Different tone from Celtic, Ashley’s men

760

It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what was different from last night’s performance to our previous outing against Ross County, and so many this season.  Kris Commons was on from the start, but our tone of play was different, even as Kris limped on the side-lines during the opening minutes.

How that tone was set is worth examining.  Celtic were denied an opportunity to train on Kilmarnock’s new artificial pitch, in a move demonstrating the hosts legendary welcome and sportsmanship, but when Ronny Deila spoke pre-match he made his position clear, “The pitch is great”.

One of my pet hates is hearing a player or manager establish a reason for failure before kick-off.  Record your complaints about the pitch, or even being denied the chance to become accustomed to it, and you’re subliminally setting yourself up for a fall.  It didn’t matter if a pitch is great or not, the manager and players have minutes to convince themselves it’s good enough for them to put on a show.  Nothing got in the way of Celtic’s can-do attitude yesterday.

Kris was phenomenal.  He got a hat-trick at Rugby Park last season and deserved no less this time, only the crossbar, twice, and some fine goalkeeping denied him.  In a team short of goals, his focus on the target is unceasing.  There were important Champions League games when he didn’t make the team under Neil Lennon, and there will be occasions when the game doesn’t suit him, but he’s the required fulcrum against a packed SPFL defence.

We’ve touched on this theme a couple of times but it doesn’t seem to be getting traction.  For two years shareholders now newco Rangers have been advised to step aside, or as now, sell control for £18m, in the best interests of the club.  No deal will be done until the best interests of the controlling shareholders are considered, any approach which doesn’t recognise this is no more than a distraction.

Newco have four directors, two non-execs, who do not work in the business on a daily basis, and two executives, who do.  The latter, chief executive Derek Llambias, and yesterday’s appointment of Barry Leach as financial director, both came from the Sports Direct stable.  They are the men working on fixing the funding gap.  It is inconceivable they will overlook the interests of investors.

On 27th of this month newco will face an SFA disciplinary hearing over an alleged breach of a written agreement not to allow Ashley influence at the club, in place before they appointed two former Sports Direct staff to the board.  I would be very surprised if the Sports Direct owner didn’t have the club’s short-term funding and his long-term security secured prior to that date.

You are not the only one wishing to push this.

An Aberdeen fan contacted me with a draft he had to got to Duncan Fraser at Aberdeen.

Just before that I got an expanding draft from a Celtic supporter who Doncaster had phoned the day after his same club statement that the contact wanted to send to Doncaster.

Both contained valid points that could be made to Doncaster or Celtic.

E mail me at auldheid046@gmail.com and with their permission I’ll give you a copy of both drafts to draw on. I’ll be happy to comment on what you produce.

Did rangers FC Plc vote themselves into the SPL ?

Thinking about it it’s really simple destroy Doncaster’s argument if you stick to the sporting points, same club, why no in SPL, Europe, national cup competition seeding, why make application to play in SFL.

I gave my season ticket up last year, work, family etc commitments but get to games when I can.

Now my wife went into the ticket office on 22nd December to get me a ticket for a match as a Christmas present, all very well and good I hear you say.

Well on opening present on Christmas morning, my ticket is for 10th January 2015 against St Johnstone………

She asked for advice on which ticket to get, wanted to make sure it was a Saturday and this is what was recommended to her!

Is the letter from Duff and Phelps to Iain Blair of the SPL dated 27 July 2012 which is available on the internet to be regarded as genuine?

If so perhaps someone could ask Mr Doncaster to explain why, if it’s the same club, Duff and Phelps’ consent was required to allow players to play in the game against Brechin City on 29th July 2012.

I guess the ad is to highlight the facts.

    What will it achieve?

Well it will certainly give me a bit of satisfaction seeing the one club myth shattered in print.

Funny how I ain’t seen that before.

I guess it will help to articulate how we as Celtic supporters feel as our club aren’t doing it

We gave an earlier draft to The Herald’s lawyers back at the start of December as we had to get an initial reaction from them – or this would have all been a waste of time. They had numerous points to make at the time but we got the go ahead.

On the new, much improved draft which has been the work of four of us, their lawyers came back with one point only.

