Celtic League of Nations

937

It is worth more than a passing observation that in yesterday’s game Celtic had players from 11 different countries in the starting line-up:

England, Sweden, Honduras, Scotland, Nigeria, Netherlands, Finland, Israel, Ireland, Greece and Wales.

Recruitment came from clubs in 7 different league structures:

England (3) and Wales, Scotland, Norway, Honduras, Israel (2), Netherlands and Germany.

There were a further four different nationalities on the bench.

Of the starting line-up only Fraser Forster is not a full international, although that is surely only a matter of time, but Fraser is the only player we have from a large football nation, perhaps an indication that it is more difficult to recruit nationals from England, Germany, Italy, France and Spain than elsewhere.

The signing of Emilio Izaguirre from Honduras three years ago came two years after the player’s representatives had him on trial in England.  It’s likely Emilio’s CV was in every mailbox in the British game, so I doubt we have much of an infrastructure in Central America.

Celtic have obviously matured links in Israel recently, Beram Kayal and Efe Ambrose have delivered value, while Nir Biton fits the profile of the player Celtic should be looking for.  Embedding relationships in similar markets offers a higher likelihood of value – and therefore football development – than taking our chance on the mainstream British and European circuits.

Prize to anyone who can point to Guinea-Bissau (Amido Balde’s country of birth and location of a Sporting Lisbon-associate club) on the map. There is a lot of work to do to catch up with the Portuguese.

  2. Re my flouncing clique at 16.10 I wish to advise that the fact, I am going to Torremolinos for a week and that Mrs. corkcelt said she would give me a kick in the baws if she found me posting on CQN is entirely coincidental and I would deem it disgraceful if this information was used to the detriment of my clique.

I hang about with a group of CQN ers , we are in our mid 40s and go out to 80’s club reliving our youth – we are the BEZIQUE clique …

  4. kitalba@13.22

“Are you trying to tell me there is no clique on here?

Are you telling me that the person who complained was not from the clique.

Why am I not part of it?

Because I hate cliques. I don’t own a crucifix and I don’t own a CQN badge, original or not.

I deliberately go out of my way to distance myself from them and those who populate them. Ever since I started wiping my own bum I realised I could do it without assistance.

I even learned to tie my own shoe laces without committee.

There has been a clique on here since before I started posting, and to be honest, I would not bad mouth any of them. I have an affection, a manly affection, for all of them.

But to deny it exists, then to me that is less than what I held you.

So Paul67 says one person complained and yet canamalar gets banned, on the strength of one complaint.

If I remember rightly I called you a prick the other night for sticking your nose in, how come I’m not banned?”

Just back in and catching up Kit.

I’ll try to deal with your points in turn.

Is there a clique? I honestly don’t know. It’s a question that would benefit from a definition of terms. The dictionary says it is a group of people who “interact with each other more regularly and intensely than others in the same setting”. By that definition you and I, as regular and long term CQNrs, might be thought to be part of the clique but that cannot be the definition you were thinking of.

By stating that you were a non-badge bying, crucifix wearing, lone wolf, independent, maverick, Clint Eastwood figure, you answered the question “why am I not part of it” (while omitting to respond to the question Why is SFTB not part of it? so I may infer that you consider me to be in a clique of which I am unaware. How did you find out about this while I remained ignorant?). Does one have to possess both a crucifix and a badge or is one only sufficient for membership?

Your next paragraph suggests that you think the clique, whoever they are, require more comfort and assistance from each other than you, personally, do. I am beginning to wonder by now whether I have unconsciously been enrolled in the masons. But since one of the qualities you extol is the ability to wipe your own bum, I can claim, and offer my underpants as evidence, to not fulfill the criteria for full membership of this shitty-panted Masonic clique that holds sway on CQN. My shoe laces are tied too, after a fashion, but I have seen some CQNrs wearing slip-ons so my antenna are up as to them being possible insiders.

You then suggest you have a manly afection for this shitty panted, masonic, slip-on wearing sect. Well, you’re a better man than me, for sure, as I don’t think I would want to hug them even if I did hold the ability you credit me with for knowing they exist.

And as for your last sentence , can I deal with the “sticking your nose in” bit before dealing with what may have been your main point? When you post on a public forum, what may start as an exchange between two, can quickly grow into a free for all. I am sure you have joined such discussions online in the past so I remain unsure where the pejorative nose-pushing comes from. Was I not in the clique that was involved with that discussion?

Finally, the “prick” comment. There was no complaint from me and nobody, I’d assume, cared enough either way to complain to Paul, for which I am grateful. Two posters tackled you directly about it online which is a more honest way of dealing with it ( though they may have been guilty of sticking noses in). I chose not to complain because, whilst I respect the poster making the allegation, I do not respect the allegation itself, therefore I chose not to take offence at someone who I felt was just going off on one. That, by the way, is not an invitation to try harder.

