Celtic League of Nations

937

It is worth more than a passing observation that in yesterday’s game Celtic had players from 11 different countries in the starting line-up:

England, Sweden, Honduras, Scotland, Nigeria, Netherlands, Finland, Israel, Ireland, Greece and Wales.

Recruitment came from clubs in 7 different league structures:

England (3) and Wales, Scotland, Norway, Honduras, Israel (2), Netherlands and Germany.

There were a further four different nationalities on the bench.

Of the starting line-up only Fraser Forster is not a full international, although that is surely only a matter of time, but Fraser is the only player we have from a large football nation, perhaps an indication that it is more difficult to recruit nationals from England, Germany, Italy, France and Spain than elsewhere.

The signing of Emilio Izaguirre from Honduras three years ago came two years after the player’s representatives had him on trial in England.  It’s likely Emilio’s CV was in every mailbox in the British game, so I doubt we have much of an infrastructure in Central America.

Celtic have obviously matured links in Israel recently, Beram Kayal and Efe Ambrose have delivered value, while Nir Biton fits the profile of the player Celtic should be looking for.  Embedding relationships in similar markets offers a higher likelihood of value – and therefore football development – than taking our chance on the mainstream British and European circuits.

Prize to anyone who can point to Guinea-Bissau (Amido Balde’s country of birth and location of a Sporting Lisbon-associate club) on the map. There is a lot of work to do to catch up with the Portuguese.

There is a Great Big Difference aboot , Amido..from the average run of the Miller..

which a loata folk hiv noticed, but hiv no bin able tae quite describe it..

    Well..Ah kin..

    And it’s THIS..

Amido, is awfy Hard tae Stop.. when he is in FULLL possession of the Foot ball..

Did Ye notice.. That the way he scored His Second goal For the First Team..

was a Carbon Copy.. well. almost…of The First Goal ,which he scored for the First Team?

Well, Ah noticed.. Simply because… Ah was Fully Expecting it tae Be!

But , Ah am Repeating it tae mak sure the Ma readers Full Understand whit Ah mean.

Most of the Celtic Players, when they are oan a Run with the Football in their Possession..and are being Harried by a Corresponding Opponent in a Chase..which will take baith of them into oor Opponents Goal Area..

Will.. more likely , be Brought tae Earth , by the opponent, long before oor Player , gets very far into that dangerous Area.

That is Standard Operating Procedure, by oor Opponents.

As Ah hiv Pointed oot…It is a very Likely Scenario… and it occurs ,frequently, during a Typical S.P.L encounter between us and wan of oor Provincial Opponents.

    Howevahhhhhh..

That Tactic will Nevah work , oan oor Big Lad.

Because.. For the Want of a Suitable description. Ah hiv likened Amido as being Made of Pure Rubber..

    because

He is So Resilient tae the Efforts of His Harrier ,tae Bring him to Earth..and those efforts, which become more and more desperate.. are easily rebuffed by oor Laddie.

He just will Not Go doon!

As a matter of fact.. It is HIs Opponent who is the More Likely tae go Doon.

Amido, is a Very Powerful Chap. Strong as an Ox.

Indeed,he is Just the Fellow tae Lead oor Line.

Seems a big stooshie here over little last few days an still folk miss point an claim conspiracy. At no point did Paul say he monitored every post. He said if he receives complaint he emails person an until he hears from them they are unable to log on. Due to problems with spam emails this went on bit longer.

So can we end thoughts that Paul is selective on who he bans. Fact is lots of people on here cud have been banned but no complaints were received. Maybe cliques play a part but maybe if we respected each other bit better an were bit more tolerant towards each other an accepted differences in opinions more civilly then this blog may begin to get bac to the quality it was a few yrs ago.

It must be very difficult to judge young players.

Only a couple of months ago after some good performances in friendlies, lots of folk were raving about Jackson Irvine, but he hasn’t done a lot since going on loan.

  5. Kojo,

Amido’s stride is one of the biggest I have seen in Scottish football, actually I don’t think I’ve seen bigger.

He is going to be a superstar in Europe and to a lesser extent in Scotland, especially if he can finish like that, all the Time – Time is very important. Timelines are there for us all to see, if we choose to Luke.

