Celtic to the core, Graves and your role

693

Several years ago, long before CQN, I was fortunate enough to be in the company of 10 of the 11 Lions who took the field in Lisbon.  It was a great to see them interact with each other.  A grinning Jinky walked in late, “Am I in trouble again?”, bringing a playful shout from all the others.

I’ve since met the rest of the squad who didn’t make the field, but Willie Wallace remained an unknown quantity, until this week.  I occasionally wondered what role Celtic played in the life of a man who left for Australia circa 40 years ago.

As anyone who read Willie on the blog this morning will realise, he was cut from the same wood as the rest of the team, with a deeply set Celtic grain.  When I met him on Saturday he had all the playfulness and spirit the other Lions had, but there was no hiding his sharp competitive edge when talk go around to matters on, and sometimes, off, the field.

Many thanks for chatting this morning, Willie.

If you can make it to Waterstones in Stirling tomorrow evening (late night shopping), I’ll be there with Willie, who will be signing copies of Heart of a Lion.  See you there.

I missed out on the preparations and commemorations yesterday by Celtic Graves and so many Celtic fans.  Caught up with it late in the day online.  Things about this club blow you away sometimes.  I know there is some traceable linage from Celtic Graves, though Jungle Bhoys and all the way back to Celts for Change.  With supporters like this, your club is in incredibly good hands.

At any other club these events would be remarkable.  At Celtic, they are just another chapter in a very special story.

Which takes me onto the next point………

All of these great things are underpinned by you, me and thousands of others buying season tickets each year, no matter who survives long enough to compete in the league, no matter how many times newspapers try to tell you Everton want (and will get) Neil Lennon, no matter if we win, lose or draw.

The Jungle Drums tell me sales are up on the equivalent period last year, which is great news, but it is absolutely necessary.  I want to see Celtic back in the Champions League next season, competing as effectively as they did last season.  I want to see us mature the development strategy which is already delivering such bounty.

This is your club, claim your seat and make it happen.

Stunning response to our ebay raffle and auction.  Sincere thanks to those who bought tickets and bid.  You have two days to buy a ticket for the framed Celtic top signed by the Seville squad, and a few days more for the signed and framed Messi top……..

Heart of a Lion available below, or see you at Waterstones, Stirling tomorrow evening (times will be confirmed tomorrow).

    A. Note it says the COMPANY considers no evidence was found, not “the INVESTIGATORS”

    B. It refers to Sevco SCOTLAND, White never claimed to have invested in Sevco Scotland, he claims to have invested by proxy in Sevco 5088 and that Green illegaly transferred the assets of Sevco 5088 into Sevco Scotland.

Pretty sure he wasn’t he resigned as Manager when CW took over and came back to Ibrox to be A Non-Exec Director with SevCo late last year.

I don’t think he’s ever been a Director of Ranger.

    Hail! Hail!

  6. Even the majority of the stupid Huns see the appointment of Smith as an effort to sell Season Books.

  7. “Based on the assessment of the available evidence…”

Now there’s a helpful caveat inserted.

  8. Morning cqn seems like another sham over at ibrokes..what did we expect?the truth?thats one thing we’l never get from there..paul mac has stated quite clearly original questions not answered and more besides..im not going to let it spoil our victors and recent great times!no way..get right roon the lottohthem!! Another 35K sevconians to the slaughter, happy days.

I suppose we should really be gratefull to the sfa, cos we are going to have the pleasure of seeing them go bust again.

Have we bought embdy yet ?…get yer finger oot PL, ffs.

  12. So after a thorough investigation that considered the wrong issue and didn’t involve taking evidence from the key figures, the conclusion is that there is nothing to see here.

    Is anyone at all surprised?

The question now is whether the SFA simply takes this at face value and does nothing, or whether it investigates the actual key issue – was Craig Whyte involved in the new football club that was given a license on condition that he was not to be involved in any way?

Myth has carried out Sterling work in his time at the Warchest Warehouse.

His appointment will appease ra Union Bearz – who won’t be forced to consider their options now.

