Celtic League of Nations

937

It is worth more than a passing observation that in yesterday’s game Celtic had players from 11 different countries in the starting line-up:

England, Sweden, Honduras, Scotland, Nigeria, Netherlands, Finland, Israel, Ireland, Greece and Wales.

Recruitment came from clubs in 7 different league structures:

England (3) and Wales, Scotland, Norway, Honduras, Israel (2), Netherlands and Germany.

There were a further four different nationalities on the bench.

Of the starting line-up only Fraser Forster is not a full international, although that is surely only a matter of time, but Fraser is the only player we have from a large football nation, perhaps an indication that it is more difficult to recruit nationals from England, Germany, Italy, France and Spain than elsewhere.

The signing of Emilio Izaguirre from Honduras three years ago came two years after the player’s representatives had him on trial in England.  It’s likely Emilio’s CV was in every mailbox in the British game, so I doubt we have much of an infrastructure in Central America.

Celtic have obviously matured links in Israel recently, Beram Kayal and Efe Ambrose have delivered value, while Nir Biton fits the profile of the player Celtic should be looking for.  Embedding relationships in similar markets offers a higher likelihood of value – and therefore football development – than taking our chance on the mainstream British and European circuits.

Prize to anyone who can point to Guinea-Bissau (Amido Balde’s country of birth and location of a Sporting Lisbon-associate club) on the map. There is a lot of work to do to catch up with the Portuguese.

If we seek fairness we need to show it too IMO. I was encouraged by his approach – a straight bat. I replied to him thanking him for his response and sharing my opinion that his job will be easier going forward as the Traynors and Youngs of this world move out of their roles. It will take a new generation who are savvy to risks of lies being exposed through social media etc to rebuild the trust between BBC ( and others) and the public.

I think Spence and English have already cottoned on to this hence their swift rebuttal of Chick’s transparent attempt to breed misinformation in support of his cronies at RFC. Shameful.

If Chick was not actively being an RFC spokesman and genuinely believed the keech he was spouting then at best he is breath-takingly incompetent…?

  13. Interesting to see NL so fulsome in his praise for Amido.

I suspect NL will be worried and frustrated with his current forward line.

I thought big Vic would be hard to replace, but, it looks as though by reshuffling we have coped, and are really missing Hoops.

After 20 competitive matches Stokes, Pukki, and Balde are collectively struggling to muster 10 goals between them.

Having hooked Pukki yesterday, I wonder if Amido is going to get his chance?

The jury is still out for me on Pukki, he has a good first touch, but he seems to lack conviction, and if am not sure if that is driven by a lack of fitness or a lack of desire.

Whatever is missing, I hope we find it ASAP, as I think there is a player in there, but having not cut it at Seville, or Schalke, then this is his last crack at the big time

Of course Young is incompetent by any reasonable yardstick.

    He’s thick and he’s gullible.

I sometimes wonder how he ever became a St Mirren fan when he has all the attributes of a hun.

I like you are concern by our lack of goals I would promote Denny Johnstone ,give this young bhoy 15/20 mins. to see what he can do,age should not be a barrier.

English, Speirs etc are young enough to know 2 things:

    1. They have many years ahead of them so need to survive

    2. Only the truth can save them

Chick on the other hand only has months of work ahead of him, he is a busted flush who has already been down graded by the BBC. In short he has little to lose.

  23. Chick’s take on the new dodgy dave was straight from FF casting central but nothing on his apoplexy when tom English suggested that the cardigan wasn’t squeaky clean in the whole sevco soap opera. His voice got higher and higher to the point you couldn’t actually hear what he was saying.

  24. Kept sayin id do it tomorrow but now…..times almost up so thats me signed the petition as well Big Nan.

  25. The BBC only still employ Chick as without him their flagship Hogmanay night coverage is dependant on him. He’s the only realistic impression that Jonathan Watson can still do.

  26. I see for our next 2 CL games we have a 3pm KO at home both Saturdays prior. Surely there must be some mistake? I thought a Noon KO on Sunday in Aberdeen or Inverness was mandatory for us.

So, now that we have a new Canamalar on the blog, with a new but similar handle, do we recognize his history or does he start all over again ? One for the legal team to consider.
