Celtic League of Nations

937

It is worth more than a passing observation that in yesterday’s game Celtic had players from 11 different countries in the starting line-up:

England, Sweden, Honduras, Scotland, Nigeria, Netherlands, Finland, Israel, Ireland, Greece and Wales.

Recruitment came from clubs in 7 different league structures:

England (3) and Wales, Scotland, Norway, Honduras, Israel (2), Netherlands and Germany.

There were a further four different nationalities on the bench.

Of the starting line-up only Fraser Forster is not a full international, although that is surely only a matter of time, but Fraser is the only player we have from a large football nation, perhaps an indication that it is more difficult to recruit nationals from England, Germany, Italy, France and Spain than elsewhere.

The signing of Emilio Izaguirre from Honduras three years ago came two years after the player’s representatives had him on trial in England.  It’s likely Emilio’s CV was in every mailbox in the British game, so I doubt we have much of an infrastructure in Central America.

Celtic have obviously matured links in Israel recently, Beram Kayal and Efe Ambrose have delivered value, while Nir Biton fits the profile of the player Celtic should be looking for.  Embedding relationships in similar markets offers a higher likelihood of value – and therefore football development – than taking our chance on the mainstream British and European circuits.

Prize to anyone who can point to Guinea-Bissau (Amido Balde’s country of birth and location of a Sporting Lisbon-associate club) on the map. There is a lot of work to do to catch up with the Portuguese.

  3. Happy to see a bit of peace & goodwill break out on the blog for a few hours. It won’t last I reckon there could be another hour and a half in it, and something will kick off. Anyways I’m off to Torremolinos on a weeks hols early in the morning. Just packed in my CQN Golf Shirt (Pressie from kikinthenakas) & my Celtic baseball cap, which I bought in the Argyle St store, for a fiver, before the Ajax game. So hopefully will meet up with a fellow Celt somewhere on the Costa and share a couple of pints of Magners.

    gsu,

There was no cheap shot at our host, as I said he has to play fair by his rules, so I’m a bit disappointed your still going with that.

I’m also pretty sure whoever complained has done so in confidence and it would be treated as such, so not sure why you’d expect our host to break that confidence.

I already told you I accept responsibility for crossing the line, but thats not going to stop me wondering why people not involved would want to get involved to have me sanctioned. And you encouraging I demand our host breaks the confidence of people who obviously do not want to be named then advising me to seek retribution actually does make me question your motives and if you are deliberately misinterpreting me. So I’ll leave it at that and bid you and the good people of the blog good night.

Don’t bother replying I will be scrolling past you in future. Or have the last word if you want I expect you need it, it makes no difference to me.

HT don’t reckon this new guy Canamalar is the same one!!!, saw his first post it was too conciliatory for my liking :-) Bring back the old Canamalar…

In terms of cliques my take on it is that there are so many fans on this site that as a new poster its easy to get lost and when no one answers you (ok happens to me all the time!) , you tend to think its very cliqy (HT help me out in spelling here :-)), however have met quite a few cqn’ers and particularly at BMCUW hootenany (thanks for organising) which helps build friendships and makes being part of CQN more meaningful.

If your new don’t give up and everyone has an opinion, we all don’t agree most of the time, just get stuck in and join the debate!!!

I’m thinking of starting a clique as it seems to be the fashionable thing to do- I still havent figured out a unique angle for the clique yet- but will let the rest of the clique know when I have one.

Canamalar mate, someone gave you great advice a wee while back in that some ‘people’ will be fishing for you, IMHO you should take heed of that wise sage and reflect well before posting.

You have done a great thing, let the shot develop as they say in snooker.

Timelines are not favouring the liars, Celtic (our board) will have to consider this new information, they will have to ask the SFA for confirmation at the very least.

  16. What is the Stars on

Dont know whether its been mentioned but has anyone looked into the status of the new (after banning) Canalamar

I mean is he regarded now as a new poster who has no history (and therefore must be called a hun and treated with suspicion until he is vouched for as proper tim)

Is his “history” now regarded as …. well history …….. and was his first post on this forum recorded today and anyone who refers to old an Canamalar post from some time back as being from the same person should be regarded as an Old Firm Canamalar Apologist and is to be boycotted on this forum by all right thinking tims

As much as I am quick to confront poor work by elements of Scottish Mainstream Media, I must on this occassion applaud BBC’s Ewan Angus and indeed Tom English and Jim Spence.

Chick Young on the other hand…he needs to listen to recent directives to BBC re duty to rebuild public trust.

Below is an email Exchange youay find interesting. I have inserted CultsBhoy ..

    ******************************************

    CultsBhoy,

    Thank you for your email.

Firstly, Chick Young was wrong in his comments regarding Mr King and the SFA. As you say, this was addressed on air and the correct information broadcast to the audience. We have spoken to Chick Young and he has accepted that he was mistaken.

Given the complexity of the Rangers situation, I don’t agree that his comments were “blatant propaganda on behalf of Rangers Football Club” but I do accept that they were forceful and appeared to support the position of some of the protagonists involved in the story. I would, however, point out that they were countered and challenged by others on the programme.

Please be assured that those involved have been reminded of the need to ensure that comment and opinion remain within the framework of the BBC’s Editorial Guidelines.

    Yours,

    Subject: Chick Young

    Dear Sir,

Can I have your views on Chick Young’s blatant propaganda on behalf of Rangers Football Club on tonight’s Sportsound programme.

This was very reminiscent of James Traynor’s behaviour prior to his departure to join RFC.

I’m concerned that tax payers are paying for this unprofessional behaviour. Even when presented with facts by fellow journalist ( Tom English) Mr Young continued his misinformation to the the listening audience in relation to criminal acts and conviction of David King.

Mr Young further insisted that he had information on SFA approach to the appointment of David King to RFC Board. This was exposed as untrue by fellow journalist, Jim Spence – who clarified the position with SFA. Yet Mr Young continued his misinformation.

I find this disturbing and intellectually insulting. I expect better from the BBC.

Can you let me know if this behaviour is condoned. If it is, can you direct me to appropriate channel for making official complaint.

    This behaviour is unacceptable.

    Yours sincerely

    (CultsBhoy)

  24. Good to see Canamalar back on the Messageboard, I always enjoy arguing with the olde fella (he must be older than me,Schürrle) because he isnae wan to hold much of a grudge. He might no be religious, he might be, I know not and dinnae care at all, but he does recognise he is a sinner and me and him are United there because, I know I am, he knows I am and, knows he is, I know he is, everyone knows I am.

For your information, I believe fully in what I put on the olde Blog, one day drinking with me would soon make you fully aware of that Sh*t, Why do you think BOBBY asked for a personal first meeting, FFM was singing yer praises as well.

Hopefully, you will address me by name the next Time I annoy you, unless you want to kid on your in some sort of clicque. ;))