Do you know what it was?

That we were saying it was a Statement from Celtic Supporters. They tried to get us to add the word ‘some’ before Supporters. This was easily dismissed but the point is what we have is watertight, definite, even conclusive. We can watch our club play on February 1st free from the same club myth or from people thinking we are passively supporting this myth.

We have criticised Celtic for saying nothing publicly about this yet the alternative for us as Celtic supporters would be to say nothing ourselves ahead of our first match against them. We’d be doing exactly what we have criticised Celtic for doing – ie saying nothing.

Doncaster has been vocal over the past week but has added little to back the same club logic. We will I hope strike a blow to his argument and this will be followed up by longer features that will appear on James Forrest’s blog and in CQN Magazine – the text of which will be given to Doncaster to comment on.

As recent posts indicate both Aberdeen and Hearts fans are actively involved in striking down this myth once and for all. As Celtic supporters we have one opportunity to do this.

As for their response, well that is nothing new. They can always complain to ASA.

  15. Evening all, had a quick read back, Doncaster is wriggling like a snake, the only people who will be to hold him to account are the SPFL board who appear disinterested and probably hope it all goes away and the game goes on,Regan said who they are is a matter of opinion,no-one appears willing to pin him down.

Bristol City were not liquidated or made bankrupt.

Middlesborough were not and nor were Leeds.

Bristol came very close but reports I have read suggest they were not liquidated but did change name. The legalities around liquidation have changed since 1982 though.

    Crystal Palace were not liquidated.

So if you can’t tell the difference between admin and liquidation should you be doing the job you are doing?

Thank you mate for taking the time to write and share your reply.

    where is ND wrong

1.he neglects to omit legal entity persona chat is taken from company law and especially law governing incorporation.

-applied in company law its a new club.(no ifs buts maybes)

2.Nimmo Smith was independent,as paid consultants go.those submitting chose to limit submissions, this combined with tightening of parameters meant admitted tax evasion was not looked at.

Why is ND being selctive with his LNS definition? especially as it is easily contradicted by LNS

3.As ceo to the spfl.scots examples only are applicable.ie Gretna and dave murrays rfc.his e.g of leeds and crystal palace dont count as they are admin only and Bristol is an english example.

According to NDs statement there is now no need for budgetary prudence as you can loan; tap and mortgage without paying back.

As usual ND will answer what he thinks he hears.

The irony is if we had independent professionals at the top of our game our administrators would have been highlighting all errors in this shenanigans instead being part of the fraud.

    Hope all is well mate.

    :-)

It is a week before and the press build up will be huge – Old Firm this and that, particular emphasis on the history of the tie involving us and the old Rangers so as to tie us into it. They will hammer home the history aspect and gradually the lie becomes the truth. This is also why they never mention the big L word. With that one the truth hurts.

Also day of the game will be too late. Everyone will be wanting to watch the game so there would be a much smaller impact.

  23. The SPFL Rules (and the SPL Rules that preceded them) draw a distinction between a football club (“Club”) on the one hand, and the company that owns or controls the Club on the other hand. There is no suggestion that the Club is a legal entity or has a legal personality which is different from whatever is the legal entity or person which is the owner and operator of the Club.’

    ———

Without having checked my facts, I was under the impression that the Memorandum and Articles of association of the original Rangers stated that the club and the company were one entity.

If so, why was the club admitted to the SPL with a constitutional document which contradicted SPL Rules?

This question may apply to other members of the SPL as well so it may be a wider issue to be explained.

  24. Sorry for being a repetitively boring old nark but just to say that there is still time to take part in the LAST MAN STANDING 3 competition which kicks off this week in. All you need to do is register your interest by email to cqnpredictor@gmail.com and we’ll then send you full details of payment (the entry fee is £10), the rules and the first set of fixtures.

I’m delighted to say that the total competitors is now a fantastic 71 lads and lassies. A huge prize pot await the winner and equally a huge sum will be winging its way to help Wee Shay.

Everyone who has already expressed an interest should have heard back by now. If you haven’t please email us again or skip the queue by emailing me direct at jobobaldie@yahoo.co.uk ;-)