So, let’s cut to the chase. For this debate to go anywhere we need a definition of terms. What is the CQN clique? Is there only one? What are the characteristics and how does one join or opt out?

My own personal view is that there is no clique; there are just posters who imagine there is a party going on and they’re not invited. I think there may be people, or a person, who are/is treated more leniently than any regular intemperate offender (some of whom, I suspect, wear their temporary bans with pride) but, as I am not privy to the level of oversight that Paul has, I may think that but will never know for sure.

And I think I can live with that.

If you doubt if you follow my posts as far as I am concerned you don’t, the reason being I am for the resolution so try and keep up, AND if I have had something to say to anyone it is prob. In a replay what they have said to me, or then again it may just be my opinion of which I am allowed right? The resolution is a good one, but in the wrong hands of a poor messenger and his cronies, they are all board haters or PL haters bottom line, is I am pro. Board and PL and have made that very clear from the off, so you may join the line up of canamalars cabal, call me all the names you like doesent bother me one little bit, I have my opinion of which I am entitled to, and you have yours, HH.

That’s excellent, bud. Glad to know that.

You obviously realise that it isn’t an anti-board rant, but a serious attempt backed by serious people questioning the governance of the game.

Just at a wee bit of a loss as to why all your posts are so aggressive towards those you perceive to have a differing opinion to yours.

Bearing in mind I mentioned the difficulty of translating empathy in print as opposed to in person,I thought you might at least have made the effort.

You casually accuse others of aggressive posting, and of misinterpreting your intention to “have a word”‘as you put it.

    Is it any wonder?

I think you might consider how your words look in print before posting. As I said,I’m sure it isn’t your intention to come over the way you do.

I remember once upon a time that being in a CQN Clique was considered a “Cool Thang”

In the early 70s who did not read the early exploits of venerable (should that not be venereal? – edit.) posters like BSR, DBBIA etc adventures in the CQN Underground Comic “The Fabulous Furry Clique Brothers” published by Rip-Off Press! (Now there’s one for the teenagers on here) I believe to this day DBBIA still wears the same flares to every Celtic home match.

Who knows maybe CQN Cliques might make a comeback and be a power for good humour like the old days?

And remember “While you’re out there smashing the state, don’t forget to keep a smile on your lips and a song in your heart!”

In my opinion shareholders have a right to put forward a resolution and if accepted it will get a response from the board. However, everyone doesnt support the resolution and I for one wouldnt put my name to it. I think our board are doing a first class job of running our club and most posters on CQN myself included have no idea what it takes to run a huge business like Celtic. We are a profitable club with a great young manager and a great young team we are the Scottish Champions and we are a Champions league side.If somone wanted to put forward a resolution supporting the board and thanking them for there work I would be happy to support that.I dont understand why at times CQN is so negative ? if you or I had the skills to be on the Celtic board maybe we would be taken seriously but as I doubt there is anyone of us with the skills set to improve the Celtic Board I think we should appreciate the first class job the current board are doing.H.H.

The only clique I’ll admit to being in on here is the horse racing naps comp, although the less said about that the better! If people want to accuse others of belonging to certain perceived cliques, then I really wish they would name names….in other words, put up or shut up.

I’ve contacted P67 several times in the past about things I’ve seen posted which could get him into trouble or where I’ve felt someone has been completely out of line. The last time was a few weeks ago after someone posted links in an attempt to ‘out’ Canamalar and put up his identity. I don’t know if it’s one of Paul’s rules, but digging for info on someone is one thing….putting said info on the blog is another thing entirely! It’s cowardly and bang out of order.

Some posters have also made inferences questioning our host’s motives and the timing of Canamalar’s ban. If you really think so little of the guy, why on earth do you spend so much time on his blog?

Kit – thanks for the reminder about Kano. I haven’t written to him in a long time and Ramie said how much he enjoys hearing from his fellow CQNers. I’ll do something about that and hopefully others will do the same.

First off, apologies to Paul67 for not checking my spam properly and the division/mistrust created through that communication breakdown.

Second off, Rules is rules and when broken there is no excuse because somebody else done it and never got sanctioned makes it ok, I crossed a line with MrZ that could and should have been better handled, MrZ never took it any further and I thank him for that but obviously others have a lower threshold when it comes to being offended and they decided I had a case to answer, fair enough Paul67 agreed and that is all that matters.

Third off, I must admit I am chuffed about the number of people who did try and defend me and I’ve got to say my own reaction surprised me, maybe I do care after all :o)

The truth of the matter regarding the Celtic Board, is that we are well represented amongst the world’s established 1% financial elite.

The dichotomy of opinion starts when the core Celtic support voice their socialist values, as opposed to those that represent them at the highest level.
