Coming of Age Day at Celtic Park

478

Celtic Park was packed with an expectant crowd 11 years ago when Celtic took a two goal lead into the second leg of a Champions League play-off round.  Many of us felt it was to be a sort of Coming of Age.  After our long hard slog throughout the 90s we were champions and ruthlessly swept aside Ajax in the first leg.

After the full time whistle arms were aloft in celebration but only after an incredibly tense 90 minutes which saw the visitors win the game and fail to convert some decent chances.

Four years after our last entry into the Champions League this new Celtic side have a Coming of Age opportunity tonight.  Last season they showed their mettle to overcome a daunting deficit early in the season to win as comfortable champions, with or without penalties applied to opponents for employing more footballers than they could afford.

While the players may reach a new stage in their development tonight is as much about the supporters who have been part of the struggle in recent seasons.  This is your reward for all those hard times when your club paid their bills but had victory snatched away from them by others who were playing to different rules.

Bring your singing voice tonight.

Bummer! Provided though ‘down south’ means somewhere in the UK, you can get Shortbread via the internet.

  2. If Susan Boyle hits a really bum note tonight, will the crowd start chanting ‘SUBOOOO…SUBOOOO’?

That wee joke was an e-mail from THE EXILED TIM a while back.

Thing is,I noticed my PC STATUS icon turning orange-canny have that-checked it right away, and just stopped my laptop from randomly sending it.

Much to everyone’s annoyance,no doubt,as it would have re-sent more of them.

But reading it again, decided to post it.

    Thanks,TET!!!!!!!!!!

  5. I believe that this plethora of new inmates to CQN has come about as a consequence of philvis releasing all his podium chasing minions in one fell swoop.

No more will we see his name atop a new article….

1st goal … Really important. We score they have a mountain to climb.

They score it we have a serious challenge to contend with..

  7. Celtic_First – Thanks hope you and yours are well? down in Sunny Southend-on-Sea couldn’t see anything on Celtic Bars

The trouble with so many new posters is that you could have a hun asking a hun if he’s a hun or even a hun asking a tim if he’s a hun. And you wouldn’t even know it.

  13. Afternoon lads, anyone else totally givin up on working as they cant stop thinking about the game tonight, cmon you bhoys in green!

asonofdan, i used to sit in front of someone in the main stand during the MON era who every so often would scream CMON THE SONS OF DAN!! Was that you?

  14. Good luck to the Celts tonight.

I am in London and cannot make London tonight so it’s TV for me. Very confident ( well pretty confident ) we will make it.

  15. Good luck to Neil and his team tonight! They deserve this. Neil has really improved as a manager, as have the players. This would be a great stepping stone and more experience for them. It’s not as easy as it seems, playing a match you dont need to win, especially where the result is so important, but that again will be great experience for the coaching team and the players. Nerves will be all over the place today, so really hoping for another early goal for us, pleeeaseeeee………….

We might require new posters to send in photographic evidence that they’ve no 666 tattoos on their bodies.

  18. Thoughts for tonight,

I can understand the we are the home team, lets go for it approach.

However,Hborgs have to come at us and if they do i feel we have the ability to pick them off.

Yes,when in control ram home our advantage but this team are comfortable on the ball and quick also.

    Measured approach required bhoys.

  19. love coming on when the hoops are playing theres no atmosphere here in oz before a game.Im coming home in december after more than 50 years away and am looking forward to becoming a part of the celtic family.Am encouraged by our recent habit of scoring early ,needed tonite just to settle nerves and get the crowd really rocking hail hail

Sebo is not football player. He was protegee because of his father former Inter Blava player and longyeared chairman of Wuerth Slovakia.Without this he would end in Div. 3 (upps;)). Under weiss sr. He scored few goals in artmedia or slovan but nothing off slovakia.

Yes lot of arsenal, manu, chelsea or man city fans in sk. A lot people have soft spot for liverpool because of skrtel but they can not be tagged as glory hunter ;) i know also one everton fan and some real barca ac milan. But celtic is respected because of history, fans and Lubo.

    Zbyzsek

TBH never seen Kuciak but Jano is v good keeper and therefore his present status at everton is problematic 4 him and our national team.

Tallybhoy, I am chilled oot (hence the :-) and the thank you). Well, maybe I’m a wee bit aprehensive and excited about tonights game. Its a two hour drive for me to paradise so plenty of time to get myself into a frenzied unchilled state before K.O.

  23. Anywhere in Kitchener-Waterloo Ontario showing the game? I understand that the local CSC is gone.

thanks for trying to help….but…..I’ve been down this csc cul de sac. it USED to exist…..now it only operates on an ad hoc basis at a place called The Electric Club (too long to explain) and tonight that establishment will be as closed as closed can get. It’s useless.

the OLD csc establishment down here was brilliant, but the venue got sold off,and all the tims just dispersed in the fall-out. I used to see loads of Tims here and have good craic but lately….nada.

So….either rank pubs full of rank epl fans at the wind-up or bite the bullet and get skysports and watch in peace and comfort. so….that’s the route i’ve gone.

    HH!

    WANDA:

    Hi! Sylvia. How’d you die?

    SYLVIA:

    I froze to death.

    WANDA:

    How horrible!

    SYLVIA:

It wasn’t so bad. After I quit shaking from

the cold, I began to get warm & sleepy,

and finally died a peaceful death.

    What about you?

    WANDA:

I died of a massive heart attack.

I suspected that my husband was cheating,

so I came home early to catch him in the act.

But instead, I found him all by himself

    in the den watching TV.

    SYLVIA:

    So, what happened?

    WANDA:

I was so sure there was another woman

there somewhere that I started running

all over the house looking. I ran up into

the attic and searched, and down into the

basement. Then I went through every closet

and checked under all the beds. I kept this up

until I had looked everywhere, and finally

I became so exhausted that I just keeled over

with a heart attack and died.

    SYLVIA:

Too bad you didn’t look in the freezer

    —we’d both still be alive.

    “Where’s Noel90?”

I seen him with his brother Joe earlier.

  27. Excited but not unduly anxious about tonight. For a large section of last week’s game Helsingborgs controlled the tempo, pressed high up the pitch and had, our normally robust defence, looking as though they’d never played together.

Despite this period of dominance they never managed to do the most important thing in a football game, put the ball in the pokey.

I predicted just before half time last week that we would win 2-0 even though we had taken a bit of a hiding for about 30 of the previous 45 minutes. Certainly Fraser Foster made some remarkable saves but some of their finishing was poor and I don’t expect there to be a miraculous transformation between then and tonight.

I agree with A Son of Dan that more than most occasions, tonight is a night for support not bemoaning every loose pass or squandered chance.

As Paul67 says, bring your singing voices, enjoy the ride (it may be bumpy at times) but most of all revel in what could be one of those really special nights in Paradise that we so remember from our youth.
