Champions!

1808

Congratulations to Ronny Deila, his players and supporting cast on becoming Scottish champions, season 2014-15.  The man from Norway has got his team playing flowing, attractive, football, he has improved players throughout the squad, and should be delighted with the shape of the club at the moment.

Congratulations too to the Celtic fans, who recognised the manager and team needed their support, which has been delivered solidly throughout the campaign.

I’m delighted for Aberdeen, who have matched Celtic toe-to-toe against the rest of the league.  It has been a stunning season for a team with comparatively meagre resources.  Motherwell were best of the rest for the last two seasons, but they were miles off the pace, and never reached the consistency of Aberdeen this season.

It’s four in a row for the third time in our history, matching Willie Maley’s team’s achievement in 1908 and Jock’s in 1969.

These are great times to be a Celtic fan, enjoy being champions!

I saw you posting an old Drifters tune earlier.

Here is a repost of a wee story I posted earlier while hanging about the wrong thread like an eejit!

    ———————————————————————————————————————

    A wee Story.

Sometime in the 1980′s my office did some legal work for a funny wee looking guy whose name was Robert I think.

If he wasn’t called Robert then he was called Frank, but I am pretty sure it was Robert and I have no idea what his second name was, though no doubt when I finish this post it will immediately come to mind.

Anyway, this guy Robert was not really someone who I had a lot of dealings with. As I recall he might have had health problems as he walked with a severe limp and seemed to be unwell quite a lot of time.

His business was promoting bands and putting on gigs etc and for a period of time he promoted acts who had been big in the sixties and got them smallish gigs in the 80′s.

He put concerts on in places like The Plaza Ballroom and other joints that don’t exist any more.

At one point, he managed to get some American acts to come to Glasgow which is how I came to have my brief dealings with him.

On this day he came into the office and needed someone – anyone – to sign or notarise a document which confirmed someone’s identity, and to formally witness a contract.

On the day concerned he came into the office with another man. I didn’t know this other guy but what I do recall is that he had an absolutely velvet sounding speaking voice and seemed to constantly wear a beaming big smile.

It was very quickly apparent that no one else was available to witness the contract and so I was pressed into service to witness the contract being signed by our client and one Benjamin Earl Nelson — only Benjamin Earl Nelson signed the document Ben E. King — and I then had to certify that I had seen his passport (in the name Benjamin Earl Nelson) and add a small caveat that Ben E King and Benjamin Earl Nelson were one and the same.

I didn’t really spend much time with the man and only remember the speaking voice and the big smile but he seemed a nice bloke.

If I recall correctly I was offered a free pass or two to go to the gig but I politely declined which I now regret.

God rest him– Ben or Benjamin, King or Earl — or whoever.

There were various editions of The Drifters but Ben E King sang lead vocals on one of their most famous hits.

As everyone throws up Stand By Me I will post another wee tune so this is Ben E King and the Drifters.

Find another way to let off steam instead of insulting your fellow Celtic supporters

I’m not going to rise to the bait and reply to whatever taunt is in your next post as i know that just feeds whatever eats you.

Livibhoy, keep it up mate, like many on here your posts are a highlight. I mainly lurk, but I lurk constantly, and I always enjoy your thoughts. I enjoyed you thoughts about the season book for limited games, I can’t make so many these days either but any way to make it easier must be a good thing. Enjoy Barcelona, I was there for my 40th, a wee while ago now but I loved it, as did glasgowghirl.

Agree 100% mate. The whole casual thing is hideous. Normally they just run after each other, but today looked like many were caught up in it.

Saw three guys getting huckled, not sure where they were from but could well be local guys out to have a pot a celebrate the league win. Murder.

Think Airdire still have that awful Section B group at their games. I imagine that’s what brought the Dunfermiline ‘firm’ to our neck of the woods.

Looking after sister-in-laws wee Yorkie and she ripped her dew claw. Limping about so had to come up with temp fix until vet opens on Tuesday.

    First attempt with bandages failed.

Now on fix two. Babies Celtic sock, tape and a cut-down sandwich bag for waterproofing.

She is now able to walk on. :-)