I think if one poster had untwisted his knickers earlier today it woulda moved on quicker.

Clashcity, you are right. It’s very hard to judge before they play first team games. The Jackson one was simply ridiculous.

He played one ok game that most of us seen and he was the new Paul mcstay.

  11. Just noticed another news article and Ajax moaning about how unjust the result at Celtic Park was.

One thing that strikes me about these complaints. They always mention how on 3 occasions Ajax players were in scoring positions but the Celtic keeper pulled off fantastic saves.

You know what? Fraser Forster is a member of the Celtic team. His job is to keep the ball out of the net. The fact that he did so last week with tremendous skill and dexterity does not equate to Ajax being “extremely unlucky”.

It’s a bit like saying Inter were very unlucky in Lisbon because the 11 Celtic players were on top form that day.

I had a look at come dutch comments and although on-line translation apps are not 100% they do give you a feel for what they are saying. Basically all this passing outside their box thereby obtaining 60%+ possession gains nothing – they are getting a bit fed up with it. Apparently they did they same against Milan.

He only did a few songs, but he was in top form. It was a truly magical evening, with music from Eddi Reader, Dougie Maclean, Duncan Chisolm and Phil Cunnignham. All backed by a full orchestra. Great night.Great performer.Sad to hear he’d passed away.

  24. Petec. Sorry was feeding the weans…

Cheers for the compliment but it may not be deserved. The UN? My opinion shifts. During Colin Powells chemical weapons show 10 years ago I thought of the UN the way Canamaras employers think of him, too impotent. In recent weeks I thought the security council did a good job over Syria, but maybe it was Russia and China that did a good job alone. My default position is it makes one helluva traffic jam when having one of their meetings. At its inaugral meeting, back in 53 I believe, the elected President of Iran asked the UN for help against external forces undermining the security of his country, after he had nationalized Irans oil industry. His appeal for help fell on deaf ears and the rest (The Shah) is history…. Oh, and some here say it is apt it was built on the site of a slaughterhouse….

  25. I thought after 10 league games in to the campaign it might be a good idea to assess what influence the MIB have had to Celtics results.

By my reckoning we have been on the wrong end of game changing decisions (ie goal, penalty, red card) in 6 out of 10 league games. So I dug out the calculator and we have been wronged in 60% of games.

Celtic 2 RC 1(Stokes denied stonewall penalty) Ref William Collum

DU 0 Celtic 1(Ref and linesman miss petulant kick(similar to Broonys) on VVD subsequent red card issued no benefit to Celtic. Ref Crawford.

Killie 2 Celtic 5 ( dive for free kick then blatant foul in wall allowing them to score) Ref Beaton.

Celtic 2 Mwell 0 (stonewall penalty on Matthews and possible red card) Ref Brines

Hibs 1 Celtic 1 (blatant offside for Hibs goal) Ref Murray

Partick 1 Celtic 2 (offside given against Broony when onside a mile stopping the ref award what was definite penalty) Ref William Collum.

Now as we know these honest mistakes will even themselves out over the course of the season and all incidents except Killie game were when game was in balance.

Have we been on the right end of a call this season? Possible penalty not given against St Johnstone.

And to think some people do not want to question our club with regards to SFA.

I try to keep up to date with Paul67’s blogs but I find it almost impossible to stay current with responses. However today I;ve tried to do so.

Firstly, I’m glad that Canamalar is active again. I support resolution 12 and I’ll be proud to add my support to it at our AGM.

In my opinion, we should not stand aside and meekly allow our Board to accept the SFA use of the Sandy Bryson defence again, “….at the time the information we had was such. Subsequently, that information was determined to be thoroughly bogus. C’est la vie, as our bon ami Monsieur Platini might say….”

Not good enough PL and I don’t care that you’re quid pro quo might be sales of booze at games again.

Secondly, I’ve lived my entire life in various places, all within two miles of the the River Clyde. My perspective is black & white Clydeside.

A joy of this blog is to receive colour perspective from both Scots who have moved away from here and non-Scots who have vicariously arrived here.
