Derision, hiding, wanting to win the league?

935

I don’t know is that was the worst home performance I’ve seen, but it was up there. We look like a broken team. Dundee were comfortable throughout, limited Celtic to one genuine chance in the game (in the 76th minute), and caused havoc during their regular attacks on Craig Gordon’s goals. Their best chance came from a corner kick (what else), which was sent over by a player who stopped to head the ball from 5 yards.

Charlie Mulgrew is not the most gifted player, he’s not a central midfielder and he’s not game-fit yet, but despite putting in an indifferent shift last night, he never hid.  The juxtaposition between him and others was stark.  We need players with attitude – the captain back on form, Kris Commons fully fit and starting, and others taking their lead.

Confidence is on the floor. Mistakes, backwards passing and long balls forward were all subject to derision, but I think last night was the first time I’ve heard a Celtic substitute being booed onto the field.  All because he doesn’t want to renew a contract for his position as occasionally-used squad player.  The seriousness of the situation is clearly lost on those who want to boo a player taking the field instead of encouraging the guy to help us win a game.  The whole experience got me thinking, how many of us actually want to win this league?

You better believe they want to win it at Pittodrie.  They have focus, form, packed stands and patience.  They also enjoy the ‘Leicester City effect’ – everyone not competing directly with them wants them to win.  The rest of Scottish football is desperate for us to tear ourselves apart right now.  We need to circle the wagons, live up to the reputation we like to think we have, and play our role in delivering this title.

You want 10-in-a-row?  Bring me your complaints in May, but for now get your shoulder to the wheel.  This is not our first performance crisis and it won’t be our last, as a collective, we need to be smart in dealing with these situations.

Everyone at Celtic Park (and beyond) knows this is not good enough, and there’s going to need to be big changes in the summer, but we need to get our act together and put the inquest on hold until the end of the season.

BIG PEAT OF ISLAY. You may well be right that Ronny has lost the dressing room but the players should still be professional .The supporters are paying good money to watch them anything less than 100% from the players is cheating the supporters. H.H.

Joe, I am at this stage absolutely certain, Ronny has lost the dressing room. I’m almost certain that he has lost the confidence of the board. I know for a fact that he has lost the confidence of the fans.

    =================================================================================

    Hang on a minute,pal.

Do you have U.N. figures to back up your ” fact? ”

If not Ernie et al. will be on your case.

  4. Ronny’s a good guy. Capable, too.

By inclination, a conciliator and facilitator.

He strikes me as a football purist.

If I’m right, then he’d be especially good as a trusted assistant, rather than a leader. At least when managing in our league, with its own peculiar talent pool and dominant cultural mores.

I also have a theory that he’s over-analytical. Reflective and perhaps a bit stubborn, too. Which will be deeply problematic for him, should he surmise that many of his starting assumptions were misconceived, or that his original aims can no longer be achieved (for whatever reason).

Great managers tend to have a fairly simple football philosophy. Which is good news for the players they manage: they easily understand their coach and mentor and would have a fairly simple set of values to learn and instructions to follow.

Take GMS and SA: their first few games for us were impressive.

A few months later, they’re being played out of position and frequently seem to be ineffectual: is this because they’re not so good in the new roles, or because their instructions now stifle the talent they were freer to express in their previous roles?

Meanwhile, their coach is stockpiling equally talented players for the very roles they’re trying hard to master …

So we have white Europeans in places like Australia (nothing personal) making judgements on refugees? I wonder how the aboriginal people in places like Australia feel about colonisation.

Sure, they probably feel honoured to have our higher moral standards and diseases and quaint customs thrust upon their society.

I think that the move by The Native American Council to offer ‘…a partial amnesty to 220 million undocumented whites ‘ in the United States is very generous.

Isn’t it strange that some feel that their culture only brings progress and prosperity to the world and yet they forget some of the realities.

    ===============================================================================

How did the aboriginal Scots , the Picts , feel about their colonisation by the Irish Scotii ?

They even imposed the name Scotland on us.

Maybe the Picts felt “honoured to have their higher moral standards and diseases and quaint customs thrust upon their society. ” by the Irish Scotii.

  10. Re possible managerial change a pivotal moment may be Monday March 28th no game for 2 weeks and several players going away on international duty.

I hope it doesn`t happen because if it does it means there`s been another couple of poor results/performances. Then that`s it until the end of the season.

  13. The biggest problem Ronny has in my view, is that he is trying to keep everyone happy, by changing the lineups, every match and I think this is were it all breaks down.Ronny pick which players you trust, play them for a few weeks and see what happens surely then you should have a good idea, which ones needs to stay, and the others moved on.

  21. Lennon’s Passion certainly isn’t hated on here.

He got me two tickets for Tannadice in December 2014 and I enjoyed his company at the game- we got beat 2-1 due to an ‘honest mistake’.

Even then he wanted Ronny out so unconvinced was he with our manager. We had a wee debate about it that day in Dundee.

Ronny went on to win the league and league cup and only two other ‘honest mistakes’ put him out of two other cups. He is in my opinion about to win the next two trophies – the league and Scottish Cup.

That will be 4 from 6 with referees being involved in the 2 losses.

Europe has been bitterly disappointing, but it usually is (with a few periods of notable exceptions).

When we were naming the tables for CQN Ten we were going to name them after famous Celtic wins in Europe.

Looking at the history books we struggled to get 50 names for the tables and dropped the idea.
