Celtic League of Nations

937

It is worth more than a passing observation that in yesterday’s game Celtic had players from 11 different countries in the starting line-up:

England, Sweden, Honduras, Scotland, Nigeria, Netherlands, Finland, Israel, Ireland, Greece and Wales.

Recruitment came from clubs in 7 different league structures:

England (3) and Wales, Scotland, Norway, Honduras, Israel (2), Netherlands and Germany.

There were a further four different nationalities on the bench.

Of the starting line-up only Fraser Forster is not a full international, although that is surely only a matter of time, but Fraser is the only player we have from a large football nation, perhaps an indication that it is more difficult to recruit nationals from England, Germany, Italy, France and Spain than elsewhere.

The signing of Emilio Izaguirre from Honduras three years ago came two years after the player’s representatives had him on trial in England.  It’s likely Emilio’s CV was in every mailbox in the British game, so I doubt we have much of an infrastructure in Central America.

Celtic have obviously matured links in Israel recently, Beram Kayal and Efe Ambrose have delivered value, while Nir Biton fits the profile of the player Celtic should be looking for.  Embedding relationships in similar markets offers a higher likelihood of value – and therefore football development – than taking our chance on the mainstream British and European circuits.

Prize to anyone who can point to Guinea-Bissau (Amido Balde’s country of birth and location of a Sporting Lisbon-associate club) on the map. There is a lot of work to do to catch up with the Portuguese.

Shooorly yer not suggesting that the MSM and the SFA have rules regulations and procedures in place in the event of someone other than the chosen ones suffering the fate which befell them?

You know, like investigating after the event,or God forbid, digging into things in an investigative manner beforehand?

Naming guilty parties, joining dots, applying appropriate sanctions, that kinda thing?

I am sure that the lack of these things in the case of Rangers would have been exactly the same were any other club involved.

You might call it incompetence on the part of those Establishments I mentioned,I prefer to think of it as giving (the) peepul involved a chance to sort things out in the time-honoured fashion.

You are clearly a bigot, and have no place commenting anyway.

  2. Hi Bobby,

I’m good thank you, I hope you and yours are all well. I’m never going to cut the mustard here, I’ve got legs like one of Weefra’s chooks. It’s been really sad day on here, I love this place, it’s means so much to all of us is stating the obvious. I know and fully understand the issues and depths of feeling but it’s been horrible recently. I have my opinions but they’re better expressed by others.

Anyway after that dampener, the blog always eventually heals itself. And BSR’s lady (?) is probably a nice person but I’ve taken a right scunner to her for some reason!

P67 article today highlighting 14 diffrent nationalities turning out for Celtic yesterday is impressive, but that’s a relative judgement – you need to doff yer cap to what’s going on at Ibrox – their Manager is from a different planet and their fans are from a parallel universe…puts our achievements in to perspective, eh?

As someone who once met up with Canamalar for a few pints I would like to say he was great company, full of good humour and a passionate Celtic Man. I am sure that the majority of the posters on here would agree with me if they went for a pint with Canamalar.

Now on the other hand his devil dug i was a bit wary off as he kept growling at me anytime Canamalar went up to the bar to get a round, saying that I’m sure he’s more than a match for PL’s White Persian Cat that he strokes on his lap while plotting against Agent 0067 “Lawwell do you expect me to rescind my resolution?” “No Mr Canamalar I expect you to be banned!”

I’m sure you have no reason to be envious of anyone. Why should you be,yer in a happy and healthy relationship.

There are a fair few on here would envy that,I’m sure.

Aye,the blog can be prone to a bit of blood-letting at times, but even posters whose views are anathema to you can be educational sometimes.

My opinions are still pretty much as they were when I was so so much younger, but knowing why others hold different opinions to me wasn’t of the slightest importance to me back then.

    It is now.

As I have said before, dissent is healthy. IMO,of course.

Neil describes Amido as a baby in football terms and I can understand that,

Getting more confident of him making an impact for us as he gets better and according to Neil Amido is prepared to work hard , learn from the coaches and be patient waiting on his chances in the 1st team.

Seems to be coming along fine to me .

If you doubt if you follow my posts as far as I am concerned you don’t, the reason being I am for the resolution so try and keep up, AND if I have had something to say to anyone it is prob. In a replay what they have said to me, or then again it may just be my opinion of which I am allowed right? The resolution is a good one, but in the wrong hands of a poor messenger and his cronies, they are all board haters or PL haters bottom line, is I am pro. Board and PL and have made that very clear from the off, so you may join the line up of canamalars cabal, call me all the names you like doesent bother me one little bit, I have my opinion of which I am entitled to, and you have yours, HH.

Manager’s delight after tough derby win

By: Paul Cuddihy on 28 Oct, 2013 09:30

NEIL Lennon was delighted at Sunday’s derby victory over Partick Thistle at Firhill. It was a hard-fought 2-1 win in difficult weather conditions, which also saw Celtic go down to 10 men when Georgios Samaras picked up an injury and all substitutes had been used.

The Greek striker had given the Hoops a first-half lead, and Amido Balde fired home the winner after Kris Doolan had equalised for the home side.

“We had to dig it out in the end,” Neil Lennon said after the game. “I felt we were sloppy at times in our finishing. We should have been out of sight at half-time. Scott Fox has made three great one-on-one saves – from Stokes and twice from Pukki.

“At 1-0 Partick Thistle were still in it, and they’re a good team. I didn’t think we started the second-half well at all and for the first 15 minutes we were on the back foot due to our own sloppiness more than anything else, and they got an equaliser.

“But our reaction was good and I was actually trying to get Amido on before they scored. But thankfully we got him on and he scored a brilliant goal, and that will do him the world of good and it’s fantastic for us. It’s a brilliant win.”

Celtic’s Portuguese striker scored his second competitive goal for the Hoops, having netted his first in the 5-2 victory over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park last month.

And his manager believes that the winner over Partick Thistle will help build the player’s confidence.

“He’s going to play a lot more now as the season progresses,” the Hoops boss said. “We’re working away with him in training and he’s had to be patient, but you can see the attributes he has.

“He’s still got a bit of work to do in his hold-up play but he’s definitely got goals in him and he gives us a different dimension when we play.”

And Neil Lennon is hoping that the absence of a midweek fixture this week will help his squad, which has been hit with a series of injuries.

“You have to give respect to the opposition because Partick Thistle can play a bit and they had their tails up after a great win last weekend,” he said, “but I’ve got to give great credit to the players. It wasn’t pretty at times but at times our football was good and I thought we deserved to win over the 90 minutes.

“We’re patched up at the minute –we were down to 10 men with about 10 minutes of the game to go so hopefully Charlie Mulgrew, James Forrest and Derk Boerrigter will be back.

“We missed a little bit of width in the team and that’s just through bad luck more than anything else and to get those three back in for next week will give us a little bit more dynamism going forward as well.”
