Celtic League of Nations

937

It is worth more than a passing observation that in yesterday’s game Celtic had players from 11 different countries in the starting line-up:

England, Sweden, Honduras, Scotland, Nigeria, Netherlands, Finland, Israel, Ireland, Greece and Wales.

Recruitment came from clubs in 7 different league structures:

England (3) and Wales, Scotland, Norway, Honduras, Israel (2), Netherlands and Germany.

There were a further four different nationalities on the bench.

Of the starting line-up only Fraser Forster is not a full international, although that is surely only a matter of time, but Fraser is the only player we have from a large football nation, perhaps an indication that it is more difficult to recruit nationals from England, Germany, Italy, France and Spain than elsewhere.

The signing of Emilio Izaguirre from Honduras three years ago came two years after the player’s representatives had him on trial in England.  It’s likely Emilio’s CV was in every mailbox in the British game, so I doubt we have much of an infrastructure in Central America.

Celtic have obviously matured links in Israel recently, Beram Kayal and Efe Ambrose have delivered value, while Nir Biton fits the profile of the player Celtic should be looking for.  Embedding relationships in similar markets offers a higher likelihood of value – and therefore football development – than taking our chance on the mainstream British and European circuits.

Prize to anyone who can point to Guinea-Bissau (Amido Balde’s country of birth and location of a Sporting Lisbon-associate club) on the map. There is a lot of work to do to catch up with the Portuguese.

Running to Stand still by U2 is a great song about heroin addiction, although I am not sure how qualified they are to sing about the subject matter.

There She Goes by the LA’s isn’t a bad song either.

Regarding the Game, good result, poor conditions,dis-appointing attitude from Thistle fans who thought they were out of earshot.

Very poor policing had to walk round the entire park to JH stand prior to KO,then after game road in front of Stadium cordoned off with Thistle fans wanting to come up and Celtic fans wanting to go down, after 20 mins we all mingle, therefore no point other than infuriate all customers.

    Awe_naw..,

We have more important issues to deal with, lets stay focused, maybe someone who doesn’t like the resolution decided the best way to deal with it was to report me and shut me up, P67 has rules to apply, when people take offence and complain his rules have been broken he has to enforce them, he cant really refuse can he?

What happened then was the exact opposite of what the complainant had maybe hoped for, thats a good thing in my book, it showed this is not a flash in the pan and will not go away if anyone tries to use censorship as a means to kill the resolution, if anything it created greater concern and even outrage.

I have never said a bad word about Subo in my life mate.

She was just very naive in thinking that song was all about feeding monkeys.

    Her innocence is a virtue.

I suggest you read the resolution, what they should do is all laid out for them.

If they do that and don’t get any joy then we’ll have seen them try, it will then be up to the shareholders to take it further if thats the decision, the club might not be allowed to raise litigation against the authorities but theres nothing to stop a group of shareholders doing it.

What was SuBo doing wanting to sing a song about heroin addiction?

By the same token why was the song used for a charity event

I believe the song Perfect Day was also played at Celtic Park mind you all those hun junkies must have needed a fix after we gubbed them 5-1

Everyone knows it is a Red Hand of Ulster Salute and any resemblance to a Nazi salute is merely coincidental.

    Mmmmmm?

I suppose the best people to ask are Germans although I believe its a criminal offence to do a real one or even a pseudo Nazi salute in Germany

  20. blog has been a bit mental lately, you would think our team is doing sh*te the way threads have developed.

Anyway , I now have deep concerns…this clique thing is worrying me. At first I thought I was safe, no Lou Reed albums , noCQN badge but horror of horrors I do wear a cruxifix and it has left my body once in 32 years for an operation. Gifted to me as a wedding present by the wifes granny who crossed the religous divide in 1930`s Lanarkshire to marry her man and a woman who was as tough and fair as she always wanted to be.

Now I care for no cliques but if anyone wants to suggest this gift gives me access to one , I will refer you to the dear old wummin who gave it it to me, she would sort out any cliques in about 30 seconds.

She would also confirm that there is no such thing as a “red hand salute” this is bollocks with a capital B . Anyone who suggests otherwise is an apologist.

  21. The Narrowbhoat Tim on

While I liked a lot of Lou Reed songs he was awful both times I seen him. Both times I went to see the opening band and left halfway through Lou Reed set, while he had a great backing band Lou was too strung out on drugs both times and made a complete mess of everything.

What was great were both opening bands at both shows, early 70s Toronto Genesis opened up for him on their Foxtrot tour , it was priceless to see the looks on the Lou Reed’s leather-clad fans faces when the curtain was lifted and there was Peter Gabriel standing in a red dress with a fox head on screaming “A Flower!”

Second time it was Ian Dury and the Blockheads that opened up for him and they just blew him away.

I would have seen him a third time in 75 at the Reading Festival but at the last minute he cancelled the headline spot on Sunday night and was replaced by Wishbone Ash.

Seen his widow play live in the mid eighties and she was brilliant.

I thought using Perfect Day as a charity song was hilarious. Shows you how much research is carried out on these things.

Normally only Sevco provide so much unintentional laughs.

Trick is the ECA are not a licensing authority, this is a multimillion pound fraud perpetrated against our club by licensing authorities. Shareholders lost both income and the chance to increase their shareholding, the club lost income and the opportunity of greater income and exposure. Thats the bottom line IMO.
