Celtic to the core, Graves and your role

693

Several years ago, long before CQN, I was fortunate enough to be in the company of 10 of the 11 Lions who took the field in Lisbon.  It was a great to see them interact with each other.  A grinning Jinky walked in late, “Am I in trouble again?”, bringing a playful shout from all the others.

I’ve since met the rest of the squad who didn’t make the field, but Willie Wallace remained an unknown quantity, until this week.  I occasionally wondered what role Celtic played in the life of a man who left for Australia circa 40 years ago.

As anyone who read Willie on the blog this morning will realise, he was cut from the same wood as the rest of the team, with a deeply set Celtic grain.  When I met him on Saturday he had all the playfulness and spirit the other Lions had, but there was no hiding his sharp competitive edge when talk go around to matters on, and sometimes, off, the field.

Many thanks for chatting this morning, Willie.

If you can make it to Waterstones in Stirling tomorrow evening (late night shopping), I’ll be there with Willie, who will be signing copies of Heart of a Lion.  See you there.

I missed out on the preparations and commemorations yesterday by Celtic Graves and so many Celtic fans.  Caught up with it late in the day online.  Things about this club blow you away sometimes.  I know there is some traceable linage from Celtic Graves, though Jungle Bhoys and all the way back to Celts for Change.  With supporters like this, your club is in incredibly good hands.

At any other club these events would be remarkable.  At Celtic, they are just another chapter in a very special story.

Which takes me onto the next point………

All of these great things are underpinned by you, me and thousands of others buying season tickets each year, no matter who survives long enough to compete in the league, no matter how many times newspapers try to tell you Everton want (and will get) Neil Lennon, no matter if we win, lose or draw.

The Jungle Drums tell me sales are up on the equivalent period last year, which is great news, but it is absolutely necessary.  I want to see Celtic back in the Champions League next season, competing as effectively as they did last season.  I want to see us mature the development strategy which is already delivering such bounty.

This is your club, claim your seat and make it happen.

Stunning response to our ebay raffle and auction.  Sincere thanks to those who bought tickets and bid.  You have two days to buy a ticket for the framed Celtic top signed by the Seville squad, and a few days more for the signed and framed Messi top……..

Heart of a Lion available below, or see you at Waterstones, Stirling tomorrow evening (times will be confirmed tomorrow).

  6. Can I put in my tuppence worth re. Aiden. There’s no doubting his ability, but, for all his trickery etc., there was rarely an end product, i.e., a goal, shot or chance set up for a team-mate. I would draw a comparison with Cristiano Ronaldo. When he first arrived on the scene with Man U, he was all style and no substance, but, somewhere down the line, he turned that around, and became the player he is today. Aiden, sadly, for me anyway, hasn’t!

He still flatters to decieve, and I still believe that was a brilliant piece of business from Celtic to get £8,000,000 for him. I said at the time that he was the most over-rated player in Scotland, after Barry Ferguson left!

    4. Luciano Gaucci, Perugia: You’re looking at the man who once ‘signed’ Colonel Qaddafi’s son, Saadi Qaddafi, who was absolutely bloody awful and therefore never actually played for Perugia before testing positive for banned substances and being banned for three years after sitting on the bench for the first time. The rumour is that the Libyan despot actually paid Gaucci to let his son muck in.

During his tenure, Gaucci also tried to sign the captain of the Swedish women’s team, cancelled an imminent signing’s contract over rumours he was gay and even attempted to bribe a referee with a racehorse. His piece de resistance came in 2002, when he terminated the contract of South Korean striker Ahn Jung-Hwan after his golden goal knocked Italy out of the World Cup semi-finals, saying, ”I have no intention of paying a salary to someone who has ruined Italian football.”

After Perugia went bust in 2005, Big Luke was sentenced to three years in jail for tax fraud, but only after he fled to the Dominican Republic and hid from the authorities for four years.

Stupld, stupid huns ,i know who is stupid , All the other clubs and club fans for just accepting everything that has gone on . All this has been to keep a corrupt organisation afloat . Next exercise is to make sure the door to europe and the wealth that goes with it is open wide for them . Sickening state of affairs .

Think they’re being harsh on your hometown, we all know Kilwinning has always been a town of natural beauty, with a diversity of cultures and a welcoming hand to visitors.

  23. Just dropped back in again to say….

To hell wi the huns !!!

Who cares – who their chairman is ?

Who cares – who their manager is ?

Let the bassas rot in hell !!!

    Now….time for the IMPORTANT stuff

    Get Johnny Russell in !

    Get Alexi Eremenko in!

Is John Sutton any – worse / better than Lassad ? Miku ?

    Get the treble won !

Get to the last 8 in the CL or the Final of Europa League !

Let them see the Celtic fans walking tall again – instead of

having to be made sit through a yawning chasm every second

week and then try to dress it up by saying – “Isn’t this a competitive league withoot the huns ?”

What a load of BS. imo

Press home our advantage by putting some decent players on the pitch.

Don’t fill the team wi all of these nobodies from – nowhere !

The Fergus rallying call this morning urging the fans to come out every week is from the same emotional blackmail book that the huns are now trapped in. imo

We have the opportunity to do to the huns what they did to us in the 90’s.

Only this time – we do it LEGALLY !

Get stronger – they get weaker.

That’s how it works in these parts. imo

Oh, and by the way – it must have been just me who booed Fergus when he put up the league flag wi Tom Boyd – well….I seem to be the only one who has ever admitted it :)

Oh, and I must have been the only one who also booed – Chairman Brian Quinn when – with his publicity rating at – zero – after his needless petty bickering with then manager MO’N – BQ came onto the pitch to try to scrape up some praise from the fans during the presentation from the Villa Real rep who was handing over the award from Uefa to the CSA rep – The ENTIRE stadium ended up booing the event – ruining what should have been a memorable moment for the club but, more importantly about the fans.

The Celtic fans waited 9 years to get a manager who could take the flag back off the huns. Wim Jansen was that man – only to be sacked by Fergus in preference to the retention of the despised – CEO Jock Brown ?!?1 What an own goal !!!

The new logo – BE CELTIC – maybe that message should start being adhered to – upstairs. imo
