Competing with the crazies

1382

News that Hull City had a £6m bid for Robert Snodgrass accepted took the wind out of my sails this morning.  Snodgrass was one of the outstanding performers for clubs in the bottom half of the English Premier League last season, so it’s easy to understand his ticket price, despite only having a year left on his Norwich City contract.

He is a Celtic fan and has not hidden his desire to play for the club, but Hull City (good grief) are now bidding £6m for players from relegated clubs, after spending £8m on a Spurs squad filler.

This all begs the question, can we afford to compete with Hull City?  Probably, yes, but we can no more afford to splurge £14m on a couple of players than Hull, who a year ago were reporting debts close to £80m.

We’re operating in an environment where indirect competitors for players are spending unsustainable amounts of money, pretty much like Rangers did for 20 years under Sir David Murray.  For a few years after Fergus left, we played the same game as Rangers, running up millions of pounds of losses year after year, before pulling away from the edge, while they kept the pedal to the metal and careered into liquidation.

The decision not to match the Bank of Scotland money flowing into Rangers cost us trophies, and caused a great deal of dispute in the Celtic family, but story ended sweetly.  So, so, sweetly.

The crash may never hit England, but the job for Celtic is to find a way of remaining competitive in the Champions League while matching income to expenditure.

Celtic and the other SPLF clubs need to challenge the SFA on why they are bending the rules to suit one club. Why did Livingstone have to pay a bond but sevco didn’t.

What happens if sevco go under again ? Have these questions not been asked .

If not Celtic and the other clubs are as much to blame as the SFA.

    Let me get this right

The Scottish football Hun vanguard illegally via financial doping cheated Scottish football teams out of 22 trophies which they won at the expense of their main protagonist Glasgow Celtic. It was “unofficially” known to all but said Huns continued until the doping spilled out of Scotland and HMRC put a stop to it and retrospectively may have spiraled up to a billion pounds. Consequently the SFA tried to restart a Phoenix club worried about their income and during this period Celtic board kept mum and subsequently joined the SFA

Red 12 purports to accomplish what exactly!

  5. Aided Bhoy

Celtic only have one vote. If other clubs who are going to lose out because of SFA tolerance do nothing then Celtic can do nothing.

It is possible that other clubs will prefer to lose out than take steps to control TRFC.

    This is Scotland remember.

Prove that SFA did not apply FFP to the detriment of the other SPL clubs in a UEFA qualifying position.

Then the responses the SFA gave Celtic when they asked questions can be examined

What comes next will depend on Celtic.

  8. Auldheid

True Celtic only have one vote.

But surely the Aberdeen, Dundee Utd , Hibs fans etc,etc feel the same way to.

I pay £850 a year for 3 season tickets plus strips blah blah blah. It doesn’t matter if Celtic only have 1 vote if we’ve been cheated and the SFA have been covering it up they owe it to me and the thousands of others who paid there money to make sure the truth comes out.

  9. Aided Bhoy

I hope that feeling is felt by the Supporter of every club in Scotland but they all do not read blogs and msm are not touching it although a couple are nibbling at the edges.

The old rangers were very very naughty indeed and the SFA will state so. How were they to know about rules regulations laws and the illegalities of the new club

Ok so they pay a fine

Or get called out being a naughty bunch of cnuts!

    Agreed.

    Marijuana?

    Some evidence to the contrary.

    Substance abuse[edit]

A clear causal connection between drug use and psychotic spectrum disorders, including schizoaffective disorder, has been difficult to prove. In the specific case of marijuana or cannabis, however, evidence supports a link between earlier onset of psychotic illness and cannabis use.[42] The more often cannabis is used, particularly in early adolescence, the more likely a person is to develop a psychotic illness,[43][44][45] with frequent use being correlated with double the risk of psychosis and schizoaffective disorder.[46] A 2009 Yale review stated th……………………………………

To be honest I didn’t want Celtic to be the only club getting involved in this.

But as it’s getting closer and they are doing the same things spending money they don’t have it’s clear to me no lessons have been learned between them or the SFA .

Personally I will take nothing to do with Scottish football if it’s back to status quo and nothing has changed. By the way I don’t blame Celtic for any of this but they now need to stand up for every decent supporter in Scottish football.

  15. auldheid,

I reckon we all know by now the reincarnation will be in the same league as us next season.

The rules will be bent to insure it. As has every other rule that has been swayed to pacify their hordes.

We only have to see what’s allowed to stagger on our roads to realise, they will be accommodated.

    Sad, but true.

  16. Res12 is about establishing if the SFA applied the rules.

    We already know Rangers lied.

That TRFC are still around is outside Celtic’s control. What is within Celtic’s control is to remove the factors that allowed Rangers to cheat them and other clubs.

That is a national football association whose laxity robbed UK taxpayers of millions and seriously damaged the commercial and sporting integrity of the game they were supposed to protect.

Res12 was never intended to satisfy hatred of Rangers but to protect us from their hatred.

  21. Margaret McGill

Well in face to face conversations that is not the impression we get.

It is like wading through treacle but Celtic have been following the direction we set.

The REAL issue here, and don’t get me started, is that in this God beknighted country we have to tip toe throw the tulips for fear of bruising the orange lilys.

The media know what has been going on the evidence has been supplied in raw form by CF then in more distilled form by the bampots and they refuse to touch it.

Somebody is keeping the lid on things to protect a corrupt enterprise, its not Celtic and I do not trust a society that fears the truth to ever face the truth, yet that is where we are.

With the greatest respect in the world to you it won’t matter a jot.

Rules? Seriously? What rules? All the cheating, tainted leagues and cups stolen will remain embedded in the Zombie history and as soon as the tribute act are in the SPL the season after next all will be forgotten.

It will be as if they were always there.

You,I and the rest of the Celtic support and others in Scotland might say otherwise.

Sky,BBC,STV,BT SPORT et al, and they are flat out on it,it’s Rangers.

It’s time to let the Celtic fans know what has really went on. We don’t need the SMSM now to get the word to the Celtuc support social media is the best thing that’s happened to Celtic for years . It’s time to blow the lid off this scandal.
