Celtic to the core, Graves and your role

693

Several years ago, long before CQN, I was fortunate enough to be in the company of 10 of the 11 Lions who took the field in Lisbon.  It was a great to see them interact with each other.  A grinning Jinky walked in late, “Am I in trouble again?”, bringing a playful shout from all the others.

I’ve since met the rest of the squad who didn’t make the field, but Willie Wallace remained an unknown quantity, until this week.  I occasionally wondered what role Celtic played in the life of a man who left for Australia circa 40 years ago.

As anyone who read Willie on the blog this morning will realise, he was cut from the same wood as the rest of the team, with a deeply set Celtic grain.  When I met him on Saturday he had all the playfulness and spirit the other Lions had, but there was no hiding his sharp competitive edge when talk go around to matters on, and sometimes, off, the field.

Many thanks for chatting this morning, Willie.

If you can make it to Waterstones in Stirling tomorrow evening (late night shopping), I’ll be there with Willie, who will be signing copies of Heart of a Lion.  See you there.

I missed out on the preparations and commemorations yesterday by Celtic Graves and so many Celtic fans.  Caught up with it late in the day online.  Things about this club blow you away sometimes.  I know there is some traceable linage from Celtic Graves, though Jungle Bhoys and all the way back to Celts for Change.  With supporters like this, your club is in incredibly good hands.

At any other club these events would be remarkable.  At Celtic, they are just another chapter in a very special story.

Which takes me onto the next point………

All of these great things are underpinned by you, me and thousands of others buying season tickets each year, no matter who survives long enough to compete in the league, no matter how many times newspapers try to tell you Everton want (and will get) Neil Lennon, no matter if we win, lose or draw.

The Jungle Drums tell me sales are up on the equivalent period last year, which is great news, but it is absolutely necessary.  I want to see Celtic back in the Champions League next season, competing as effectively as they did last season.  I want to see us mature the development strategy which is already delivering such bounty.

This is your club, claim your seat and make it happen.

Stunning response to our ebay raffle and auction.  Sincere thanks to those who bought tickets and bid.  You have two days to buy a ticket for the framed Celtic top signed by the Seville squad, and a few days more for the signed and framed Messi top……..

Heart of a Lion available below, or see you at Waterstones, Stirling tomorrow evening (times will be confirmed tomorrow).

  3. The cardigan coming back to power will be a bit like the Little Britain sketch with Denis Waterman, ” I write the theme tune, play the theme tune and sing the theme tune”. Cardigan is going to be busy but brace yourselves guys “he is a young chairman in his first year”.

  4. “Breaking news” – independant investigation finds no link between Green and White.

” I know Celtic have been in contact with my agent because they are going to lose their main striker – but I have more ability than any striker at Celtic.

“If a deal is reached where I end up playing for Celtic, the fans will be asking themselves after a just a few games, ‘Gary who’?

“I think I could go on and be the best striker in Scotland – and one of the best in Europe. Celtic will obviously be playing in Europe again next season and that’s a big thing for me.”

That’s a bit like Celtic appointing wee Fergus – God bless him – as manager!

  14. Question for any lurking Sevconians:

Is there a single one of you interested in finding out the truth?

Don’t you want to know the truth behind all these secret meetings between the management of your club and the SFA/SPL/SFL?

Fact is, the truth hurts and finding out the truth in this case would expose the rampant corruption deep at the heart of your club, the football authorities governing the game, the MSM and the legal fraternity.

If the truth was fully exposed the scandal would be one of the biggest not only in world sport, but in world events in general.

Any decent person would be raging at the events associated with RFC and now Sevco.

Any decent person would have nothing to do with them.

Any decent person would insist on knowing the truth.

    Any decent person….

Why do I waste my time? There are no decent Sevconians.

  15. MarrakeshExpress- Re Krakow I would definitely recommend going on a guided tour of Auchwitz, no shortage of availability for booking in the city, approx. 2 hours away and the knowledge of tour guides second to none.

It is indeed a life changing experience.

Also, don’t miss out on Oskar Schindler’s Factory in Krakow over the river near the ghetto area.

  16. Morning all

Ok is it just me that thinks manned they think they have all their troubles” squared away” :-) and that’s why the cardigan has got the gig

I am very confused by the whole shebang and think ill need to wait for

“MASONIC CABAL WHITEWASHES FOR DUMMIES” to hit the shelfs before ill understand

  18. Paul McConville makes a very valid point in his latest blog.

Essentially it’s very convenient to The Rangers Football Club that Whyte’s legal action prevents them from publishing the report. Given that it’s been rumoured for some weeks that the Letter Before Claim was in the pipeline, isn’t it curious that it arrives the very day before the conclusion of the internal investigation is announced.

  21. weeminger @ 09:15,

I’m not sure it’s that curious, if you look at the Whyte Knight’s MO he is often a day late and a $ short. Will read the piece later though.

Very odd but never unpredictable that Walter is to be Chairman.

He has admitted he does not have the business experience or desire to take a senior position in the SevCo Board.

    So why?

    Season ticket sales!

    But what convinced him//?

Well either he had no option, it was himself or the double*

Or he was offered a huge amount of Cash to sell-oot.

I’d go for the former. Either way it’s not a good sign for the future at Ibrox.
