Dangers ahead, unimaginable mess and new euphemism

988

I’m still meeting people who haven’t noticed.  Hibernian are on an outstanding run of form, having won their last three games and undefeated in six.  The last reversal they had was at Celtic Park the first weekend in April.  On Sunday we’re playing the team with the best recent form in Scotland; the warning signs are painted in large green font.

They are dangerous up front, Leigh Griffiths has scored four goals more than any Celtic player, including several stunners.

The weight of the world rested on Hibs’ shoulders at last season’s Scottish Cup final, when the stage was set for a century of pain to be wiped away by defeating their greatest rivals.  It was too much.  Now they take the field unburdened and vastly more dangerous than St Mirren, Hearts or Kilmarnock were when they overcame Celtic at Hampden recently.

Odds on Hibs are very generous.

I caught some chat online last night.  “Blackmail”, “extortion”, “imprisonment”, “getting rid of the problem”, “a catastrophe of an intensity that you…. clearly do not appear to understand”, “fraudulent”, “once the genie is out it will have a life of its own”.

What an unimaginable mess.

I think “Been an admirer of your recent work” is bound to become a euphemism in years to come for when something that should never have been said or written slips out.  This is a small glimpse into how the whole thing happened.

Fantastic Q&A with Willie Wallace this morning, thanks to Willie and Winning Captains.  Willie’s recollections of our great times are irresistible.  Reading the book as it came together was a joy.  You’ll love it.

Remember you can start Cup Final weekend by meeting Willie at a book signing at Waterstons’ on Sauchiehall St, tomorrow – 25th May, 46 years on from the day – from 2pm until 4pm.  If you can’t make it you can order a signed copy below.

  2. I can’t understand some posters saying if hibs win the the cup it won’t feel as bad as losing to other clubs….

Just remember the smirks the reincarnated fans of the reincarnated club will have on their faces,

when you go to work on monday…

They have nothing else to hope for than

    seeing us lose.

  3. Remember the days when the MSM questioned the likes of The Maestro and Henke for their perceived lack of ambition in staying in the SPL with Celtic?

As 3 SPL players drop down the divisions it’ll be interesting to see if anyone asks what level of ambition they have.

    Don’t hold your breath.

I can read my e-mails but my ‘write’ page is corrupted. I’m chasing it up and once sorted I will get back to all the guys I owe a response to.

Celtic -125 years old, baptised in charity, confirmed in an enduring charitable ethos, communicated globally as collective hearts beating in a communion of caring for those whose good fortune somehow just went astray.

No matter what others might say… we are a wee bit different; we are more than a football club, and we were so decades before Barcelona borrowed and proclaimed as their own – our accolade.

    Are we all Family?

    I think so.

  8. Fair play to Jon Daly and sevco. Good to see certain aspects of the ‘rangers’ culture can be left behind with the dead club.

This is progress, and it is good.

I hope the move goes well for the guy, and I believe it will.

Sevco claim after investigating themselves, that there are no links between Green and Whyte…… That’ll be that then….

I cannot disagree with most of what you say.

On Seville question, no we would not have added anything to the reputation of our great Club if we had won. However, I was still gutted that we went so far and for the Players only to come away with the Silver Medal. I certainly was not happy for Porto because of their antics.

The Partick game I was not at, was only ten at the time and listened to the game on the Wireless in my Grans. From what I remember listening to and it was forty years Thistle not put in a few tasty tackles. However, I wasn’t there so will need to give way to your interpretation of events that day.

We do not have a God given right to win any League or Trophy. All I want is for us to give of our best and if that is not good enough and the opposition play fairly and were the better Team on the day, then yes fair play to them and I say well done but will never be happy for them or the fact that they beat us.

My good friend CM67 often says to me back in the Pub when we get beat, don’t let them get you down, don’t let them spoil your night. I know he is right but when we get beat I have a face like a wet weekend…I hope I don’t on Sunday.

As I say mate, agree with most of what you say but I’m a bad loser. Tongue firmly in my cheek but you wouldn’t feel the same if it were oldco that beat us in a final and you don’t need to answer that as I say tongue firmly in my cheek.

I hope your Team win on Sunday.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

  13. Parkheadcumsalford@17:32

Your thoughts mirror my own. Defeat is unthinkable on Sunday.

McPake out injured is a big blow to Hibs. As another poster mentioned earlier, Sammi must be a cert to a start now.

  14. Did anyone seriously expect a different outcome from the independent investigation?

  15. A Stor Mo Chroi.

It wouldn’t have bothered me if Hibs win on Sunday. But I would have to go back 50-60 yrs ago to have said that. The Hibs and their supporters are a different lot of supporters now than they were back then. Now they are no better than the rest, they don’t like us, so tit for tat ,I don’t like them.

I’m getting awfy crabbit in my old age, spent 6 hrs in the garden today, so I’m even more crabbit my hands are hurting, how am I going to hold a drink after my shower.
