accomplished at right-back and central defence – is under contract until June 2023, but the Swiss club may consider allowing him to move on with the player attracting interest elsewhere.

And the Hoops are reported to be one of the clubs who are keeping tabs on the situation as Ange Postecoglou continues his much-needed summer revamp of the squad.

Sources in Switzerland claim Jenz is set to be sold by Lausanne-Sport, according to the Scottish Sun.

HOOPS TARGET…versatile German defender Moritz Jenz.

Swedish international Carl Starfelt has agreed his £4.5million move from Russian club Rubin Kazan just as Kristoffer Ajer said farewell in a £13.5million switch to Premier League newcomers Brentford.

However, Postecoglou is still searching for another centre-back with Christopher Jullien, who has not played this year, likely to remain on the sidelines until October, at least.

With Nir Bitton suspended for the return Champions League qualifier against FC Midtjylland in Denmark and the score balanced at 1-1, the manager may be forced to start with a rookie partnership of Stephen Welsh, 21, and 18-year-old Dane Murray.

The Hoops are also crying out for cover in the No.2 position after the January departures of Jeremie Frimpong to Bayer Leverkusen and Hatem Abd Elhamed to Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

Anthony Ralston, who is now in the final year of his contract, is the only recognised right-sided defender at the club at the moment.

The versatility of Jenz, who joined the Swiss club from the Fulham Under-23 side last summer, could hasten a move from Postecoglou.
