Celtic League of Nations

937

It is worth more than a passing observation that in yesterday’s game Celtic had players from 11 different countries in the starting line-up:

England, Sweden, Honduras, Scotland, Nigeria, Netherlands, Finland, Israel, Ireland, Greece and Wales.

Recruitment came from clubs in 7 different league structures:

England (3) and Wales, Scotland, Norway, Honduras, Israel (2), Netherlands and Germany.

There were a further four different nationalities on the bench.

Of the starting line-up only Fraser Forster is not a full international, although that is surely only a matter of time, but Fraser is the only player we have from a large football nation, perhaps an indication that it is more difficult to recruit nationals from England, Germany, Italy, France and Spain than elsewhere.

The signing of Emilio Izaguirre from Honduras three years ago came two years after the player’s representatives had him on trial in England.  It’s likely Emilio’s CV was in every mailbox in the British game, so I doubt we have much of an infrastructure in Central America.

Celtic have obviously matured links in Israel recently, Beram Kayal and Efe Ambrose have delivered value, while Nir Biton fits the profile of the player Celtic should be looking for.  Embedding relationships in similar markets offers a higher likelihood of value – and therefore football development – than taking our chance on the mainstream British and European circuits.

Prize to anyone who can point to Guinea-Bissau (Amido Balde’s country of birth and location of a Sporting Lisbon-associate club) on the map. There is a lot of work to do to catch up with the Portuguese.

The resolution is a big issue and there are people who want it killed off, thats quite evident from feedback on here deliberate misinterpretation is the order of the day, the most obvious being anti-board. I don’t see how anyone can read it and think its anti-board. And I can only surmise they will attempt anything to kill it if that is their interpretation.

I might also add I’m not a crony of Canamalar. I’ve never met the guy and like others here I’ve had my spats with him.

The timeline, auldheid has only recently gathered all the information to show the timeline does not tie up with what was claimed.

The board acted professionally by treating the SFA as professionals and taking their word as professional body. Auldheids info has changed that and raises questions about the integrity of the information they were given, I for one hope they agree and reopen the matter through the CFCB, as they can obviously no longer trust the SFA to provide reliable information going on the evidence of when the concerns were first raised.

    Canamalar,

Its anti board because the board dont want it. Little speculation as to why from those that support the resolution even in spirit but feel strongly inclined to support the board on it. Even the possibility of minimal negligence is unconsidered. They either know the truth and that its bad news for us but wont state or speculate as to why. Know their place in the scheme of things or they think the entire plc is infallible. So the debate is steered towards personal attacks. Until they come up with something credible. Transparent and credible. I suspect the threat of disruption to a POSSIBLE invite will be the card that is played. Unless that is credible and transparent I would err on the side of not believing them.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++=

The deliberate mis-representation has been a creation of the smsm. Keevins and Guidi come to mind.

Why anyone would accept that representation from those sources without looking at the alternative, i.e. that there are real questions about the governance of Scottish football that need answering is beyond me.

The resolution seeks to get answers to those governance questions. So far what has come out from Regan is most unconvincing and it is not just Celtic supporters who are not convinced.

It is a great shame that folk have to put themselves out to get answers, but that is human nature, looking for easy answers rather than the truth.

The resolution is almost secondary now. It has placed focus on past SFA actions and demanded answers, except that this time they cannot fob off supporters with responses that do not stand scrutiny and Celtic cannot be part of a fob off.

Glad you are back and put minds at rest.

As I said earlier in response to conspiracy theory – Occam’s Razor. The simplest explanation is usually the truth. Now had the SFA only given us the truth from the beginning, it would never have got to this point. They have had ample opportunity to explain.

I appreciate the fact that it is a big issue and you have put a lot of work into it, but you have to move on from this speculation stuff. If it bothers you that much and you want to get to the heart of the complaint and what motivated the person or persons for filing the complaint I’m sure they would be more than happy to step forward, or even take it off line with them and see what motivated them in the first place.

There has been a lot of speculation on here regarding censorship of posters, I don’t believe it. I do not know Paul67 on a personal level but I don’t think censorship just for the sake of it is in his make up. Some posters ought to realise that when you are in a man’s house you respect that man or don’t enter in the first place

    Awe_naw..,

Its now immaterial, its on the agenda, invitations have been coming our way since before the turn of the century and as yet none have come to fruition. Jam tomorrow is getting harder to sell and facing up to the challenges of today is the only way forward. I went through two major phases, initially I wanted us to clean up the game and then leave the governance in a healthier and fairer state. Then I just wanted us to leave it to its own devices and let it rot in hell.

In both phases I predicated everything on the invitation and that we might have a choice, I’ve sadly come to the conclusion we’re no getting an invitation any time soon, it only took me 12 years. (quick learner:o)

So the only option IMO is get it sorted, its the only way to improve the competition and conditions for the sport in Scotland.

Naive maybe but worth a bash

I must admit to a bit of delight the way he stroked the ball away to score.

I thought he looked real raw pre season but he has progressed significantly with good coaching.

I hope Pukki gets to benefit in the same way, although he does not start from the same raw point.