  14. It looks like another quite cynical move to make their next chairman that well known business specialist, Walter of Cardigan.

How can they not see that this is just a ploy to get the fans to cough up their SB money?

As for Walter, he surely hopes to make that knighthood official by using all his skills in turning a hopeless case into a success. But, then again, he might have to sack Ally! That would be too funny.

Good PR is an art form.

The art is in leading the reader to a conclusion without providing any information that might compromise you in the future.

    “The company considers…”

    “the investigation found no evidence…”

Essentially, like-minded jounos are able to propagate the idea that Craig Whyte has no involvement with the current incarnation of ‘Rangers’, which speaks to the SFA membership narrative.

The glaring hole in the release is the issue of whether 5088 was screwed out of the assets purchase by Sevco Scotland Ltd. Despite an expensive and well resourced legal analysis, the Directors of the company remain unable to say whether or not they have good title to the rights to trade as ‘Rangers’, a situation that is unprecedented in corporate governance as I know it.

Who is ‘Rangers’? That’s where this particular show is at, and we are no nearer knowing.

The notion that what a listed company in such circumstances needs right now is a Chairman who has no experience whatsoever of governing a company, who has never held a position in business at any level, and who has no qualifications for the job beyond some fragile provenance, is absurd.

What we have all learned in the last couple of years is that the Rangers group of clubs will not do the honest thing.

Corrupt to the core. They are an absolute shambles on every level. But at least they are providing endless entertainment.

All they need to do is stumble on till the share lock in can be released, then those who got their shares for nothing can sell to whomever.

  28. I’m sure Craig Whyte will now accept the outcome of this investigation and simply ride off into the sunset.

Meanwhile, Walter’s well known cunning business acumen will lead the club / company / entity or whatever it is into a sustained period of economic growth and stability.

    Morning Guys,

Willie Wallace will be in Waterstones in Stirling tonight between 5pm and 7pm signing the book.

As you will have seen from the blog yesterday he has many an interesting tale to tell some of which he didn’t even bother with in the book.

For example, yesterday he revealed a couple of gems.

First, apparently Jock Stein picked the Scotland team more or less during the late sixties with Bobby Brown being a front!!

Secondly– against England at Wembley in 1967 there was no team talk– just here are your numbers– go and play and we will all have a good party tonight.

At said party, Billy Bremner told Cilla Black she couldn’t sing a note and that he preferred Sandy Shaw– as a result the whole Scotland squad got the heave ho from said party and had to go on on elsewhere — the England team who were in stitches at this were allowed to stay !

A year later, Willie formally wrote to the SFA and told them he would never play for Scotland again and that they could stick their international caps where the sun don’t shine!

This came about after he was called to Largs on International duty for a friendly game against Cyprus. Willie had explained that his wife was unwell and had asked to be excused from International duty which request was refused.

When he turned up at Largs it took only ten minutes to find out that he was neither playing nor a substitute. He was about to leave there and then but instead called Jock Stein who advised him to wait until after the game and at that time advise the SFA of his decision.

Accordingly after the game concerned, he left and wrote to the SFA as mentioned above.

He had played in the two previous Internationals against Russia and Holland– both of which were hard full Internationals.

He never played for Scotland again!!!

    Now—CALLING ALL BANKIES!!!

Willie will be in the Celtic shop in Clydebank shopping centre on Saturday afternoon between 3-5pm.

So come and say hello and listen to his patter– it is even more rank than mine and that is saying something!!!

I will be there too– so stories about Simeone’s Cafe, Singers cafe, Duntocher Hibs, OHR, Willie Blaney, Yoker Athletic, Italian Prisoners of war, the blitz, Singers clock and all that oul rubbish is up for grabs.

Willie will have been at the Celtic Superstore from noon earlier on in the day for a couple of hours.

We are also trying to arrange a non golfers night down in the Greenock CSC for a night in June so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Lastly, if you haven’t ordered a book– please do so from the link above– it is an ideal Father’s day present (16th June) or even a good read for the summer hols.

Yesterday a certain Mr Tom English described the book and Willie as ” Sheer Gold”!
